Re: They want consumers. What if you aren't?

My cell phone is a flip phone stays turned off until I'm going to use it. I almost never give that number out, even to friends (it wouldn't do them any good since the phone stays turned off). My phone plan is a pay as you go plan. I could have typed that, word-for-word, and it would have been descr...

Re: They want consumers. What if you aren't?

Sadly, when a illicit telemarketer calls a number and gets an answer, your number goes onto a list as a live number that is most likely to get answered. There is a lot of wisdom in your entire post. That line right there may explain something I have been wondering for years; a dozen times a day, I ...

Re: They want consumers. What if you aren't?

If the primary goal all these companies (Google, Facebook, etc.) is to sell you, as a consumer, to interested third parties, what if you aren't? What do you think? Tater, your entire post hits the nail squarely on the head. I am a very poor excuse for a consumer; I only ever buy what I need and wha...

Re: Multi-Quote ???

I don't do it all the time, but I have been known to also use the H orizontal R ule, or "hr"

to put a visual break between sections of a post. It looks like this: It's useful if you need to separate things out for some reason. Thanks for that. I copied it into Clipboard Help & Spell for f...

There's an easy method.
Only if you look down far enough.
Thanks; I am going to screen-shot/print this and tape it up there among ten thousand other things that I can't ever remember.

Thanks !

[Solved] Multi-Quote ???

It may be staring right at me --- a few times I have had need to multi-quote posts in a reply and have not been able to discover the trick needed to accomplish this.

Are multi-quotes possible; and, if so, how ?

Thanks for reading and all help is appreciated.

Re: No Password Required after it Times Out ???

Thanks, guys, for the pictures; it just jumps right out at me now; I don't know why it was so invisible to me earlier, 'cause I sure was straining my eyes out trying to spot it.

As grandma used to say "If it had of been a snake, it would have bit me"

Re: No Password Required after it Times Out ???

1. Go to Settings, Preferences, Screensaver. Set Delay before starting screensaver to Never. 2. Go to Settings, Hardware, Power Management. Set Turn off screen when inactive to Never. THANKS ! I got those instructions accomplished. On mine, there is no "Preferences" anywhere in Settings; but, there...

No Password Required after it Times Out ???

I searched the manual for the answer and could not find it. I have all of our Windows machines set to where they will stay lit up and ready for action indefinitely, staying right on whatever window that I left them and never having to enter a password. Is there anyway I can set Mint up to do the sam...

Re: Virtual Box and Mint Cinnamon?

Thanks so far, everyone; I got my folder sharing all ironed out. There is a minor annoyance I am running into when I switch back and forth between Virtual Box and Windows; when I am in Mint, my Windows Taskbar is visible (just the way I want it). If I have a Windows window side-by-side with a Mint w...

Re: Samba ???

Anyhoo, Why not just go through whatever it was you did here to resolve this issue: Before I began this segment of my quest, I went into both Virtual Box Settings and Mint, and erased/cancelled/done-away-with every single thing that I had done in trying to share folders = cleaned the slate. I got a...

As for the second question, time for you to read the Manual. Explains that and many other topics. Indispensable and unusually good.
Thanks !

Re: Samba ???

Then you need to use the built in Virtual Box Shared Folders item in guest settings.. From what I read, this method is a one-way share = Guest can see/access Host, but not the other way around. I finally figured it out and have three different Windows folders showing on the Mint desktop. Alas, when...

Okay, by using terminal, I was able to open the samba server configuration window. Re: Virtual Box and Mint Cinnamon?

Virtual Box only sees the 40GB virtual disk that you have created at install stage so you are perfectly OK taking the first, erase disk, option. Thanks for that. I am now posting this from within Virtual Box/Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.3 via Firefox. My questions may be just beginning.....; but, I am th...

Re: Virtual Box and Mint Cinnamon?

Okay, I deleted everything and started over from the beginning, this time allocating 40GB for the machine. I am at the point in installing Mint where it gives four choices, the first one being "Erase and Install Linux Mint (Warning: This will erase everything else) Does this mean that it will erase ...

Re: Virtual Box and Mint Cinnamon?

I have run against a bit of a snag. During the install process, in the step that comes after choosing the keyboard layout, there is a message "You need at least disk 10.7 GB space to install Linux Mint. This computer has only 10.7 GB." The message itself is sort of contradictory; it says I need the ...

Re: Virtual Box and Mint Cinnamon?

Thanks to everyone ! I have not yet had time to get Mint installed.
