Re: What's The Correct Command to Install LSB In 'Debbie?'

Okay, took quite a lot of effort but finally solved it. Downloaded lsb-compat from the Debian web site; file: lsb-compat_9.20161125_amd64.deb.

Now all LSB dependencies are satisfied. I meet LSB 3.2 compliance and packages install.

Re: Should LMDE 4 Users Install the "LSB Package?"

Indeed it is, @Nuts2U ; latest version per Debian web site. Unfortunately no matter what I try to allow installation of lsb 3.2 compliant packages I can't ditch: Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: lsb (>=3.2) So I tried: sudo apt-get install lsb 3.2 and got ... skip to last line regarding "n...

[SOLVED] Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: lsb (>=3.2)

I'm seeking help on a correct command for installing LSB in LMDE 4 Debbie. The Linux Foundation's guide for "Preparation of LSB-compliant distributions" (https://wiki.linuxfoundation.org/openprinting/database/driverpackages) says with Debian use: sudo yum install lsb I did so and by all in...

Re: problem with cups

Can try, Javier. But first, we need to be sure you may have a DNS issue. Did you also try TCP Traceroute for the following? traceroute http://127.0.0.1:631/ As I said, if you get response there, it must be DNS. If no response, there are about six more tests I can think of. As you know, DNS stands fo...

Re: Freshly installed Linux Mint Mate won't print

Well, at least it knows something is connected to the router. When I typed in 'driverless' it returned : ipp://DEV77E5D1.local:631/ipp/print What does that tell you? Yes, initial setup for adding printers using IPP, that in turn uses URL notation to identify printers. So like you said your printer ...

Re: problem with cups

So, "Unknown name or service." You might have a DNS problem. Did you also try the IP address (127.0.0.1:631) instead of the domain name to see what happens? If you did not and IP works then you need to look at your DNS setup. DNS settings are changed in /etc/resolv.conf. A simple solution ...

Re: problem with cups

Since the connection is refused there is either no server at this address or a firewall is blocking the connection. Not much more can be said from the information received but did you add or make adjustments to a firewall around the time you lost print ability? The codes 110 and 111 are generally ca...

Re: problem with cups

Alright, javiercamano90 , that "[ ok ]" with restart confirmation is what you should see. CUPS still intact. So the first thing to determine is whether your version of CUPS may be using an outdated certificate/encryption protocol. OpenSSL should be able to tell you whether the server is av...

Re: Freshly installed Linux Mint Mate won't print

If anyone has another idea within the limits of my equipment I will give it a try. As it was I had been without a printer for 10 -11 days and needed to get something done. Thanks, Rusty That Dell is quite old; I can't imagine how you ran Cinnamon on it, even if you upgraded the memory. While your d...

Re: problem with cups

Sorry to have missed your post earlier in the week, @javiercamano90 . You must be using Mint Mate or Cinnamon and because I'm currently on my Mint 19.3 Xfce computer I don't have " system -> Administration -> Services " so try restarting CUPS from the terminal using: sudo /etc/init.d/cups ...

Re: How Do I Clear EVERYTHING "Epson" From Mint 19.3?

Thanks to everyone. I hastily tried all of the recommendations so will be revisiting. This could take some time, especially given results from the guidance of @Flemur . Ok, I don't have a solution, but you rebooted, right? Well, not immediately as I do for kernel updates. Check hidden folders in you...

Sorry, @sleeper12 , I should have used brackets -- [$package-name] -- to indicate a blank. And should have simply written out exactly what I enter in the first place. bear in mind that I don’t have any knowledge of working with the terminal. Printer configuration is quite simple since at least Linux Mint 18 . How Do I Clear EVERYTHING "Epson" From Mint 19.3?

I want to clear all traces of my Epson Stylus NX420 out of Mint 19.3 as I troubleshoot why proprietary drivers require constant reinstallation. After deleting the NX420 through either "system-config-printer" or CUPS (http://localhost:631/admin) I first used: sudo apt remove $package-name L...

Re: How Do I Replace Mint's Highly "Laggy" File Manager -- and With What?

I don't think Pjotr has ever expressed the opinion that one should not use a clean installation to switch from one desktop environment to another, in the same version. The expression 'within a series' implies an upgrade; what you did is not an upgrade. Mate and Xfce are equal alternatives, there's ...

Re: How Do I Replace Mint's Highly "Laggy" File Manager -- and With What?

Just for clarity be aware that Mint per se doesn't have a File Manager. Learning so much. Thanks. As it happens, I clean-installed 19.3 Mate on both affected systems after 19.3 Xfce upgrades created problems including very jittery HDDs, disappearing or transparent windows, dysfunctional touch pad s...

Re: How Do I Replace Mint's Highly "Laggy" File Manager -- and With What?

I wouldn't do that. Use cp , not mv . You can delete the source files later if that's what you want. Oh my. Big thank you. Copy the safe way to go. By the way, right-clicking a file or folder provides the option to move or copy it somewhere. Would that not activate the same process as using the ter...
