How to change display screen resolution

Seems Display preferences doesn't give me an option to have a higher screen resolution than 1024x768 even though my display definitely has higher resolution in Windows and OS X. I want a resolution of around 1280x800, so open Terminal (Menu --> Terminal). First check what maximum resolution your mon...

Re: Start the name suggestions for Mint 9 LTS

Isabella would be a nice name for Linux Mint 9, +1 from me.

Mac Mini Sound

It's very well known I think all mac mini versions, including the 2009 version have sound compatibility issues with Ubuntu and probably other distros too. The Mac Mini's audio jack lights red, when I presume there are no drivers installed for sound (this is true when in Windows initially). In Ubuntu...

Re: Linux convert thanks to Minty Freshness

I originally had OS X on my Mac Mini till I got fed up with it and switched to Ubuntu. Everything worked except sound, I installed Linux Mint while being Ubuntu-based and sound worked fine. If I ever intend to install Linux on other PCs of mine, it'll be Linux Mint.

Linux Mint on Mac Mini (Core Solo 1.5GHz)

Just want to add a topic about my experience with Linux Mint on my Mac Mini 1.5GHz Core Solo, its an older Mac Mini but problems in Ubuntu, as I'll note below, still exist in the latest 2009 Mac Mini's. I originally tried Ubuntu on the mini, several times and everything worked except sound - althoug...

Re: Can't transfer files in Pidgin Messenger or Emesene but...

Seems this problem only occurs for those using Windows Live Messenger. My laptop has Ubuntu itself, so I tested a transfer from my Linux Mint desktop to my laptop, and it transferred fine. Anyway, I've just retested in Pidgin Messenger and file transfer works now, for some reason. Still doesn't in E...

Can't transfer files in Pidgin Messenger or Emesene but...

...can in aMSN? I want to transfer a .png to a friend, and when my friend accepted the file it wasn't transferring at all, in Pidgin it continually stated "Waiting for contact to accept" even though he accepted the transfer. I tried in Emesene and same scenario, it just stayed at Status: 0% Avg. Spe...

Re: xrandr won't resize resolution from 1024x768

Just want to say I fixed this. xrandr --output VGA --mode 1280x800 worked, since VGA is my monitor's name, not LVDS. For anybody else having same problem: Changing resolution this way will obviously only work for that session. To set it to work during each login, use command in Startup Applications ...

xrandr won't resize resolution from 1024x768

Hi, I want to resize the screen resolution to 1280x800 - at the moment its on 1024x768 which is too small for me to use Linux Mint on a full time basis. I typed xrandr to see types of resolutions that are available for me - and here's response: Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 768, maximu...

When I download Linux apps which distribution do I choose?

When I want to download applications I'm unsure which distribution download I choose for Linux Mint? Is it Debian/Ubuntu?

Thanks.

Linux Mint installed and works flawlessly on Mac Mini!

I got fed up with the mouse acceleration in OS X so I first tried PCLinuxOS but I really didn't like the graphical interface - a little cheap if you ask me. So I downloaded Linux Mint and did a quick search on the forum to see if others had any problems using Linux Mint with the Mac Mini. As Linux M...
