Re: How to rename Trash on Linux 19.3?

if you then click on that Trash Icon, then you should find yourself, in an Folder that's called "Rubbish Bin". - - where you can now click on another Icon, to 'Empty the Rubbish'. :? Using Mint 19.3 Tricia xfce, my rubbish bin is called 'Wastebasket' and I've changed nothing. Maybe its determined b...

Re: Running an OS from a flash drive?

My experience with linux run on exterior media is that it is faster using a 32GB class 10 SDHC in a USB memory card reader. I have run a server like this for 5 years without problem and always found USB memory sticks far too slow. I never bought expensive (fast?) sticks thought. Similar experiences ...

Re: Install Stellarium 0.11

You mentioned a deb installation. Have you tried the Mint Software Manager version? Admittedly I have Cinnamon not XFCE but it works well for me. Thanks, yes I tried the software manager version first, which happens to be v0.18 but the old netbook graphics can only cope with v0.11 - I tried all oth...

Re: Install Stellarium 0.11

Thanks Hoser Bob, stellarium fails to run even with the v0.18 data package installed. Running from terminal gives errors, that .stellarium/config.ini does not exist and failed to locate data/default_config.ini ( which exists in usr/stellarium). When installed on other system (linux lite), these file...

Install Stellarium 0.11

Currently testing Mint 19.2 32bit xfce on ASUS 901SD netbook. I have a deb file for Stellarium 0.11 which runs ok with another distro on this netbook, it is the only version compatible with the video hardware/driver which has no update. When I try to install the deb file on Mint, it appears to insta...

Re: Replacing Ubuntu with Linux mint

Only a guess but is the Dell 32bit or 64bit and is the Mint version the correct one. I had a similar problem with another distro when I inadvertently tried to install a 64bit system to a 32bit PC. There was no warning, just a flashing cursor. I don't know what happens when trying to install the wron...

Re: Android and Linux

OK Peter, your 10.1" eeepc is larger than the 701SD (which I have used on a bus) but I found the SSD was too slow, that's why I use a class 10 SDHC. RAM is 1GB and Linux Lite runs fast and keeps Windows away. The SSD is of course used for data. I also had an Eeepc 901 which proved to be too heavy so...

Re: Android and Linux

@Perter Linu, You may not agree but have you ever looked at the old EeePc 701SD for portable choice? Its a device which is very much overlooked and is very cheap if you can find one in good condition. I use one as a travelling PC, not with the useless original linux OS (which was never suitable IMHO...

Re: Downgrade XFCE from 19.3 to 19.2

Karl, Thanks, I have tried all the window manager options as you suggested but non cure the problem. One option messed up the workspace switcher but was easily cured by removing and adding again. I think I will live with it for a while now (I want to keep Mint) but I have learned my lesson and will ...

Downgrade XFCE from 19.3 to 19.2

Woe is me! After upgrading to 19.3, running it and being happy that everything was satisfactory, I foolishly deleted all 19.2 Timeshift backups. Now after numerous updates I'm finding things are no longer satisfactory (eg flashing panel and now intermittent flashing right-click menus). Conclu...

@ cipricus, Did you upgrade or new install ? I run Mint 19.3 Tricia XFCE and my panel does have opacity settings and is in fact working with transparency! I can see this reply panel feintly through the panel. Panel Appearance has two opacity sliders. I used the upgrade path rather than new install a...

Re: Notification panel refreshing continuously

@ smurphos,

Thanks, sorry, I was probably too brief, I had a later v5 kernel installed and then reverted to v4 but found no difference. I had not noticed that the OP was using Mate panel which I assume is different to mine. However the same problem exists even with compositing switched off.

Re: Kernels?

So what happens when a kernel stops receiving support? A vortex opens in the space-time continuum and sucks the universe down the cosmic drain hole. Nothing happens. No updates, no security patches, no driver bug fixes. Nada. The answer to your next question is 'change to a supported kernel'. Ah, b...

Re: Notification panel refreshing continuously

I too have same problem with older kernel, its a recent problem but I can't identify which update started it. One time this did not occur with the current kernel. The workspace switcher and Notification area flash but the other panel icons do not. Internet searches have drawn a blank. I have tried r...

Please define 'barebone'.
Surely everyone knows 'barebone' is a computer? he he.
I don't think there is an answer without knowing the 'barebone' specs.
