Zoom app huge on 4K monitor XFCE using scaling

Zoom worked well on XFCE using screen scaling on a 4K monitor. After an update in the fall of 2023, the usual fixes of adjusting AutoScale and ScaleFactor in the zoomus.conf file stopped having any effect in making the image smaller. Anyone know how to make Zoom smaller in XFCE using a scaling facto...

Re: Realtek RTL8761B bluetooth 5 supoort?

OK, it appears that I could upgrade the kernel on this install to the 6.2 series, but there are complications according to what I have read. I found a really simple workaround, however. The Edimax BT-8500 dongle works out of the box with the 5.15 kernel. Just plug and play. The Ugreen with the Realt...

Re: Realtek RTL8761B bluetooth 5 supoort?

OK, thanks for that. I am far from being a Linux guru. Is this going to mess up future updates via the Mint updater app? I tend to stick with LTS releases as stability is more important to me than features. Also, I have found a workaround by using a dongle with a supported chipset. Please let me kno...

Re: Realtek RTL8761B bluetooth 5 supoort?

K. Tks for that. I won't bother wasting any more time on it then. Time to get a PCIe card and put it in the box, I guess. EDIT: I just came across this on Amazon.ca. It claims Linux support, so I have ordered one. I'll report back once it arrives in a few days and I get a chance to try it. Edimax Bl...

[Solved with workaround] Realtek RTL8761B bluetooth 5 supoort?

I am running Mint 21.1 Vera on a recent 6 core i5 desktop. This full-size media PC has no bluetooth support for my bluetooth headphones. I bought a cheap USB dongle from Ugreen (brand X) that uses the RTL8761B chipset. From what I have found, support is supposed to be in the kernel since 5.8, but I ...

Upgrade to 21.3 on XFCE - untrusted application launcher

On each of my machines the upgrade to 21.3 Victoria went well. However, as soon as I tried to use a launcher for any of my programs, I kept getting an error message: untrusted application launcher One can force the program associated with the launcher to run anyway by just clicking that option in th...

@CamJam >Two of several desktop application launchers could no longer be started with the message 'untrusted application launcher'. Clicking on 'make executable' did not solve the problem. Re: Monitor won't shut off

Here is the current pending list. A lot of them cannot have an effect. Your take? The xorg-server and kernel updates would be my guesses. You know you can always revert to this snapshot to get it working, so you can apply all the rest of the updates and see if it still works. If it does, my next re...

Re: Monitor won't shut off

Makes sense to me. It will have to wait until later today, unfortunately, but I will get on it.

Thanks again for the follow-up.

Re: Monitor won't shut off

Here is the current pending list. A lot of them cannot have an effect. I can only guess at ubuntu-advantage-tools if XFCE uses any of those modules for its system applets. Or possibly xorg-server because of it being associated with the video. XFCE uses Gnome pieces, so libxml2? The only other two th...

Re: Monitor won't shut off

Where do you set that timing? I don't use Xfce to know what updates (other than the Nvidia driver) might have come through which could impact this situation. In the Power Manager. I posted a screenshot about 5 or 6 messages further up. I'll post it here again. Driver got rolled back to 515.105.01-0...

Re: Monitor won't shut off

OK, restoring the image from a week ago fixed the problem. The monitor now shuts off when it times out.

So, where do we go from here to stop this from happening again, and which of the 32,000+ files that were rolled back is causing the problem? :D

Re: Monitor won't shut off

OK, I'll try reconnecting the cable, or even replacing it just to be sure.

I have timeshift backups, the oldest one being a week ago. I'll try that.

I'n not sure of alll the options in the backup, however. Here is what I am presented with here below:

Re: Monitor won't shut off

Thanks for the quick response. Please help me sort this out. I know just enough to be dangerous. I would not deduce that from those statements. Okay, here was my thinking. I tried two different Nvidia drivers, and the Nouveau driver, which I assume use different code bases. Same problem with e...

Re: Monitor won't shut off

I can always turn the monitor off manually, but it used to work just fine. I'd rather get it back the way it was. Any suggestions? Timeshift back to a snapshot where it was working. It's my guess you updated the 515 driver and that is what made the change. You can also consider switching to the 525...

Re: Monitor won't shut off

OK, thanks. There is a big telecom merger going on in Canada at the moment where my local ISP is being swallowed up by a national one. Who knows what that may lead to?

Re: Monitor won't shut off

I don't understand this statement. Are you taking Timeshift snapshots when your system is working? If so, you can boot to a live session of Linux Mint and use Timeshift on it to revert your system to a working state. I've never tried that before. I do have it taking snapshots. Thanks for the remind...

Re: Monitor won't shut off

Indeed. There was a driver update, and I suspected that, but thought I would ask first. I HATE changing video drivers because if it fails, I end up at the command line with the system drive unmounted. I'm getting too old for those kinds of shenanigans. Sorry for the late reply, but the forum was off...

[Solved] Monitor won't shut off

I have a Lenovo m93 i5 desktop with a 28" Samsung 28" 4K monitor connected to a recent Nvidia graphics card. The monitor used to time out and shut off after the 15 minutes that I have it set at. All of a sudden, it doesn't shut down anymore, but stays on. If I unplug the HDMI connection, t...
