Re: After upgrade to Mint 20 - WiFi disappeared

Mint 20 seems to be giving a lot of folks problems. If no one else has a solution, maybe go back to 19.3 or try a usb wifi adapter. Panda is often suggested here as one that works out of the box. Exactly what I'm doing on an older HP Pavilion g6 that I've had for 7+ years. 19.3 functioned flawlessl...

[RESOLVED] Re: LM 20 & Thunderbird

Think I resolved this myself. Just copied the entire .thunderbird directory and then, via terminal, entered "thunderbird -P --allow-downgrade". All appears to be back to normal.

LM 20 & Thunderbird

Spent the morning creating a new Linux Mint 20 HD. Once the install finished and updated, I moved my Thunderbird e-mail files over to the new install. Launched thunderbird and all seemed OK. Rebooted, and later when I launched Thunderbird, I was greeted with the attached screen. Is there something I...

Re: Wireless Keeps Randomly Dropping Some System Freezes

I've run into something similiar with my Asus G551JW i7 laptop. It will loose wifi several times a day. However, no system freeze occurs, it just can't communicate. This started a couple of months ago and has gotten to the point where I've pulled (hence no inxi) the LM 19.3 hard drive and installed ...

Disabling Touchpad not remembered/19.3 Cinnamon

It seems that I'm constantly needing to disable the laptop touchpad every couple of days. Just an annoyance I could do without. Is there a more permanent way insure the touchpad setting doesn't change unless I want it to change?

Did you try

Code: Select all

find . -type f -name '*.jpg' -delete
Ah, just too simple. Thanks!

[Resolved] Mass delete of certain files

Not really a newbie, but the following has me stumped big time. I have a Music directory consisting of 40,000+ files within 2,770 sub-directories. Most of the files the I want to delete are jpgs. I can list then from the directory with "find . -type f -name '*.jpg'", but that is as far as I can get....

An observation

I’ve been a Linux user for a bit over 13 years now. Most of that time it was using Ubuntu Unity, but for the last couple of years Linux Mint Cinnamon. My preference is Linux, but I’ve kept a Windows 10 hard drive updated for the laptop. On occasion, I’ve swapped out the Linux hard drive and ran with...

Re: Thunderbird refuses to use my default profile

My issue is "somewhat" similar to what I've read here and mine is self-inflicted. I have a tendency to flip between Linux Mint 19.2 and Windows 10. Currently I'm on Win10. My last attempt to return to LN 19.2 was thwarted by the profile conflict encountered above. And when I finally *thought* I had ...

Re: Best program for backup/imaging of Linux system partition

I tried Clonezilla, and it did seem to work. But the design and UI is really obscure. I'm not sure I trust it. <snip> Clonezilla has saved my bacon several times. Anywhere from partitions to whole drives have been restored with Clonezilla. Not sure what I would trust without having Clonezilla. -- M...

blkid needs sudo. But personally I find it safer to just go Mint menu > Disks, then
  • select the partition you want to permanently mount
  • click the cogs icon > Edit Mount Options
  • De-select User Session Defaults
  • Check Mount at system startup
I'll give this a go, thanks!

Hi Mike,
Just to verify, did you do an in-place upgrade from 19.1 using the Update Manager, as opposed to a fresh install?
Yes, the Update Manage ran the show.

Only Since 19.2

I've been using LM 19.1 for probably close to 6 months without issue. When 19.2 was released, I upgraded. However, once or twice a day I receive the attached message when I try to access the Music partition on my 1TB hard drive. Question.png To access the Music partition, I have to unmount the parti...

Seems to me if this was a serious threat there would be more talk about it. I've found nothing other than what I posted. So, I'll leave Firefox as is unless something more is found.

Re: where did backup tool go?

I only image off my system every other weekend. For that, I have used Clonezilla for the last couple of years. Can't think of a reason for me to use anything else.

Re: Linux Mint on an ASUS ROG GX501GI

I do realize that ASUS computers are not the most Linux friendly computers. I'm not quite sure I agree with the above. I'm running the ROG G551JW first with Ubuntu 14.04LTS followed by 18.04LTS and now with Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon and I've yet to come across anything that is not working perfectly....

Re: Rhythmbox "forgets" music on NAS drive every boot

To my way of thinking (which has been deemed questionable in the past) the next thing I would try would be the removal of Rhythmbox and then the reinstallation. Passed that, I'm out of ideas. I'm relatively new to Mint, but I'm a 12 year veteran with Linux (mainly Ubuntu) and I've never encountered ...
