Re: Questions about IDE's for Linux.

I would imagine if such a thing exists for any of the main IDEs, it will be referenced by which ever toolkit/framework you want to use (Gtk, Qt, KDE etc). With that in mind, there may be much more information on the websites for those frameworks. Dave's answer is on-point. Forget Swing or JavaFX fo...

Rebase Mint on KDE Plasma - discuss

I pitched this idea a couple of years ago and it wasn't favourite, but I think the landscape has changed so I'm interested in another conversation. Against- - Work involved with rebasing - People may not like something new - KDE (QT) GUI components (controls/indicators) potentially don't look quite ...

Re: I am Looking for a Program

+1 for Asunder. Check the settings carefully after installing. It defaults to ignore errors and not retry, which I assume most people would want to switch.

Re: Which companies offer paid support to Linux newbies using any distribution?

Haven't used Mint in a while, but assuming things haven't changed you can launch Hexchat from the menu and you're sent straight to the Mint support chat group. There are always knowledgable people on there willing to answer your questions. It may not be phone support, but IMO it's superior to anythi...

Installation script for latest Virtualbox 6.1 in Mint 20

Disclaimers: It doesn't uninstall any previous installs of vbox, that's up to you. Only run it once or you'll cause problems with your source list. Use at your own risk. Create a plain text file, copy contents below into it, save as something like 'Install_Vbox_6_1.sh" #!/bin/bash echo "de...

Your title is not conducive to explaining what you're after help with. It's more productive not to combine a rant with a question - post them separately is my advice.

100% Linux. Can't stand Windows - it's alright at work where someone else is in charge of admin - but for home use hell no.

Re: why don't questions get any help?

All sorts of reasons. I haven't seen the post in question but possibilities are: 1) Long rambling post puts people off reading 2) Rants combined with technical questions get less help 3) Nobody with relevant experience saw your post 4) Non-descriptive post title means people don't read it ...plus a ...

Re: The Many Distributions

Hardware support is baked in at the kernel level - not by distribution developers, so the number of distros has ZERO impact on the level of hardware support. Windows has excellent hardware support because hardware manufacturers create Windows drivers for their products. In many instances, they don't...

If you have experience from Ubuntu- Mint's pretty much the same at the command-line level (Ubuntu base.) As for the rest of it I think you will find it second nature.

I haven't tried it, however isn't office 365 a web based application? If so, assuming it's compatible with firefox, shouldn't make any odds what OS it's running on.

Unless you have a specific reason to do otherwise, format to EXT4 for use with Linux as default.

Not sure that's possible, but in any case doesn't Timeshift require its own exclusive partition anyway?

Re: Is it even possible to install another Linux distro to a VM using VirtualBox in Linux Mint FROM USB?

You just create your VM, then run it and it will ask you for an install .iso. Click the folder icon, navigate to the directory containing the iso and you should be able to see it. I've never had any problem. If you can't see your USB, copy the iso to a folder on your machine. Note in case you have m...

Re: Linux Mint logo suggestion

The two are identical in too many minor details (exact proportions, gradients, details of the curves) to be coincidental. If you're not the original creator you should at least acknowledge the source of the work - in fact there is so little difference between the two it would be a bit presumptuous t...
