Re: 100MB supposed to be 1GB, confused?!?

One last comment, I was trying to get 1 line in particular working and I was in the basement just running my hand along the run to check for any damage, dents, or kinks and my method is I leave a few feet coiled up in places just in case I need a few extra on either end. Nothing “tight”, just a ligh...

Re: 100MB supposed to be 1GB, confused?!?

Well one thing I’m suspecting is the use of CCA vs solid core cabling. In general the CCA seems to work but may be giving me inconsistent results, maybe cheaping out on the product is biting me in the butt... Here’s a theory, using CCA I’ve probably bent the cable in some way that possibly dinked on...

Re: 100MB supposed to be 1GB, confused?!?

Ok, but why would the current config work on one jack/cat6 run at 1Gb and another jack/run run at 100 Mb using the same laptop? You're suggesting that the laptop is somehow up and down grading when I switch hardline connections? Wouldn't that mena it's somehow detecting ??? that is causing the downg...

Re: 100MB supposed to be 1GB, confused?!?

Thanks for the check on terminology, will do. Here is an example: I took one laptop and tested at 1 Gb, moved the cable to the other jack and same machine tested at the slower speed. Same machine, same cable different jack and run. here are the results on a different jack/run, again slower but doubl...

100MB supposed to be 1GB, confused?!?

Howdy, I’m at a bit of a wits end here, I have 20+ Cat6 runs on my 1GB network that I’ve built in the past year and certain runs I get roughly the following. I’m using iperf3 in a Docker container on my Synology as the server and run the client on a Linux Mint laptop testing all of the runs: Connect...

Re: Saving TimeShift to a USB Drive

As a newbie to Linux, I'm willing to back up my files to my NTFS drive, and timeshift to a USB stick, but how big should the USB flash drive be? What size, 32 GB, 64 GB 256? How big is enough? Thanks, Katherine "Maghdalena" Logan My setup has my "Documents and other Content" sync'd using my NAS Syn...

When can I remove old kernel versions?

Hello,

Fairly new to Linux and I have a laptop running latest version of Mint and the latest v5 kernel, but looking at the kernal tool there are like 10 versions of 4.x and various 5.x versions still listed as "installed".

At what point should I remove older versions?

Re: Video Codecs

This kind of does what I'm looking for, but doesn't support NAS, only local folders. I tried to mount a NAS location and it didn't work.

Video Codecs

Is there a plug-in, add-in, extension, etc. that allows me to easily browse the video codec? Ideally another column in the file manager.

Wireless Working earlier today, now not

I have a Dell Latitude E7240 Running Mint 19.2 Kernel 5 and everything was fine. I Was using my laptop earlier today and now later tonight the wireless will not work. The toggle in the panel dropdown I can turn on, but when I go into Network settings it says "WiFi Not available" but allows me to tog...

Re: what mail client do you prefer

I've been trying to use Evolution for several weeks now and a few items to note: - Despite the fact of using iPhone for shared family calendars (can't get away from this), I found it MUCH easier to link the calendars via Google Calendar, than to try and do individually in Evolution directly to iClou...

Re: Saving TimeShift to a USB Drive

On my daily driver laptop I have Timeshift going to a second HDD that I added into the DVD bay. This backs up the critical system files. for my "data" I run the Backup tool to my Synology NAS. That basically covers the bases as much as I really need. I have other, older laptops laying around the hou...

Kernel 5 vs 4, Linux Mint 19.2

Hello, I've been using Linux Mint since the beginning of 2019 (noob to Linux in general) and I have a CPU and memory monitor on a panel across the top of my screen and after a while I can get a general sense of what my system looks like during normal, daily work. Spikes, peaks, what apps pressure th...

Re: what mail client do you prefer

After about a week of experimentation, I've landed with Evolution but still have issues with iCloud calendars via URL and regardless, on iOS back to GMail and iCloud for other capabilities. Here is another monkey wrench: we have a family account with ~5 iPhones and everyone else uses iCloud shared c...

LAN Speeds

I'm at wits end. I have a new GB LAN where I ran Cat6 pretty much everywhere, a new Router (Netgear X10 R9000), 2x24 port 1GB switches, Synology NAS DS216+ and a few other devices. FIOS GB Internet service. But at the very basic level, I've been running tests inside the house as well as to the Inter...

Re: what mail client do you prefer

That's pretty much what I do through GMail for free. As I said above, not really keen on Google reading all my stuff, so I'm researching options. I also run my domains through Google Domains, cheap and easy to setup and manage. So from a "domain management" I would leave it there for now, but was lo...
