Re: RAMBleed RAM Attack; New Way To Steal Data

How many times have you had to feed the cat since it was stolen? Or fed it while it was being stolen or..... sounds like a catastrophe to me.... Have you catalogued this? A catable offence?

Re: RAMBleed RAM Attack; New Way To Steal Data

No! Not 9.25 hours. 74 hours to download. 100 kb means 100 kiloBYTES, not 100 kiloBITS  Thanks for that, I did wonder what I'd forgotten (bytes vs bits). How many times a day do most people switch their laptops off? Desktop once a day (for me) so that is off 5 times (6 day's worth of time ...

Re: RAMBleed RAM Attack; New Way To Steal Data

So at 3 bits a second a 100 kb picture would take 9-1/4 hours to down load? That's if it was actually in memory all the time and actually worth stealing. Yes? No? So how does anyone know when there might be some data worth stealing and what happens if the user turns their computer off part way throu...

Re: Networking 2 computers

A "quick & dirty" method is to install Dukto on both computers. Run it up on both and drag & drop the file on to Dukto and it will be copied on the other computer, ready to print. I'd use a deb package and I presume the 64 bit version for your use? https://www.ubuntuupdates.org/package/getdeb_apps/x...

Re: Why Some Truetype Fonts Render Poorly...

If using LibreOffice and someone sends you a doc or docx with the default Microsoft Office fonts of Calibri or Cambria, there are a couple of free fonts with exactly the same size and shape. This has been necessary when swapping and editing songs with someone running Microsoft Office and where the c...

No wonder the birth rate is going down below the reproduction rate. It's insane and destructive.
But it is the only way to save the planet, reduce the population - vastly.

Re: Good fathers teach their sons DIY skills

A father should teach his son to ...be the captain of your own ship, take care of yourself and your family, solve your own problems. My father was the captain, a Master Mariner. He built us kids a dinghy and we taught ourselves how to be the captain of our own vessels. We also had to find out how t...

Re: Good fathers teach their sons DIY skills

Why teach them? A dead loss. My daughter moved a few hundred miles north taking her welder and lathe with her. So what can I do? Who is going to do any welding for me? Technology? My mother was the technologist, Meccano as a child in the 1920s, strip down her Austin 7 cars in the 1930s. So I was tau...

Re: Does this forum have any..................

My apologies, I honestly had no idea that you where talking about machines to purchase. I'm pretty sure you couldn't get some of our stuff either, and it really sucks. From what I hear you can't even get a daddo blade? No, we're not purchasing anything and I didn't say we were. As for dado blades i...

Wrong country? Not sure what you mean by that?
Are you in New Zealand's South Island? No? Well wrong country to use our machinery.
However you might find one in countries such as Australia (where they really started), Great Britain, Ireland and Canada.

Extra RAM might help, it will take up to 4GB DDR2. I switch the mousepad off on all our laptops, as Iain says, via the Systems Settings menu.

Hello, I've been a Windows user since computers were steam powered :D Before that we hand cranked them... or at least ran punched paper tape to hold the programme and told them how to read the paper by toggling hex-decimal switch code (PDP-8). Having an old Netbook that was basically a doorstop as ...

Re: Are most Linux Distros easily broken? Your advice please.

Having installed numerous computers with Linux Mint over the past few years and watched a Windows user's computer destroy itself, I also ask, what is the OP doing? The Windows 10 one? It finally, after each update caused a problem of one sort or another, got hit by the October bug and she now carrie...

Looks like I put this under tangled mice instead of here. OK, entanglement... "wireless mouses, which can be hijacked from a distance of 250 feet (80-90metres) within 10 seconds."
