Re: Mint 19.1 Thunderbird won't accept master password [solved]

I solved my problem. Went back to the T-B support site and finally found an answer: It was the pkcs11.txt file from Windows, which had the wrong paths including \ instead of /. All I did was rename it so T-B would not see it, and presto, all was OK! It even still had my old master PW. The T-B suppor...

Mint 19.1 Thunderbird won't accept master password [solved]

Running Linux Mint 19.1, Thunderbird works OK but in Preferences > Security it won't let me enter a master password. After entering the MPW twice, it gives the error message "Unable to change Master Password." Figuring this was a T-Bird issue, I first tried the T-Bird support site, but was unable to...

smurphos, reboot after update to 4.0.10 does appear to have fixed the T-B freeze issue. Thanks.

Re: Thunderbird freezes the PC when sending mail

smurphos, maybe it is fixed after reboot. No freeze-ups lately. I'll try it a few more days and if still OK will put solved in the subject. Thanks.

Re: Thunderbird freezes the PC when sending mail

Hi kc1di, I hope I did this correctly. I am not able to get the output directly after a lockup, as it totally freezes, requiring a reboot. I figure you knew that. Thanks for your wisdom. kc1di, Not sure what you mean by the output of inxi -Fxzx? I found a file inxi, but it's big. Please let me know and I'll post it. Thanks, Rod

Thunderbird freezes the PC when sending mail [SOLVED]

Running Mint 19.1 on a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series laptop, Intel Core i7 (8 gen). TB is 60.6.1 (64-bit) and is pop3/smtp. OS runs off a 500 GB Samsung (M.2) EVO SSD (very very fast). For several days, all went well. Then it started totally locking up after sending mail; the only thing I can do is p...

Re: Mint won't let me use the HDD partition I made

AndyMH, Thanks, maybe that was it. Yes it was NTFS. W10 was damaged, and I just repaired it with a CZ image. So I went to the partition and was able to at least rename (before it denied me even that). Not familiar with W10 fast boot (it does boot very slow) so I need to learn about that. When I get ...

Mint won't let me use the HDD partition I made

Must get taxes done. Mint Insanity. Trying to switch from Windows to Mint but Mint's INSANE permissions regime has me wondering if it's ready for PRIME TIME. New Dell W10 laptop w/1TB WD HDD. Installed 500GB SSD and then put Mint 19.1 on that. Planned to use the 1TB HDD as working storage, so made a...

[solved] Re: AMD Radeon 530 Graphics problematic with Mint Cinnamonn 19.1?

THANKS for the Radeon info. It helped me avoid nomodeset, etc. Here is what worked: After doing my research, went to Costco, purchased Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series, model 5570, on sale for $579 (no tax here in Alaska; sale may end today or tomorrow). Does not have high end graphics like Nvidia/Radeo...

Re: Help! Mint 19.1 Cinnamon black screen of death!

mrmajik45 and deepakdeshp, Thanks for the info. I'm planing to again try to install the Nvidia driver and boot to command line, where I plan to fix the driver so X can use it. But because I know nothing about how Cinnamon manages drivers, I first need to know (1) What file to edit, and what edits do...

Re: Help! Mint 19.1 Cinnamon black screen of death!

Thanks for the info. I suspect that my problem is Nvidia's "Optimus" laptop technology, which switches to the i7's on-chip GPU when GPU load is light, to save power. Nice idea but is complex. What I may need to do is find a way to disable Optimus since the Nvidiua's Linux driver apparently doesn't s...

Re: Help! Mint 19.1 Cinnamon black screen of death!

Thanks I checked the Nvidia links. Did not do the command stuff because it looks like 19.1 Driver Manager may be installing the correct driver, but there is some configuration issue that is causing run level 5 (X, the Desktop) to lock up. The fix must be done in Level 2 or 3, but Mint boots to X. I ...

WHAT FILE HAS THE MINT DEFAULT RUN LEVEL?

I need to know how to temporarily change booting from X to run level 3 (CLI), to fix a driver issue. History: Currently must boot in software rendering mode. [solved] AMD Radeon 530 Graphics problematic with Mint Cinnamonn 19.1?

To date, I can't get my ASUS K53SD, which has Nvidia GeForce 610M graphics, to work properly with Mint Cinnamon 19.1. If I can't solve this issue, I plan to buy a new laptop. Using Google, it looks like Mint has problems with a variety of graphics hardware. The last thing I want to is buy an expensi...

Help! Mint 19.1 Cinnamon black screen of death!

My ASUS K53SD will only boot in software rendering mode (dual W7 + Mint): From boot options menu, I have to select "advanced options for Linux Mint" and then, in the next menu, select "Recovery mode." When it gets to the recovery menu I select "resume normal boot" then "OK". This gets me to the logi...

Having same endless login loop problem with 19.1 (wants "mint" username + "enter" pw endlessly). ASUS X53SD, i7 quad core, NVIDIA graphics, runs W7 fine. Install new 1TB HDD, 19.1 on USB (verified USB is OK, made with Rufus, works on other laptop). HISTORY: Previously 19.0 dual boot with W7 ran fine...

Re: Scrollbars smaller and smaller

HELP! Mint 19.1 won't let me edit those files and it has no way that I can see to open as administrator. In properties, it says "you are not the owner so you can't change the permissions."

So do I go blind using Mint's tiny razor thin scroll bars? Or do I need to go back to Windows? I hope not
