Re: Live persistent USB sticks

imho using flash for this is questionable regarding longevity. There is considerable rewrite cycles involved and normal flash drive longevity must be considered. Flash sticks v sdhc cards - I have never had a flash stick fail, but never used one for long term live persistence. However, I have been ...

Re: Project: sync tool

Athenaeum suits me fine on the grounds that you'd probably have to go searching go-ogle for the meaning. I encourage self-sufficiency in that department :) OK but it dissuades new linux users being introduced to the system. I suppose at that stage they still think of syncToy (if they are even aware...

Re: Project: sync tool

Good luck with this project, if you're still looking for a name, how about 'syncChief' which gives an clue to its purpose and AFAIN has not been used. One of the complaints I hear about linux is the strange names given to apps which obscure the function. Also could I ask you to consider at least one...

Re: Writing a program - Which is the best forum for a newbie?

Many modern BASICs are nothing like the BASIC of the 70's and 80's. Today's BASICs can be object oriented, have variable scoping, and have many control structures that allow structured programming. The reason it's called Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code is because it's great for begi...

Re: Writing a program - Which is the best forum for a newbie?

Building a fully functioning application is very time consuming, especially for someone who has not programmed before! There exists a very good BASIC which simplifies production of GUI elements, currently for Windows, but a Linux version is now being tested. The windows version runs with linux/wine ...

........... Thanks to all and goodbye! I don't think he is reading replies to which people have freely given time to writing! The quote probably says all. I find that those with strong theoretical and scientific knowledge can't see the wood from the trees on more simple matters. (Apologies to forum...

Re: You can download Spotify in Linux Mint Now thanks to this link that I share

Not wishing to denigrate installing Spotify, but I now use Spotify through a Web browser, which needs no installation.
https://open.spotify.com/browse
Maybe there is a good reason for installing that I am not aware of. If so please tell me.

Re: Returning to Mint.

For the versions earlier than 17 you won't get any updates. Best option woulD be to download 19.1 and install. The updates will be available till 2023. Sorry, my choice of words was open to misinterpretation - must use better grammar! Was just commenting on early Mint version, should have made it c...

Returning to Mint.

Hi from England,
this is about my 4th time of returning to Mint, which has something that keeps drawing me back! I prefer XFCE and Sage-Fresh theme on a Lenovo i5 T520. I still have somewhere a live CD (or DVD) of a very early version of Mint.
