Re: What is the cinnamon --replace process?

Thanks for this tip - I turned off the 'receive files from remote devices' and all my CPU usage numbers dropped down to normal levels!

Re: Why does Nemo keep freezing?

What version of Cinnamon / Nemo? I came across an apparent Nemo memory leak in current Nemo in Mint 19.2 when doing a mammoth photo organising session a while back, but haven't had an opportunity to try and tie down the steps to reproduce. Opening a terminal and running nemo -q should fix any slowd...

Why does Nemo keep freezing?

It seems like I have run into some hard limits with Nemo. I've been doing a lot of photo organizing lately, and when I open a folder with a lot of photos, Nemo slows down and then within an hour or so might eventually freeze up. Usually nothing else on my system is affected, but occasionally I have ...

Think I have resolved this. The temperature applet was crashing. Removed, all looks like normal.

Re: Linux Mint 19.2: applications menu is empty

tried to run an update, Cinnamon crashed and am now stuck in fallback mode. Good news, I now have access to a really crappy old-looking menu... I should mention I've been running 19.1 very successfully on this box for many months. inxi results: System: Host: mintzbox Kernel: 4.15.0-54-generic x86_64...

[SOLVED] Linux Mint 19.2: applications menu is empty

My applications menu is empty. I can right-click and edit the menu and everything is there, but from desktop I get just 'all applications' and 'recent files' - but when I mouse over applications, nothing.

*Actual* space used/available?

I am missing something obvious, but Google and LM documentation and forum searches have so far not revealed the answer to me. When I attempt to determine how much space I am using on my 'media' drive, I get the following conflicting results: Command line 'df -h' - 364GB Folder properties (right-clic...

Re: Brave Browser Users

The new way now looks like this. (you can look at both and see the differences). i found that the way listed below is necessary in order to have Brave browser work correctly as well as having the updater work correctly again. curl -s https://brave-browser-apt-release.s3.brave.com/brave-core.asc | s...

Re: Nemo does not work with USB drives, crashing with no error

Ran into this issue yesterday. I was dragging/dropping folders *inside* a secondary drive (not USB) and about every fifth drag/drop Nemo just quit. It was quite frustrating!

This is with Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon

Re: What's your hardware history

Well, being rather poor and growing up when PC's were still expensive I was unable to enjoy ownership of a home PC until I was in my 30's. I did get to play with many, and use many at work, but my first home PC was a loaner from work. One old IBM tower and an early Mac. Currently using generic deskt...

[SOLVED] Automatic login and Keyring password prompt

This PC is my personal desktop at home. I always choose automatic login for it (but not my laptop). Unfortunately this seems to then require that the keyring prompts me for my login password, mainly when Mailspring starts. It's also required for Chrome, although Chrome doesn't pop up the keyring pro...

Re: [SOLVED] Can't launch Chrome!

So when LinuxMint starts up, I get a prompt to log in to my keyring. Somehow this morning I managed to make that window disappear without successfully logging in. This caused my mail client to misbehave and blocked Chrome from starting. Rebooting and logging into the keyring fixed it. I may post a r...

Re: Folding@home-Team Linux Mint-76140

Hi donblanco and welcome to the team. If you’re running the fah control interface you can set the number of CPU cores you want to use. If you are CPU and GPU folding at the same time you must leave at least 1 CPU core free for the GPU to use. By default, fah will use as many cores as it sees fit. i...
