Re: The Sunlight Manifesto
That article would improve by rigorous editing. It's at least two times too long and I say that as someone who reads for fun. In other words, I lost interest about halfway through. Sorry! Yeah, it does kind of tend to blather on a bit, doesn't it? I don't think you've positioned yourself well to ad...

Re: The Sunlight Manifesto
Whatever the sport, everyone thinks they knows how their team could have won. And everyone thinks they know how to win next year. Be aware the OP wrote the article linked in the OP. I actually don't for a minute think I'd be better at pitching stories to CNBC or at running surveys and focus groups ...

That's pretty egregious. You've quoted multiple excerpts that are immediately refuted in the piece itself.

I quite like this forum. It's easy to read, easy to navigate, totally usable on my phone as well and doesn't make me wait too long for it to load

Re: PC Mag is now telling users about leaving Windows... For LM!
No surprise they recommend Mint over other distros. However, with most people being sheep today, I bet very few who read the article will actually make the switch. Almost nobody is going to change their daily operating system because of one single article, conversation, youtube video or whatever. T...

I still thought I should mention the niggle with the media player though.

I'm not sure if I'm just imagining it.. but Cinammon seems a bit faster than on 19.2!
Pretty cool.. often you expect newer software to want more resources.

Re: Did you expect that you'll use Linux?!
I can distinctly remember installing Linux on a partition in around 2002 and deciding that it was definitely not at all for me. Now I refuse to touch anything else. Hahahaha.

Re: Why We Need a Universal, Open Standard for Editing Documents
I am old enough to remember Adobe putting out the Multiple Master font format, the idea being one could have a limited number of actual typefaces which would cover the majority of use cases, and you could basically morph a font between different weights. Adobe also has PDF editing software, somethi...

Why We Need a Universal, Open Standard for Editing Documents
I recently had a chat with Dr. Tamir Hassan from the Editable PDF Initiative about his work to develop a genuinely robust and portable document standard that can be opened and edited by any software, from word processors to desktop publishing to graphics suite. If anyone's interested, it's at https:...

Re: Emulating Retro Platforms
I've got Retropie running on a Raspberry Pi.. it's great for old console games.
I wasn't exactly looking for advice about what to do though... I was more wanting to open up a conversation to see where other Mint users have gone with this.. it's especially interesting if it's a bit odd

Emulating Retro Platforms
Hi, Just curious if anyone here is emulating old computing platforms on Mint to play games. I realise that DOS gaming is popular.. as are classic consoles.. but what about the Amiga, Archimedes, Atari home computers.. or even the Apple II or the Spectrum or even more obscure? What emulators are you ...

Re: How many are 100% Linux here?
I still have a Windows partition on my daily driver. But it's never really been used.
I like poking around with Risc OS on the Raspberry Pi sometimes too.
For web hosting, it's Linux all the way!
I'd say I'm 97% Linux.

Re: Why is MX-Linux more popular than LinuxMint?
Having the most views on Distro Watch would mean that you've got a lot of interest from regular distro hoppers or from people who have a reason to change. The great mass of people though who are happy with their distribution and are getting on with the rest of their lives aren't going to be loading ...

Re: Would Linux Reduce Ransomware Attacks?
A very well considered response, and, I suspect, not very far from the truth.......:D One of the big assumptions I'm making with it, is that the standard repositories are generally trustworthy. At the moment, that seems to be generally true. But if scammers were more motivated to target Linux, they...

Re: Would Linux Reduce Ransomware Attacks?
A few thoughts: 1) One of the reasons that Windows is targeted is because this is where the users are. It's particularly where busy and less technically sophisticated business users are. That's who the scammers chasing. If that cohort started moving to Linux, the scammers would follow them there. 2)...
