Re: Linux Mint and setting up Internet

Network issues are the one area of computing that have always produced an irrational fear in me of changing anything. Which is why, despite having had in front of me for the past few months a Netgear WNDR3700 N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router with its DD_WRT Firmware , I have not yet got round ...

Re: [SOLVED] Menu entry and launcher Properties different

Hi smurphos, Only because the flatpak framework and flathub repo are pre-installed in Mint 18.3 and later, with Software Manager integration so that the Gimp 2.10 flatpak (and many others) can be installed directly from Software Manager. Understood - having looked at the entries in Software Manager ...

Re: Menu entry and launcher Properties different

Hi smurphos, Editing the appropriate desktop file in ~/.local/share/applications to remove the line for en_GB resolved the problem for me. yes - that worked for me too -thanks very much. Will mark this thread as solved. BTW any particular reason for using snap rather than flatpak? No - can't remembe...

Re: Menu entry and launcher Properties different

Hi kyphi, GIMP version 2.8 uses the name "GNU Image Manipulation Program" which is far too long but can be changed to something shorter using the menu editor. GIMP version 2.10 uses the name "GIMP". This is the crux of the problem - the menu editor "Launcher Properties" for GIMP (the 2.8 version) ha...

Re: Nemo Ghost-like double opening

Thanks Pedrot001, I don't know why but using F3 to create/remove dual pane view seemed to solve the problem. There may have been a glitch using the View menu option "Extra Pane". Unfortunately, I can't seem to consistently re-create the problem. There may have been another Nemo Window open - but in ...

[SOLVED] Nemo Ghost-like double opening

I have Nemo set up to open dual panes on activation - but behind this page is another instance of Nemo showing exactly the same information but in the default single pane style. This action does not cause a double entry in the Panel - it's almost like a ghost version of Nemo. I cannot access the sin...

[SOLVED] Menu entry and launcher Properties different

I have a GIMP version in my Menu under "Graphics" labelled "GNU Image Manipulation Program". This is GIMP version 2.10 as opposed to the stock version 2.8 which is also in the Menu Graphics list as "GIMP". I want to change the "GNU Image...." text to "GIMP 2.10" in order to remind me what it is with...

Re: Putting KDE apps into Preferred Applications list

Worked it out eventually: Firstly I had to find out the command to activate Digikam. For this I had to "Show desktop icons..." in System Settings which I had turned off. The a Right-Click on the Digikam icon and into Properties showed command as "digikam -qwindowtitle %c" Then I looked at the Proper...

[SOLVED] Putting KDE apps into Preferred Applications list

Is it possible to put KDE applications into the "Preferred application" listing in the System Settings? If so - how? Specifically I'm trying to get Digikam to act as my preferred application for opening photos (or at least to be on the default list). Strangely - KolourPaint (which is another KDE app...

Re: Recommended Wireless Router

Thanks for the replies - perhaps I should have said I'm in the UK - as it seems the Netgear AC750 R6020 is not available in the UK. A search of eBay UK showed all instances to be from the US. Also just for completeness, I'm running Mint 19.1 Tessa - if this makes any difference.

Recommended Wireless Router

While the Community.Linuxmint.com site has a list of Routers that work perfectly with Mint ( https://community.linuxmint.com/hardware/search ), it's not obvious how old this page is. Several of them are available on Amazon - but before getting one I thought I'd ask this forum for their recommendatio...

Re: Legacy UEFI BIOS problem

Thanks arvy - the link to AdamW's article was very valuable and will require more than a single read through to appreciate all the ramifications. One thing that did appeal was to look at efibootmgr which reported "EFI variables are not supported on this system" which tells me that I probably install...

Legacy UEFI BIOS problem

Having recently switched to Linux Mint 19 from Mageia 6, I have the following problem - not catastrophic but annoying nevertheless. My Gigabyte EUFI DualBIOS has an entry in the Boot list for a EUFI SSD (I'm guessing pointing to where the Mageia 6 distro used to live) and no boot option for the same...
