[SOLVED] Re: Don't sleep while Plex is streaming?

Solved! I finally figured it out. Here's how I did it, in case anyone else wants their main PC to not be on all the time. I needed a combination of Collin Delker's solution (the 2nd of those two links I posted earlier) along with my Plex token to get around the 401 Unauthorized error. I found the Pl...

Re: Don't sleep while Plex is streaming?

There are utilities called " Mouse Jigglers " which simulate constant tiny mouse moves to inhibit sleep / hibernate . Most are for that "other " OS but this one claims to be cross-platform :- https://sourceforge.net/projects/wigglemouse/ It is a clumsy workaround IMO , but it might do just what is ...

Re: Don't sleep while Plex is streaming?

Yes, the server is running Linux Mint.

What you're both suggesting is ways to permanently disable Suspend. That's not what I'm trying to accomplish. I still want the system to Suspend - just not while Plex is streaming something.

How can I have Plex prevent Suspend while streaming?

Re: Don't sleep while Plex is streaming?

Unless I'm missing something, that's not the solution I'm looking for. I'm looking for something that will automatically prevent Suspend, without needing user interaction. The reason for this is that this PC (my Plex server) is in my study, and I stream Plex to my TV in the living room. (If it matte...

Re: Don't sleep while Plex is streaming?

@lsemmens: Plex - didn't find anything relevant in any of the settings pages Power Management - Just lets me set when to turn off the screen, when to suspend the system, and what to do when the power button is pressed @phd21: I'll have a look into the packages you listed. Thanks for the fast replies!

[SOLVED] Don't sleep while Plex is streaming?

I'm running Linux Mint 19.1 with Cinnamon, and I'm still new-ish to it (migrating from Windows). I'm running a Plex server on the computer, and the computer goes into sleep mode (suspend) while watching movies etc. Is there any way to prevent it from sleeping while Plex is actively streaming somethi...

Re: Different wallpaper on each display?

Thanks so much! I kept finding things that talked about KDE or other desktop environments, but this looks promising. I'm going to look into Nitrogen and HydraPaper! :D

EDIT: Haha! It's easy easy as $ sudo apt install nitrogen and then launch the app. :D

Re: Core i3 5th Gen Laptop Powerful Enough to Handle Cinammon Desktop?

You'll be just fine with that system. I've ran Cinnamon on a much crappier system - an Intel Atom dual core with 4GB of DDR2 (I think). Not only did it handle it, it was much smoother than Windows 10, which should be comparable to Win 8. From my experience, all Linux Mint environments are FAR more r...

Re: Different wallpaper on each display?

I guess I didn't specify in the body of the post, but I am talking about the wallpaper picture. Not a screen saver. I'm running Linux Mint 19.1 with Cinnamon ... Cinnamon desktop. ;) And I've tried looking into the desktop settings, searching online, etc. I'm posting here as a last effort before giv...

[SOLVED] Different wallpaper on each display?

I'm running Linux Mint 19.1 with Cinnamon with a dual monitor setup. I've currently got a folder of images that it rotates through, and it shows the same image on each display. Is it possible to rotate through the images and show a different one on each display?

Re: Which User Groups should i assign to let my users do the following tasks

FYI, 'sudo' is what you put in front of any command to ask for root access (the Windows equivalent of having elevated privileges). That's how you edit system files, etc.

I'm interested in how this goes for you, SpookyWatcher. Any updates? Did you try different nVidia driver versions?

Re: [SOLVED] File access for all users on 2nd HDD?

Right, I understand that. And I appreciate it. I thought I had a This-Fixes-EVERYTHING solution, and instead it's a This-Fixes-Most-Things solution. Which is okay, but I also realize that I could run into cases where one process or another creates one or more files that DON'T have the permissions I'...

Re: File access for all users on 2nd HDD?

The issue is in how Linux is handling creation of new files. Have a look: timothy@Desktop:/mnt/data$ ls -lh total 20K drwxrwxrw- 9 timothy users 4.0K Nov 29 12:35 Coopers drwxrwxrw- 7 timothy users 4.0K Feb 13 06:53 Mary drwxrwxrw- 14 timothy users 4.0K Feb 12 07:48 Tim drwxrwxrw- 9 timothy users 4....

Re: File access for all users on 2nd HDD?

I had already created a 'users' group and added the user accounts to it, so I substituted that for 'public'. No dice.
I also tried running the first chmod command recursively, and that didn't do it either.

Oddly enough, users can delete files created by other users - just not edit them.

Re: File access for all users on 2nd HDD?

Okay, I ran it as my account (with -R) and now all accounts have access to all the files. Hooray! However, anything that one account creates is NOT accessible by the others. This brings me back to my original problem: ... now all users can access everything, but if anyone creates a file, it's given ...

Re: File access for all users on 2nd HDD?

Yes, by "admin account" I do mean my user account. When I go into Users and Groups, my Account Type says Administrator. The others are Standard (no sudo privileges). With the verbose flag, I get a lot of "ownership of [[FILE]] retained as timothy:timothy" So everything still works for me - as it alw...
