Re: Can't download Wine on Linux Mint

Hi, I'm quite new on Linux Mint, I just want to download Wine just to run Windows applications, I went to the Winehq and I see that I can get the application by putting on the Terminal sudo apt install --install-recommends winehq-stable but appears to me E: Unable to locate package winehq-stable. I...

Re: AppImages won't work for me in Mint 22 Cinnamon

I have just realised something. When I originally installed the LM22 beta I do now remember getting an error message. After a quick internet search the recommended solution was to add the --no-sandbox launch option. As you are specifically using a sandbox this may not be the solution you want though.

Just for info, Bitwarden is working fine for me on LM22 beta. I'm not using any extra sandboxing, just running the AppImage.

Re: I can't do Linux.

Maybe I'm misreading the OP but it seems he/she/they are having problems actually getting a USB stick to boot, which sounds to me like the boot priority is wrong on the motherboard in which case entering the BIOS setup and changing that to one of the USB options should solve it. Rufus or Ventoy shou...

Re: Why is numlock by default disabled after Mint installation?

It's a BIOS setting on most motherboards. I always have mine set to enabled and do use it a lot :), but the OS determines whether it's on by default outside of the basic system boot.

Re: Why is numlock by default disabled after Mint installation?

It's always bugged me that you can't auto enable Num Lock as part of the basic install of Linux Mint, but as soon as I realised that was the case I just got used to installing numlockx as part of my default install. Odd to have to work around such an obvious feature but only takes two seconds.

Re: ALVR & Quest 3: How is it?

I've just done a quick test on LM22 beta and ALVR is mostly working. You don't need to do anything special to get sound in your HMD but I had to disable the mic as I could hear myself breathing! I have seen people mention that on Discord so there is probably a fix; I just haven't looked into it yet....

Re: ALVR & Quest 3: How is it?

Pipewire is not installed on LM 21.3. Adding, and switching to it, was not difficult though. Take a look at this post where I explained how I did it. I did notice some occasional popping noises when using certain other applications. LM22 will ship with Pipewire by default. I have just installed the ...

Re: ALVR & Quest 3: How is it?

I haven't had any problems with alignment on my Quest 3. Everything seems to track nicely in my experience. That does remind me of one other setting I changed though and that was so that it was Quest 3 controllers displaying and not Quest 2, which was the default and what I had it set at for quite s...

Re: ALVR & Quest 3: How is it?

I am not an expert on the subject by any means but have had reasonably good success with the current release version (20.8.1). Now that I have PipeWire working and sound in the headset it's massively more immersive (it's never good when you hear a zombie but can't tell where it's coming from :P). I ...

Re: ALVR & Quest 3 - How to fix handshake error ?

If you click the menu button on the left controller do you get the Steam overlay show up with your library etc? That worked! :) Playing Arizona Sunshine 2 right now. All is working fine now. Thank you :D Great, glad it's working :). Arizona Sunshine 2 is on my wishlist after recently completing the...

Re: ALVR & Quest 3 - How to fix handshake error ?

Now it is connecting and I can see the background: https://images.app.goo.gl/iF1CfSZ3WZ4YfvWH9 But nothing happens than?! Is that normal? Yes that's about right. It used to go to the Steam home environment when launching but it's stopped doing that in one of the recent updates. You tend to still ge...

Re: ALVR & Quest 3 - How to fix handshake error ?

Thank you @Infidelus! Looks like we are half way done. The streamer can now connect, but I only see a black screen, if I put my glasses on. Did you add: ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/SteamVR/bin/vrmonitor.sh %command% to your SteamVR launch options as mentioned in the Linux Troubleshooting guide?...

Re: ALVR & Quest 3 - How to fix handshake error ?

Replacing pulsaudio with pipewire: is that to get the sound on the quest? Exactly that as PulseAudio will not be played through the Quest 3 headset. If you just want to get rid of the error and not use PipeWire you can just rerun the setup wizard and ignore the Software requirements section. The so...

Re: ALVR & Quest 3 - How to fix handshake error ?

If you haven't already, check out the Linux Troubleshooting guide on GitHub. Use the tar.gz archive, not the Flatpak. I would stick to the release version as I've seen some talk on their Discord channel about some issues with the nightly releases at the moment, and also those versions will break reg...

Just tried Discord (from the deb installer) on mine and it does snap to the left. You just need to drag it far enough over for it to do it.

Re: Losing Hope to ever use Linux

Just from a personal perspective from someone who used to do Windows technical support and has been a Linux user (for about 7 years now) I actually prefer the terminal in a lot of instances. I find it particularly useful for configuring Linux Mint after a fresh install. I have, over time, built up a...

Re: Pipewire - get latest stable version?

I did recently install Pipewire, purely so I could have sound on my Quest 3 using ALVR.

The repository the ALVR team have in their instructions is ppa:pipewire-debian/pipewire-upstream

I'm not necessarily recommending you use it but it does give me version 1.0.7.

Re: I'm finally starting to switch to Linux

after watching some videos i decided to install linux and started using it as dualboot. adobe products are vital so somehow i have to use windows. When (and if ;)) you are more comfortable with Linux Mint you might consider installing Windows as a virtual machine. That way you won't need to dual bo...

Re: A little computer humour

Now, I have in my 2012 computer 16 GB RAM, while in 1995, on my first home PC I had 800 MB... of hard disk capacity! 800MB! Pure luxury. What did you do with all that space?! My first PC (Packard Bell 386sx 25) had a whopping 40MB hard drive, so I had to use doublespace if I wanted more. I can't re...
