Re: Linux Mint 20 success or issues

I'm really liking Mint Xfce 20. It's a bit faster on my computers than Cinnamon. I like Cinnamon's menu better than Xfce's, but with The Plank bar, it negates that factor. No problem so far except window sizing, which can be hard to do with the small active corners. https://cdn-thumbs.imagevenue.co...

Re: Just updated to Kubuntu

Anyway, I did another install of Kubuntu 20.04

Not entirely happy with the performance of KDE Plasma on my system.

So a quick reinstall of Mint 20 Cinnamon via Timeshift :-)

Re: Just updated to Kubuntu

If it were me I'd personally go for KDE Neon. I stopped using KDE fairly recently through personal choice but if I wanted to go back I'd use Neon rather than kubuntu. It's a got a fairly minimal package set and therefore less unwanted crud to remove while adding your preferred applications from the...

Re: Just updated to Kubuntu

I have been a satisfied user of Mint18.3 KDE but always with an eye on the 2021 end of life. It was increasingly frustrating to see the really old apps I wanted to try and then I saw good reviews for Kubuntu 20.04.1 I am definitely not a distro hopper but here is the first point release of a LTS ve...

Re: LM 20.0 an utter disaster on less than latest hardware.

I can't say I've had any issues running Mint 20, on either my old Core2Duo E5200 based system (which I use as an HTPC), my old HP Probook 6450b, or my current desktop (AMD A8, 6600K based system)

Re: [TUTORIAL] Mini Itx Ryzen Dual Boot (Win7/Mint) & build guide 2019/2020

Nice build! Looks ideal for an HTPC. Interesting you went for Mint XFCE rather than Cinnamon :-) I used this for the wife's office PC: https://www.asrock.com/nettop/AMD/DeskMini%20A300%20Series/ Pretty small footprint. Stuffed in a 2200g. looking good! My current "HTPC" is my old desktop system, an...

Re: Linux Mint 20 “Ulyana” MATE released!

Previously I've been using Linux Mint Cinnamon on my systems, but found Mint 20 Cinnamon, not quite as slick in use compared to Mint 19.3 Cinnamon. So I thought I'd try Mint 20 Mate on a USB stick instead. Initial impressions seem to be that Mate runs a lot slicker than Cinnamon, on my hardware (AMD...

Re: KDE on linux mint 20

Very interesting!

I must admit I'm in two minds with regards to KDE. Yes, it is flexible, and customisable, but I also find it somewhat overwhelming! But I do fancy a change from Cinnamon, to try to get a bit more speed out of my system...

Re: Hello there, will this be for me?

Linux Mint should be a good match for your needs. My old HP Probook 6450b runs Mint 19.3 Cinnamon without any problems. Might be worthwhile having a look through any computer magazines in shops to see if they have discs of Mint 19.3 for sale. If not it should be possible to buy media for Mint online...

Re: Which is the best Mint?

It has to be Mint Cinnamon for me. Ok, not as customisable compared to KDE Plasma. But it actually give better performance on my hardware, compared to Manjaro 20 KDE! benchmark.jpg :D Anyway, I now have a new GPU, Radeon RX580 with 8gb ram on the way to upgrade from my old GT1030 :D I'll still be st...

Re: Why would I want to use LMDE vs Current LM Cinnamon?

Possibly a silly question, but will Cinnamon 4.6 eventually be installable on LMDE4? At the moment I'm on Mint 19.3 Cinnamon, but not sure whether to go with LMDE4, or Mint 20 Cinnamon. :?:

Re: HOWTO - prevent your Inkjet Nozzles from clogging (mostly)

I've currently got an HP all in one inkjet printer / scanner device. It's a few years old now, but I've ran it with an external CISS system since new. I'll probably be replacing it soon with an A3 photo printer (Again with a CISS system) since I'm now into photography, much more satisfying printing ...

Re: Received New SSD - Would an Expert Help Me Format/Partition/Correctly Install Mint (This time), Please?

Perhaps this article will help ease your mind, MtnDewManiac? https://www.howtogeek.com/322856/how-long-do-solid-state-drives-really-last/ When large-scale flash storage first came to the consumer market as an alternative to conventional hard drives, the biggest concern (aside from price) was longevi...

Re: Received New SSD - Would an Expert Help Me Format/Partition/Correctly Install Mint (This time), Please?

I use a 120gb SSD for my / and /boot partitions. I use a mechanical hard drive (1TB) for my /home partition. When I set up my system with the SSD, I simply created a 512Mb partition for EFI, then the rest of the SSD drive I partitioned for /root. I simply used the partitioning tool on the Mint insta...

Re: Open program directly on a specific workspace

That is an interesting question!

It is doable in KDE Plasma desktop (but that requires running KDE Plasma, which try as I might, I just don't get on with on Kubuntu)

Possibly a feature for a Cinnamon extension or the next release of Cinnamon Desktop?
