Benefit of RAM OC for Games on Linux

Hello there I'm planning for a new computer system. The system will (also) be used for gaming. I probably want to overclock the RAM (Not the CPU itself). Does anyone know how much games (native+Wine/Proton) will benefit? Especially compared to RAM OC on Windows? The components will be the following:...

Re: Can't find WiFi connection on Dell laptop using Linux mint 19!

Hi, have a look here: https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/b43

You might need the b43 driver package, (apt install firmware-b43-installer or firmware-b43legacy-installer) but check on the site first for your specific device!

Re: OpenVPN: Don't redirect everything through tunnel

I guess I'll find a way with the autostart to work then, considering your security advise. I've also added your performance tweaks to my server configuration, and seems it's quite faster (more responsive) now compared to before. Guess I'll consider this topic solved then, hopefully it will help othe...

Re: OpenVPN: Don't redirect everything through tunnel

Ah, indeed, after removing the warning is gone now, thanks a lot :) Just two more (hopefully) final questions about this: 1. Do you know a proper solution how to connect the VPN on startup + mount the samba shares from there? Because I think in just adding to fstab it will try to mount too early, be...

Re: OpenVPN: Don't redirect everything through tunnel

Don't want to start a discussion about "hosts are safe/unsafe behind NAT/Router" ;) It can be useful, especially if you plan to add more VPN users, to configure firewall rules to restrict access to resources on your network. You would place those rules in the FORWARD chain on the tun interface usin...

Re: OpenVPN: Don't redirect everything through tunnel

Seems it's working now as intended (When I set the "Use this connection only for ressources in network" option on client's side as well). I've added/uncommented/changed the following options in server.conf: topology subnet log /var/log/openvpn.log route 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 push "route 192.168....

Re: OpenVPN: Don't redirect everything through tunnel

192.168.10.0/24: My Home network's (of my openvpn client) LAN 192.168.1.0/24 : My server's(where the openvpn server is running) LAN. 192.168.122.0 : This is just for a local samba share (clientside) with using in QEMU/KVM, so this doesn't apply here, ignore it. Hmm, drawing, hope this will explain i...

Re: OpenVPN: Don't redirect everything through tunnel

Thanks for your response. I tried that option, but it didn't solve my problem. When enabled, I could still access the internet, but however, was not able to connect to the local network over the VPN anymore. Maybe this is interesting, what "route" prints (on the client) when connected or not. If not...

[Solved] OpenVPN: Don't redirect everything through tunnel

Hello there I'm owning a Server (Debian 10) which runs an Openvpn server on it. I mainly installed the VPN for accessing the samba shares (hosted on the same machine) from my client (Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon) over the internet. I added the VPN Client details using the Network manager GUI: https://i....

Re: Increase open File limit doesn't work

Hm well I didn't make any changes to this before (At least I don't think so), seems these values I got by default... On a (default) ubuntu 16.04-VM I get the same value as you. EDIT: If I start a session from a Shell (Ctrl+Alt+F1) and login there, my limit is 50000, as I've put in /etc/security/limi...

Increase open File limit doesn't work

Hello there I want to increase my open file limit for my non-root user. I found a lot of instructions how to do so, but none of them worked. I can't increase my Hardware limit (only decrease), ulimit -Hn always is max. 4096, ulimit -Sn is changeable up to Hard limit. Solutions I tried so far (Yes, I...

Re: Improve Audio playback qualitiy on Mint 19.1

I think I found a tweak, seems deleting the files is not necessary. I made a script now containing this: #!/bin/sh #Select default analog audio device pacmd set-default-sink alsa_output.pci-0000_61_04.0.analog-stereo #Kill pulseaudio if running pulseaudio -k #Now, the LADSPA Devices should be back, ...

Re: Improve Audio playback qualitiy on Mint 19.1

@Gypsy. If you just want to go back to what you had originally, just delete the files in /home/YourUserName/.config/pulse then run pulseaudio -k in the terminal. @XXXBold. Try deleting everything EXCEPT default.pa in the same folder then run pulseaudio -k in the terminal. Hm, when I do so, I have t...

Re: Improve Audio playback qualitiy on Mint 19.1

I've read that linked article and from what I've seen, that stuff about Pulseaudio resampling is rubbish. To see what sampling frequency is being used, open an audio file with mediinfo to get the sampling rate. Then while it's playing execute this in the terminal: cat /proc/asound/card?/stream0 | g...

I've found out some settings to make in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf, think that's the right way to go :)

Improve Audio playback qualitiy on Mint 19.1

Hello there I'd like to improve the audio quality of my system, if possible. I'm owning a pretty decent Headset (Beyerdynamic MMX 300) and also a dedicated sound card (ASUS Xonar DX/XD). Primary this is related to playback for music, but would appreciate if it's also applied in general or at least s...

Re: [Steam+Proton] Skyrim Special Edition issues

I think this may require specialists. I recommend visiting The Proton Database Discord server, and posting in the proton-game-support channel. https://www.protondb.com/ https://discord.gg/uuwK9EV Okay,I'll have a look at it, thank you. BTW I managed to fix the DW-Bug: In the Mouse menu (from Mint) ...
