Re: Inline Skaters Here?

Tee stop was one of the first things I learnt when skating. Those rubber stoppers are an accident waiting to happen. T stops even work on conventional skates. The only problem I ever saw with inline skates was the fact that they were not suited to rough surfaces. They fixed that later with bigger w...

Re: Inline Skaters Here?

I never use the rubber heel brake. I used it when I first began, but after learning to T-stop, I entirely removed it. I imagine you could stop/brake on ice skates the same, but I wouldn't know. I've had only one serious ankle injury since skating, and I never go out without a helmet and pads on. Thi...

Re: Inline Skaters Here?

This is the first time I've heard the name Mission. The skates I primarily use are Powerslides, with 110's. I absolutely love it. I started losing weight a while back ago, and the first thing I wanted to do once I was fit enough was get into skating. Its a great cardio, and I hope to be one day in l...

Re: GPU Recommendation (for VM passthrough)

If you current GPU does everything you need, keep it and don't upgrade. It should be easy to pass it through to the VM. I'm using a GTX 970 and it works fine. Graphics cards are still ridiculously expensive. If you decide to upgrade, I'd consider Nvidia as my experience has been better with Nvidia ...

Inline Skaters Here?

Granted, this is a forum dedicated to Linux Mint and all things related, so I feel obligated to apologize for starting a discussion about something so distant from Linux Mint, Linux in general, and all things we typically talk about here on the forum. Does anyone here skate? Particularity on inline ...

Before even really getting started, the PSU blew up on me (or at least, I'm assuming its the PSU). This thing was old to be fair.

Re: Do I really need to encrypt home if I have full disk encryption?

Another scenario that comes to mind when encryption is a great idea is if you install your OS on a flash drive or external/portable hard drive. I have used Linux almost entirely on USB 2.0 flash drives, and while I never encrypted them, I would certainly recommend it if you carry the flash drive wit...

Hi NevyNeverKnowsBest, Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux Mint and its excellent forum! I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well. Re: Any Music Producers Here on Linux?

Another guitarist here, but know nothing about such things, so, like you, am interested. I'm interested in hearing from anyone who used Guitarix. I haven't toyed with it yet. I would love to replace the proprietary software I use with freeware/open source virtual amps and effects. I've experimented...

Any Music Producers Here on Linux?

I play guitar and use virtual amps and effects very extensively. Currently, my entire setup in based on Windows. I know about the Linux music world, but do we have anyone here who'd like to share their setup?

Well, yes, that's entirely the point of using encryption. Same goes for forgetting your full disk encryption password.
True.

...but I can't help but to ask; have they quit the project? Is POL in its final stages? Looks like they're working on version 5.0 now. There was a post on it last month (January 2019). Joe I did not see this, so it is in active development after all. This is relieving, despite the slow progress. I ...

Re: Do I really need to encrypt home if I have full disk encryption?

Admins can access it while you have it unlocked (i.e. you are logged in), but when you are not they would need either your login password or your encryption passphrase to be able to access it. Note that with access I mean the files contained within the encrypted container. They do, of course, have ...

Not in a single user scenario. In a multi-user scenario it gives protection from other users (including administrators) accessing your files.
I did not know that, admins can't access it? Can admins not give themselves ownership though?

imho--plus reasons already mentioned--this could lead to nightmarish double jeopardy in an unexpected recovery scenario
My thoughts exactly. I can't think of anything on a hard drive that is worth the risk. Once that password is lost, the chances are, quite literally, one in a billion.

Re: Can we play gta 5 in linux

The beauty of Linux, my friend, is that you can try anything. Try to install it, try to run it, and try to document everything for other users to learn from. WINE is going to be your main tool. From there, its really just trial and error. Google can point in the right direction and I'm sure there ar...

Re: Do I really need to encrypt home if I have full disk encryption?

how do I go about fully disabling the encfs encryption for home? Do I need to also disable it for the swap partition? Good question, and now that I think of it only after reading this thread, I have never tried undoing the home encryption before. I would be learning something new myself if you figu...

Re: Is my system good enough for gaming?

Truth be told, you really won't know until you try. From my experience, even the oldest and weakest systems can still emulate GBA and SNES games fairly well at full speed. However, I am betting you likely want to play the bigger and more modern titles. Granted, keep in mind you're on Linux; you like...

Has PlayOnLinux Died?

There has been very little (if any) development for POL. This used to be my go-to compatibility layer tool for my Windows apps and programs. I knew POL 5 was in the works, but its been in development now for a very long time. The current version is still 4.3.4, which if I'm not mistaken, has been th...
