Re: Installing on an SSD

Any enlightenment. I didn't see the BX500 either, but if it works, sweet!l But more than a little confused here. It works, presumably because Crucial is a branch of Micron. I still prefer the Barracuda 120 SSD. Software is made for Linux and it works good. The TRIM once a week in 10 seconds is very...

Re: Installing on an SSD

If you want a Crucial the MX500 good and so is the BX500. For software you can use Micron's Storage Executive because there's a GUI version and a Command line version for Linux. Micron's version works good with either of those, If you did decide on Crucial, I can provide a bit of help installing th...

Re: Installing on an SSD

I hope I'm not "hijacking a post" I think you are. but the moderators will decide that, not me. Perhaps you should read the forum rules. Sorry about that. I'll do better next time. :( I'll recheck the forum rules. On the upside, this thread answered my questions as to what and how, and any SSD shou...

Re: Installing on an SSD

I don't know if this is an answer or not, but I thought that Crucial's (and Samsungs, and most SSD manufacturer's managing software for just for Windows and Mac. Is this true or is there something for Linux? I ask because I'm wobbling between Samsung (if I can find a good price at Amazon for 2 TB) a...

Re: Confused about installing Seamonkey instructions

Thanks. Looks good then. I know I wasn't getting getting errors in my last update, so I suspected it was cleared up. Thanks to you and the others for all the help. Then I'll mark this as solved. A very happy camper here. Good luck with the KIngston. Let me know how it works out. :) Have a great day!...

Re: Confused about installing Seamonkey instructions

OK. I think I got it. I ran it in terminal and found the repeat so took out the last command and got the warning like you said, then ran apt update and this is what I got: maghdalena@maghdalena-VirtualBox:~$ xed admin:///etc/apt/sources.list ** (xed:5119): WARNING **: 23:00:16.457: The specified loc...

Re: Confused about installing Seamonkey instructions

OK, newbie here, but when you say run "xed admin:///etc/apt/sources.list", does that mean run the file or put that in Terminal or what? And how do you find it, through the search in the menu? Just so I'm clear here. :) Thanks so much for your patience. The erasing the bottom line is pretty clear, th...

Re: Confused about installing Seamonkey instructions

OK. I found it. It's listed that way in Mate too. Under the Internet category. I am so happy. I guess it took a little time or I had to restart Mint in the VM. That means that I can use Linux Mint instead of MX linux. I just know Mint more than MX, though both are good. What is that part about etc/a...

So I put the commands: $ echo -e "deb http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/ubuntuzilla/mozilla/apt all main" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list > /dev/null sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com B7B9C16F2667CA5C sudo apt update $ sudo apt-get install seamonkey-mozilla-bui...

Re: Confused about installing Seamonkey instructions

I copied and pasted the commands into Terminal and it was gone. It couldn't find it at all. Here's a copy of what I got from Terminal: maghdalena@maghdalena-VirtualBox:~$ echo -e "deb http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/ubuntuzilla/mozilla/apt all main" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list > /de...

Re: Confused about installing Seamonkey instructions

Yeah, I vaguely remembered that the prompt was the "$" sign. Thanks, I'll try that. Cool! Also, thanks to all who responded. I'll give that a shot. I'll try it tomorrow, as it's getting a little late for me. :) Assuming I can get it in the VM (for practice), then I'll know what to do when I get the ...

Confused about installing Seamonkey instructions(Solved)

Can anyone help me? I'm fairly new to Linux, and I'm planning to move to Linux Mint (19.3). I have it right now as a guest in Virtual Box with Windows 7 as host. I can figure out most of the directions, but the first line I'm confused on the URL; https://linuxg.net/how-to-install-seamonkey-2-49-4-on...

Re: Saving TimeShift to a USB Drive

I was only planning on 3 snapshots and 2 boot, before replacing with a newer one. But if I only need 2 snapshots, OK. That's one of each, 1 monthly and 1 boot, right? ;) And I was familiar with the formatting tools, like USB Formatter, so that's good to know-64-128 GB max. 128 GB should allow for "w...

Re: Saving TimeShift to a USB Drive

I plan to keep 5 boot and 5 daily snapshots if that helps. So far in my VM, the average for my daily snapshots is 372,000-400,000 file that has changed. I was thinking around 32-64 GB. Where is the timeshift folder again? I'm guessing it's one of the hidden folders, but in which folder, the /Home or...

Re: Saving TimeShift to a USB Drive

As a newbie to Linux, I'm willing to back up my files to my NTFS drive, and timeshift to a USB stick, but how big should the USB flash drive be? What size, 32 GB, 64 GB 256? How big is enough?

Thanks,

Re: Putting AppImagtes in Menu in XFCE

OK I tried the Create Launcher and filled it out, and the Launcher is on the Desktop, but there's no offer to integrate with the menu. Sigh. I'm working in Mate, as that seems to be the DE I'm most comfortable with rather than XFCE, which I was originally planning to go with when installing it on my...

Re: Putting AppImagtes in Menu in XFCE

Thanks. The icon size is just what I need, so thanks. I appreciate all the great replies. I've been using Linux Mint XFCE in a VM, but I"ve been between XFCE and Mate, but I kind of like Mate better. (Waiting for the holidays to get a second hard drive to put Linux on. and noting that it's better no...

OK. What size does the AppImage icon need to be. Not real clear about that, otherwise, I'm good. ;)

(Solved) Putting AppImagtes in Menu in XFCE

I have a couple of AppImages that I want to put in the XFCE menu. However, I would prefer to do it manually, so they can continue working. Can someone walk me through the steps to getting a launcher for them? Also, for the launcher icons, what is the appropriate size for the icons. I"d prefer to do ...
