Re: No DHCP Offers Received.

Interesting. I had not even thought something like that could be the reason. I admit I am ignorant of the technology behind these things. This is DSL. However, I don't see a correlation between slowdown/inability to reconnect and particular time of day. I can say that while my home network recognize...

No DHCP Offers Received.

I have been hounded by a scourge for...I guess ever. My wireless experience with linux (many distros, not just mint) has consistently been one of the poorest I have had. But even when I've thought that I've gotten things working just right, I find out that I really don't know anything and am powerle...

Re: mint 9 update

If it had broken your connectivity, the easy fix would have been simply to remove the DNS server you had just added, and change back the setting "Method" for getting addresses.

Such a strange issue...

Re: mint 9 update

I am also having this problem. I can't fix it, but from looking up a few things for ubuntu 10.04, it seems to be a network issue...or something like that. Which doesn't make a whole lot of sense since I can surf other things online fine. Try this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9313657&p...

Re: Disabling ipv6

ok, I had missed that post.

It seems a bit risky (that is, going for the wireless). I don't think I am going to risk losing wireless completely just for the luxury of a few gained seconds not looking for ipv6 stuff.

Thanks for the help, though!

Re: Disabling ipv6

Thanks for the links. I'm just wondering...from the thread for 2.6.30, some commenters noted that restricted drivers get broken/will not carry over...I have a restricted driver for my wireless adapter (b43 for broadcom 4311) and one also for my video card (nvidia 180 for GeForce 8400M GS)...will it ...

Re: Disabling ipv6

bad_listing net-pf-10 (or, ipv6, or both) does nothing, because ipv6 is built into the kernel and is not a module.

Should I install an older kernel so the bad_list will be effective?

Disabling ipv6

In Gloria, I've been experiencing a weird issue with connecting to the internet. Sometimes, it'll go fine. But other times, there will be a lag in connecting to the internet -- from what I can tell, mint is looking for an ipv6 router, and it'll take it's sweet time not finding any and then timeout.....

Re: The Myth of "Working Out of the Box"

While I agree with this topic, I would point out that all the OSes aren't on the same grounds. Most people don't install Windows because they don't have to. Most people don't install Mac OS because they don't have to. The computers on the market come with these on there. But if one wants to try linu...

Is there a way I can rebuild /var/cache/apt/archives for Apt

I want to use AptonCD but my /var/cache/apt/archives folder has a blank lock file, and a folder called partial that's empty.

knowing me...I probably did that...I don't know when, but the commands seem REALLY familiar.

Is there a way to force apt to rebuild the archives, or would that just cause more problems that it is worth?

What am I doing wrong with AptOnCD?

my apt on CD iso is NOT recognizing anywhere near all of my programs I've installed...so the iso ends up around 4.3 MB.

How can I get all of my packages in the cache?

eventually, will the new mintArtwork be released as its own packages (so that I can get the new art without having to do a fresh install?)

because I'm liking the celena upgrade so far...but...I still have all the cassandra art.

Now, I come from gentoo...so this REALLY seemed similar to gentoo's Portage system with ebuilds...the thing with that though is that you need something called make.conf that informs portage of what your architecture is and what use flags you want programs to be compiled with (i.e., do you want ogg s...

I really don't know what the problem is...now editing xorg.conf or using gsynaptics, qsynaptics, or ksynaptics does nothing.

OK, after having messed up my xorg.conf (it seems it resets every time you get change drivers via envy or restricted package manager,) and having to get support again, I realized that what actually fixed it was actually putting these lines in: Option "LeftEdge" "120" Option "...

well, I remember specifically NOT using the graphical Windows Wireless Drivers dealie. But what I did was I first sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist And then I added a line blacklist bcm43xx then I restarted the entire machine. That was a necessary step. Then I had to actually uninstall and reinsta...

ah, completely uninstalling it works.

unfortunately, I need support for chinese characters sometimes and that's what scim allows me to do :/ But when I reinstall scim and scim-gtk2-immodule, I get that error again, so that must be the cause.
