I'm running the lxde version of linux mint. I want to connect to my wireless network. What app should I launch? Thanks.

Re: wireless + scrotwm
Hello. In scrotwm there are no icons, menus, or system tray. The only thing we have to search out apps is an app called dmenu. When dmenu is launched, it pulls up a list of all installed apps. I can't find any wireless tools in the menu that would allow me to connect to a network. The two that I tri...

Hello. I'm running the lxde mint flavor on my netbook. To connect wirelessly I click the tray icon, choose my network from the pop-up menu, and enter my password in the gnome keyring dialog box. Re: Linux Mint 8 LXDE RC1 bug thread
To autostart apps in lxde:
1. Create the directory ~/.config/autostart
2. Copy the /usr/share/applications/*.desktop files you want to autostart to this directory. You may need to create some .desktop files if the entries aren't found.

I also like gmusicbrowser. Good sound and not many depends. Another one I really like is aqualung. Not very intuitive but great sound and functionality.

Re: Linux Mint 8 LXDE RC1 bug thread
Sorry I can only remember a little of this. There's a particular file that holds all of the startup apps. To add a startup app, you need to add the .desktop file to that file. Can't remember which file though and I'm not on my lxde install.

If you prefer a gnome-style menu then check this little python script out

Also, it is fairly easy to edit/customize.

Wow! Another icewm fan. Good to see other users taking it seriously. Here's some stuff I've collected over at the antix forums. Hopefully some of it is useful.

Try dragging the firefox .desktop file to your desktop folder. Or do something like this in a terminal
cp /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop ~/desktop

Re: Different panel for Mint 9???
Last I checked aumix hasn't been updated in quite some time. Another thought: Install gkrellm and a plugin to control the volume. You can also get plugins that manage the mounting of devices, etc. There's lots of nice skins out there - one should work well with mint. Also, why not htop? Too geeky? j...

Re: webcam issues
I had a hard time getting my webcam to work. Then I installed guvcview using synaptic and it worked beautifully - no drivers or fancy footwork. Just install and it's ready to work.

open a terminal and run "alsamixer". I've noticed that you need to turn up the volume level on the "front" option.

I thought I read in some other thread that a mint user had some issues with the igelle's licensing?

I have the fluxbox edition running on a gateway netbook. Everything is working quite well and amazingly faster than win 7 starter edition.
