Re: Cant boot after latest update

EDIT: I load default BIOS settings and it worked fine.

Cant boot after latest update
So I updated my box with Mint Mate 19.3 this afternoon and I can no longer get past boot... Not sure what the problem is (I tried 3 different kernels, & recovery mode, I just get stuck at "Loading initial ramdisk...")

Resolution problem/glitch
I created a second user account on MATE 19.1 and I'm unable to change the resolution from 800x600. When I go to Display settings, it says "Monitor:Unknown". Very strange because I do not have this problem in my main (sudo/admin) account, only on this secondary account! Even if i give it ad...

Problem changing Display/Resolution settings
I've been using Linux Mint MATE 19.1 for a while now, no problems, however, today I tried setting up a second user account, and I ran into some glitch/nag: 1. Whenever I 'Switch User' & get to the Login Window, resolution changes from my standard 1600x900 to 800x600. I would like to fix this so ...

Re: Trouble modifying panel under MATE
alright it took some finnagling around but I finally was able to move an icon over to where I wanted. I didn't see there was a little separator on the panel as well, once I unlocked it it got easier. I think I still prefer Xfce mint though, seems a lot easier to modify.

Trouble modifying panel under MATE
for some reason it seems really difficult to modify the panel/taskbar in MATE 19.1 compared to Xfce... I will find an app, select "add to panel", and try to click and drag to move it into place but it doesn't work. Xfce just seems so much easier by using the "modification" mode. ...

Re: Unable to launch application from desktop
Thanks guys but I got it working by simply installing Xterm from Software Manager. Good to know anyway.

Unable to launch application from desktop
I like to create lots of desktop shortcuts to my favorite apps. Recently I tried to add Htop to my desktop on a new Mint MATE 19.1 box, but I get an error when I try to launch it from the desktop that says: There was an error launching the application. Details: Failed to execute child process "...

bootsplash logo changed back
I changed the bootsplash logo on mint 19.1 xfce a while ago for fun (used this method) and it changed back after a recent update. its kind of annoying but is this going to keep happening in the future??

Re: Scratchy/distorted sound in Mint 19.1 xfce
You did the correct edit. As it did not help, now undo it. Then look in Driver Manager (you can find it in your Menu) to see if there's a recommended driver for your video card instead of the nouveau driver. Installing the appropriate driver might solve the issue. I had completely forgot about Driv...

Re: Scratchy/distorted sound in Mint 19.1 xfce
Hi jaakoppi71. This may help: If you're experiencing glitches, skips, pops or crackling in your audio playback, it's quite possibly caused by the timer-based scheduling pulseaudio now uses. Disable timer-based scheduling this way: Users of 18.3 and earlier versions of Mint type this in the terminal...

Scratchy/distorted sound in Mint 19.1 xfce
I was using the onboard sound on this old computer and everything was fine until I added a Geforce graphics card. Now the audio is scratchy/garbled/distorted. I tried changing some settings in Audacious player (switching from PulseAudio Output to ALSA Output) but that didn't seem to fix my problem. ...

Wrong Login Screen Resolution on LM19.1 Xfce
Whenever Mint is at the Login window, the resolution changes to a very low setting. It's ok once I'm at the desktop but this is annoying me. I tried adding a couple lines in etc/default/grub but that didn't seem to do anything. I want the Login Screen to have same resolution as my desktop (1440x900)...

weird graphical glitch
I noticed there is a weird glitch sometimes, like a glitched "line" at the very top of my display, going across horizontally. Happens most frequently when I play this solitaire game at full screen. I am using Cinnamon Maximus extension, not sure if that makes a difference. Only happens ver...

about installing apps, opening security holes, etc.
I was wondering how unsafe it is to install certain apps from software manager? For ex, I have some laptops w/ skype, whatsapp, & other messenger apps installed, from companies I do not trust 100% so they remain uninstalled on my main (desktop) computer. Also, I have ppa purge installed on every...
