Re: Interacting with Google Drive
"Online Accounts" isn't installed by default on Linux Mint - at least not on any installs I've used. I tried playing with it, and since it's Ubuntu-specific, I had pretty terrible success with it. I've played with a few options, and I best liked rclone or google-drive-ocamlfuse . rclone is...

Re: [SOLVED] Random freezes on Mint 20.2 XFCE
Solved again. I realized I don't really need the graphics card on this system, so I just removed it and I'm using the board's integrated card. Linux didn't take kindly to that, and gave me exactly the same window problems that I had when I tried upgrading the kernel before. I reinstalled Linux, and ...

Re: Random freezes on Mint 20.2 XFCE
That makes sense. I was expecting a second page with more info than I had found, but oh well. Thanks anyway! It really seems to be an nvidia issue in some way, but I still can't pin it down. I tried switching to the nouveau driver, and it seems (subjectively) slower to boot & login (odd, but meh...

Thanks once again, SMG, for a helpful reply! I'll look into that further and see what I can dig up.

Re: Random freezes on Mint 20.2 XFCE
It just happened again. I wasn't running Geany, but I did have ZeroBrane open. Here's the output of dmesg -T | tail -n 200: [Wed Dec 1 12:16:40 2021] Freezing user space processes ... (elapsed 0.001 seconds) done. [Wed Dec 1 12:16:40 2021] OOM killer disabled. [Wed Dec 1 12:16:40 2021] Freezing rema...

[SOLVED] Re: Random freezes on Mint 20.2 XFCE
Geany is pretty lightweight anyway, especially for the little that I use it. And I initially thought the freeze was related to a Firefox bug, where it doesn't release resources for closed tabs. As a result, I kept an eye on memory consumption, and I always seemed to have 3-4GB free. I've also played...

Re: Random freezes on Mint 20.2 XFCE
I haven't used Geany much at all lately, and hadn't experienced any freezes. Today I had it open in the background, and hadn't done anything much with it (maybe even nothing). I was editing a Libreoffice Calc spreadsheet when the system locked up. I ran "dmesg -T | tail -n 200" as suggeste...

Re: Random freezes on Mint 20.2 XFCE
The issue hasn't happened at all since my last post, and I've also hardly touched Geany since then. I'm beginning to wonder if that's somehow the issue. I'm running 1.36 (the latest in Mint's repo), but the Geany website lists the latest as 1.38. I'll look into upgrading that, although the Geany cha...

Re: Random freezes on Mint 20.2 XFCE
No luck so far in Xorg.0.log or the .old version. I don't see any errors, and there's a few seemingly-irrelevant warnings, like X11 not finding a Cyrillic font path. Just in case, here's the warnings that I don't understand along with their context. See the lines containing (WW) for the actual warni...

Re: Random freezes on Mint 20.2 XFCE
Thanks for the reply, SMG! I won't be back at my work computer until Monday afternoon now. I'll check the logs when I boot up then, and I'll check again next time it freezes. I'll let you know what I find. In the meantime, a driver issue is a good theory. Anyone know of any other logs I can look int...

[SOLVED] Random freezes on Mint 20.2 XFCE
Here's a bizarre issue that I've no idea how to begin diagnosing. I'm running Mint 20.2 XFCE on a desktop system. Update manager reports everything is up to date. Here's my system info: cooper@WorkPC:~$ inxi -Fxxxrz System: Kernel: 5.4.0-89-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 9.3.0 Desktop: Xfc...

Re: Older version of packages in newer Mint
For something as lightweight as reading basic webpages (my interpretation of what you're saying), you could setup a virtual machine in Virtual Box or something similar, and install Linux Mint 17.3 on it - assuming you have an installer for it. There won't be any security updates, I expect, but if al...

Re: DLNA streaming of general internet audio
I hear you - I had all kinds of trouble getting VLC streams to behave properly. Once I figured it out, I scripted what I could and relied on that. I've forgotten quite a bit over time so I likely won't be of much help with the specifics, but I bet others could. Let us know how it goes - I'm sure it'...

Re: DLNA streaming of general internet audio
What software package(s) were you using? I haven't done much of this, but VLC has always been a good option for any audio/video streaming I've wanted to do.

Which software? There may be other possible solutions too, FYI. Anyway, I just searched online for "libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-0" and that led to https://askubuntu.com/questions/1121122/unable-to-locate-package-libgstreamer0-10-dev-on-ubuntu-18-04 which in turn led to https://learnopenc...

Hi nolothot, and welcome to the forums! You've got lots of options open to you. Here's some ideas: RECOVER FILES 1. Boot Windows 2. Download a Linux Mint ISO, burn to disc/USB, boot it 3. Mount your Linux Mint and Windows partitions 4. Backup files to your Windows (accessible) partition REINSTALL LI...

Re: Setting Preferences in Firefox Web App?
I finally figured it out! In case it's useful to anyone else: 1. Right-click the web app link, select the Edit option 2. Copy profile path from the Command line (it's immediately after --profile) 3. Open terminal, run something like this: $ firefox --profile /home/USER_NAME/.local/share/ice/firefox/...

Setting Preferences in Firefox Web App?
I've recently setup Fire Fox as a Web App for accessing a web app I have on my localhost. I don't want FF saving logins, etc but that's the default behavior. With a web app I can't seem to get into the Settings menu of FF to make my usual security tweaks. Any idea how I can do this? I even tried cre...
