Re: A disgruntled windows user ranting on overly complicated Linux

I'm not a granny, I'm a grandpa getting fairly long in the tooth, but I don't have any problems running my Linux mint. It wasn't too complicated to install myself, runs beautifully and I love it. Best of all it's free, and no matter how much this troll wants to rant he can't say that about Windows.

Re: What is your strategy for avoiding COVID-19 ?

I have decided that my forays will be limited to the dimensions of our 6 acres of grass and trees. I'm doing the same here in Australia. I reckon these isolation restrictions are great if your a bit of loner, like I am. I'm not going anywhere. I'm 72 yrs old and live in a small rural town. My foray...

Re: Simple Scan & Wireless Network

I had this problem with my canon printer/scanner. The problem is related to your firewall if you have it enabled. To solve the problem you need to find your printer's ip address and add it to the "Rules" section of the firewall gui. The rule is worded as follows - "Anywhere ALLOW IN xxx.xxx.x.xxx". ...

Hi,
It might be worth looking at this page and seeing if this driver is for you.....
Sorry to contradict but the op will need Nvidia driver version 430.50 for his 1660Ti Gpu

I appreciate everybody's input, but my question still stands.
Why not just run each os on it's own computer.

Try this;
Copy all the files from the CD into the wine C folder, and then run the install from there.
Hi Spearmint2 ,

I did as you suggested but it didn't work. I still kept getting the "Recoil requires Win95/98" message box popping up, with no other response from the installer.

Thanks anyway.

Re: Nvidia Drivers install help

Hi DS, You could try the procedure I used to get my geforce card working well in Mint 19.1. Scroll to the bottom of the following page, read my post, and follow the steps. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=301721 The Nvidia driver website says your card uses driver version 430.107. How do I install a Win 98 game using wine?

Hi, I'm using Linux Mint 19.1 on my desktop pc and have Wine-stable installed. Wine seems to be working fine when I install a Windows program but I'm having problems installing a game named "Recoil". It's a futuristic tank shoot 'em up game and when I run the install.exe on the Recoil cd in Wine I j...

Re: Recovery after a hard drive failure

Hi Spearmint2, By mistake I deleted a partition on my spare 320gb hdd which held my Timeshift snapshots. This caused me to lose my grub configuration and crashed my Linux Mint 19.1 on my main 500gb hdd drive. I tried several things to fix it but finally had to admit defeat and accept the fact that I...

Re: Linux Mint tough as nails

What is interesting for me is to read that your configuration settings have survived the re install. I always choose the option to erase the disk entirely when I do a new install. But it's nice to read that another option (is it the first option, top of the list, during a new install?) will save ma...

Why care to change it if you don't even see it getting used?
I only changed it to see if it made a difference to anything, but when I couldn't see where it had any effect I reset it to default.

Thanks for the info.

Linux Mint tough as nails

Hi, I had to tell somebody this so I thought I'd post it here. Through my own blind stupidity I inadvertantly deleted a partition on my spare hdd which held my Timeshift snapshots. This somehow caused me to lose my grub configuration, and crashed my Linux Mint 19.1 on my main drive. Then, in my naiv...

Linux Mint font question.

Hi folks, For once, I don't have a problem that needs solving. I'm just here to ask a (possibly dumb) question. I've been using the Font Selection tool to enlarge some font sizes in my Linux Mint 19.1. due to poor eyesight. There are selections for Default, Desktop, and Document fonts and also Windo...

Re: Browsers slow at first start.

it is only my browsers which are slow to open when first launched Could you try shutting off your router, restarting the computer, then starting one of the slow browsers. as you would normally. See if it is still slow. If it isn't that can narrow down the problem. If it is, it rules out your router...

Re: Browsers slow at first start.

Well, I've managed to get Opera opening in 10 seconds each time now after reverting to the much older version 50.0. Any version higher than this takes around 20 seconds to launch first time and 10 to 15 seconds thereafter. I gave up on Chrome and uninstalled it as a bad joke, and Firefox is almost u...
