Re: screen lock is a pain

Can Clem please take notice of this security "through obscurity" feature for the next LinuxMint10? I think there is a higher risk in a drive-by infection because of" Adobe Flash player" is in the Firefox Browser than someone in your office or home hijacking your keyboard. Also ha...

Re: boot loader

The installer only did what you told it to do. It doesn't make much sense to get mad at the gun after you shoot yourself in the foot with it. Pay better attention next time. Try reinstalling Mint but this time put GRUB where it's suppose to be. If that doesn't work you'll need a Windows install or ...

Re: does Mint come with a partition editor?

If you already have Mint installed, you need to go to Package Manager and install Gparted. In Mint 8, due to space restrictions on the CD, Gparted is not installed by default. It is, however, on the live CD as part of the installer so you can boot from the CD and use Gparted from the Live CD deskto...

Re: blank screen

I also have this problem on a machine with a gforce 4 ti 4200, and the Nvidia proprietary driver that ships with restricted Hardware&Drivers. In my situation it was 20 minutes. terminal: xset q #shows 1200 seconds instead of 600 so it makes sence. I'll try the solution posted by feelfreak. I als...

Re: Mouse does not work properly in VMWare WinXP guest

The problem right now is Virtualmachine and not host-OS related as I was thinking before. Sorry LinuxMint ;-) I'll do some more testing... Maybe its the automated installer of Windows. !!!POSSIBLE FIX!!! Pressing CTRL-ALT-DELETE inside the bad/not responding machine seems to fix it. Every time I st...

Re: Mouse does not work properly in VMWare WinXP guest

It even works on a not updated LinuxMint8 main, and a remastersysed LinuxMint8 from a week ago... don't understand anymore. Did several re-installs of Mint and Ubuntu and reboot between the two and noticed one was working and they other doesn't. Have done more than 10 re-installs, and 3 times a gues...

Re: Mouse does not work properly in VMWare WinXP guest

I will try the 64 bit release tonight as host-OS and keep this post updated. It works great in the x64 release of LinuxMint 8! But what about the main/i386 edition? Ubuntu 9.10 i386 is working like I mentioned before... I need to have the 32 bit version for compatibility. so 64 is no option. Maybe ...

Re: Mouse does not work properly in VMWare WinXP guest

I use VMPlayer 3 on 64 bit Linux Mint 8. I run XP, Ubuntu 8.10 (and 9.10), xp64 all a guests. The only time I have a mouse problem is when it is held by the guest. CTRL-Alt will always clear it up (if the guest gets the click instead of the host) CTRL-G does the other way around. This will work whe...

Admin / Moderator can this thread be moved to "Software & Applications" section?

Although I'm not the creator of this post don't know if I can request something like that.

Re: Mouse does not work properly in VMWare WinXP guest

I will try one more clean LinuxMint8 install this time with sudo apt-get upgrade && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade for new kernel and other updates. Than install build-essential and linux-headers-`uname -r` and than the vmware installer... It didn't work, it looks like a GTK bug from the older v...

Re: Mouse does not work properly in VMWare WinXP guest

It must be a BUG!!! I have the same problem and I'm using LinuxMint8 i386 as a host-OS, and VMwareplayer 3 and Windows XP sp3 as a guest-OS! It is very annoying and as soon as vmwaretools gets installed to get things more workable it gets totally unworkable. Mouse clicks won't get through the virtua...

Re: Complete Mint Backup - Remastersys encrypted homedir

Remastersys works with LinuxMint8 except for encrypted homedir install. Ubiquity gives an error and installation fails. The following link explaines how I made the livecd. http://geekconnection.org/remastersys/forums/index.php?topic=482.0 I remember that LinuxMint 7 came without encrypted homedir fu...

Re: Apple Trailers - a solution

Almost all clips AND trailers work for me in LM8. I say 'almost' because' the one walterav linked won't play. Otherwise all do work fine. Anything on my system I can report that may help you guys :?: Oops. My mistake. I had played the clips rather than the trailer. The trailers do not work in fact....

Re: Apple Trailers - a solution

using 32bit Mint8 here and tested that trailer in Medium and 1080 settings and Mplayer played them. The volume was very low though. Just curious, did you click the 6 clips from the "clip" category or the 6 clips "trailer" category? The trailer category just gives as buffering st...
