Re: Forever is a long time.....

DSL (Dam Small Linux) is only 50mb in size, will run on an i486 processor, and only needs 24mb of memory. I have downloaded it to a usb stick, so that I can use it on my friends' computers. It works very well. Puppy is less than 100mb, and will run on a 166mmx processor with 128mb of memory recommen...

Re: multi-boot 3 linux os and installation issues

Pierre, I have 6 Linux distributions on my computer. I have PCLinuxOS as my initial distribution at sda1 (hd0,0), and I boot from Grub which was installed on the MBR. I went to root in PCLinuxOS, opened Home, back arrowed to /boot, then to /grub. Grub has the "menu.lst". My menu.lst had Linux Mint o...

Re: multi-boot 3 linux os and installation issues

Thanks Fred. I installed Linux Mint to install grub on it's root partition rather than the MBR. I went to my main menu.lst on my first installed Linux OS. I added the following to get it to boot Linux Mint. title Linux Mint 6.0 @ sda7 root (hd0,6) chainloader +1 I selected "Linux Mint 6.0 @ sda7" fr...

Re: multi-boot 3 linux os and installation issues

I'm having the same problem. I installed Linux Mint 6.0 to replace 5.0. I have a copy of the old menu list, and it looks identical to the new menu list, but I can only boot up my other 5 Linux operating systems. I've changed the information in Grub with no success. 6.0 is fun to run on the Live CD, ...

Re: Installed Elyssa but Daryna desktop still displayed

rivenought,
Thanks. It is release 8.04, so is the correct upgrade to Elyssa, it just says Daryna and the applications' panel is the old Daryna style rather than the one on the Elyssa Live CD. I can make those changes.

Installed Elyssa but Daryna desktop still displayed (SOLVED)

I downloaded Elyssa and installed it over my previous installation of Daryna. Unfortunately, I get the Daryna display on my desktop, with Daryna in the task bar and the Daryna display for the programs. I got the Elyssa display when I ran the live CD. Does this mean Elyssa did not install, or do I ha...

I had trouble with both mplayer and totem. I put in a dvd and totem would play but was jerky, and I could not retrieve the dvd for mplayer. I'm used to Kaffeine, so I installed it from the repository, and it works fine. You might try that out.

Thanks Husse. That makes sense. I'm enjoying the opportunity to try different desktops. Maybe this is possible on all Linux distros, and I'm too new to realize that. Anyway, I have just installed KDE core, and it's working great. I am mostly used to the KDE desktop, but am learning about Gnome, and ...

Installing XFCE4 on Cassandra 3.0

I tried the XFCE version of Linux Mint and really liked it on the live cd. But, I had problems when I installed it. I liked XFCE better than Gnome, so wanted to use it as my desktop. Then I was browsing through the Newbie Question area of the forum and ran into the subject "XFCE?" and onto this quot...

I just had the same trouble with juK not playing any songs. I went to "Settings" on the juK toolbar, then to "Output to". It installed with "Output to" aRts. I changed it to GStreamer, then the player and all the songs worked fine. I got used to juK on KDE and liked it.

I did another reinstall of Xfce. I got the same error 18 message from Grub. I followed the steps on fixing grub, and was told there was an error on the Grub installation for the Xfce installation. I tried to fix it, but failed. I'd rather enjoy Cassandra with Gnome for awhile, and perhaps make anoth...

I tried the usr/local/linuxmint/releasenotes, but it did not work. I checked on the live cd and it was usr/share/linunuxmint/releasenotes/index.html. I had installed the wrong nVidia driver, so my screensavers were missing. I installed the correct driver, and they returned. Also, Juk is back, but it will not play. Changes from re-install of Cassandra

I installed Cassandra Xfce and liked it, but could not get the hard install to boot. Three re-installs, went back and had to re-install Cassandra Gnome to get it to boot. Used Gnome for two days, then screensavers starting disappearing. Menu would not open. Firefox worked with the Linux Mint options...

Cassandra Xfce returns Grub error 18 after installation

I installed Cassandra 3.0 to my hard drive and it booted fine and Grub recognized my other Linux Distro. I liked Xfce better, so decided to install it on another partition. It won't allow me to boot at all, and returns with "Grub error 18". This is suppose to have something to do with the bios not r...

Unable to enter keystrokes into Frostwire

I installed Frostwire from Synaptic into Cassandra. It starts up fine and gives an excellent connection. But, I'm unable to enter anything into the title or artist spaces. The cursor continues to blink and nothing is entered. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
John
