Re: How to uninstall Zoiper
...anything installed with a .deb file can be uninstalled with apt or the mint software manager or synaptic because the latter 2 programs are based on apt. Thanks. I uninstalled using Synaptic Package manager, as you suggested. Also, find -iname "*zoiper*" returned ./.Zoiper5 ./Downloads/...

Re: Linphone: Synaptic official repo version doesn't work, which older operating system (in VM) to try instead?
Right, but Cinnamon works also without 3D hardware acceleration. It will use software rendering instead. Guess I was mistaken about Cinnamon needing 3D hardware acceleration. -- I got the virtual machine set up using Mate 19.3. I am more familiar with Mate. If I were to do it again, I would install...

Re: Synaptic official repo version doesn't work, which older operating system (in VM) to try instead?
But, I don't want to install Cinnamon in a virtual machine as I understand there is a small security vulnerability in doing that. Where do you get that from? I thought Cinnamon sometimes not good as a virtual machine because uses 3D hardware acceleration and to enable that on a guest additions VM c...

Linphone: Synaptic official repo version doesn't work, which older operating system (in VM) to try instead? [solved]
I am unable to get Linphone (the version that's in Synaptic) to work on Linux Mint Cinnamon 20.3. Instead of trying to find a version that will work on Linux Mint 20.3, I plan to install a different operating system in a virtual machine (Oracle VirtualBox) to see if the version in Synaptic will work...

Re: How much Video RAM to allocate?
The maximum available if you want your VM to perform OK, use 3d acceleration etc. It's not 'taken' from your host's Video memory, but just adds to the total RAM used by the VM when running. Thanks for the info. I set it to 256MB like you suggest (the max). I ran the virtual machine for a little and...

How much Video RAM to allocate? [solved]
Linux Mint 20.3 Cinnamon 64 bit With Oracle Virtualbox, I am trying to decide how much video RAM to allocate to a Windows 10 Pro virtual machine. In order to decide on that, I would like to know how much total video RAM my computer has. I see that the video ports are built into the motherboard so I ...

Re: Virtualbox installation errors
I installed the software in the original method that I used (by having the entry in sources.list. I am happy to report that it worked.
Probably the solution is attributed to having secure boot turned off. The only other thing that I did differently is removing the directory in .config.

Re: Virtualbox installation errors
As far as I am aware apt purge virtualbox* will remove just about everything you need to remove in order to do a restore of VirtualBox.. when I ran find $HOME -iname "*box*" I found: /home/netherprov1nce/.cinnamon/spices.cache/applet/vboxlauncher@mockturtl.png Here is a view of that file....

the "other" method of installing that you are talking about is by using a .deb file? Yes, it is a .deb file, but highlighted for Ubuntu, from here.. https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads VB.png Also download the VirtualBox 6.1.32 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack from here: ht...

Re: Virtualbox installation errors
I've gotten that driver error when I had a kernel that wasn't compatible with the version of VB I was using, but that was a long time ago. That error indicates that the driver isn't signed. Usually it just works (unless I'm installing VB on OSX, with a new Apple kernel). Don't use any ppa, go direc...

Blink SIP softphone - doesn't support VOIP? [Solved]
I just installed Blink (using these instructions https://docs-new.sipthor.net/w/debian_package_repositories/ which are linked to on their page), with the plan that I can use it with a VOIP provider. However, in the GUI, I don't see the "standard" looking questions-- username, password, and...

Re: Chromium Doesn't Store Certain Passwords
You could try resetting the Chromium settings to default. Or, create a new profile and see if the passwords can save there.
As an interim plan, you could use a different Chromium based browser.

What "types" of installations modify sources.list?
When a program needs me to modify sources.list, does that translate to the program installing in a certain way. For example, does that mean it's a PPA? Really, what I want to know is what type of installation this "proposes:" But, I decided to try to phrase my question more generally https...

Using Synaptic Package Manager to remove orphaned packages (resulting from program I removed) [solved]
Linux Mint 20.3 Cinnamon 64-bit
I just removed Jami, a program that was not working well for me.
Now I want to remove the packages that installed at the time that I installed Jami.
If it helps at all in identifying these, I installed Jami today.

Re: Changing permissions in home folder to defaults
This will do exactly what you said you wanted: find PATH_TO_DIR \( -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \+ \) -or \( -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \+ \) Of course, change PATH_TO_DIR to whatever you want to use. This will work recursively, BTW, as you described. Thanks. I just had to put double quotes around th...

Installed VirtualBox through the repos. Question about steps for uninstalling [solved]
I installed Virtual Box by using what is in the repositories (I used Synaptic Package Manager). This seems to have been a bad idea because I got the error, WARNING: The character device /dev/vboxdrv does not exist. Please install the virtualbox-dkms package and the appropriate headers, most likely l...
