fstab won't mount cifs
I am trying to mount a samba share on a local Linux Mint machine. On the server there is no "Server" listed. That seems important, but how do I solve that? [root@server1 samba]# smbclient -L XX.XX.XXX.XX/srv/samba/shared -U rmack Enter WORKGROUP\rmack's password: Sharename Type Comment ---...

Brother MFC-7460 DN won't print.
I installed the Brother MFC-7460 DN network printer (192.168.0.6) in Linux Mint 18 with appsocket/HPjetdirect and it almost works. I can see the printer, its status, and documents are successfully sent. But it won't actually print. What can I do?

Re: Can't access netgear USB drive with fstab or rsync.
Solved! I simply used curlftpfs to mount the ftp share and it was easy!

Can't access netgear USB drive with fstab or rsync.
I have a 2TB USB HD attached to my Netgear WNDR3700v4 router. I use it with readyshare (dlna). I can access the USB device with an FTP program like filezilla or even the gnome file manager. Problem is .. I would like to auto mount it in /etc/fstab and then rsync to it .. but that isn't working. The ...

Re: Error 15: File not found
Nope, didn't work. But after Error 15: File not found Press any key , I see a screen with bright blue letters (and dim gray ones) with duplicate entries. A little background: I bought some fancy Corsair ram from TigerDirect that apparently required a high performance or "gaming board." I a...

Error 15: File not found
I just installed LM 6.0 64-bit and I rebooted and now get this error message: Error 15: File not found . As a workaround, I can press ESC while booting to get to a boot select menu, and there select the appropriate hard drive and it boots fine, after some hesitation. Note that: I have 2 TB sata HDs ...

Not really their fault, you understand.
My email to Foxconn: Problem Subject : Linux unfriendly BIOS Problem Description : I read about your motherboard BIOS being hostile to Linux. As a Linux user and HW consultant, I will be expressly advising my clients to avoid your products, and I will never use another of your products again. Have ...

Check the original link and see what "blowing smoke" in Foxconn's direction has resulted in.lakehousetech wrote:I wasn't disagreeing with any of you whatsoever. I just think that guy did what he could, and to keep sending them emails is blowing smoke up they're asses.

The answer is "no."
I didn't think they were snotty about it. The guy reported the bug to them, but then continued to harass them. Nobody says they have to support Linux. I agree that when it comes down to it they shouldn't have added the half-ass linux code to the rom file to begin with, but they also stated very cle...

Foxconn motherboard(s) BIOS hostile to Linux
Foxconn is pulling this stunt ----> Foxconn deliberately sabotaging their BIOS to destroy Linux ACPI and I emailed a complaint to their tech support. That article is also worth reading for the simplified ( yet risky ) technical material and methods to patch a BIOS in Linux. "They detect Linux, ...

Re: Stuck on virtualbox shared folders
Thanks, Mike! Some of the method worked after I installed Guest Additions. I can browse to the Shared Folders in Windows XP windows explorer Map Network Drive tab, but I can't actually add the Shared Folders . I tried adding other folders, and they similarly, were viewable in the Map Network Drive t...

Re: Borked my nvideo driver install.
Husse: Thank you very much for your reply. Your instructions are a subset of the method listed in the howto / tutorials nvidia driver installation method. sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.09-pkg1.run sudo reboot So I don't have to disable the nv driver to avoid conflicts wit...

I tried your method, but it didn't work. I added the Shared Folder in virtualbox 1.62. Opened XP and went to Devices/Shared Folders, added /home/rmack/ART and tried to map it in Windows XP. System error message: The network path \\vboxsvr\ART could not be found. I also tried run / cmd / net use x: \...

Re: Borked my nvideo driver install.
I'm using Elyssa. I found and quickly installed a reasonable temporary driver with sudo dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/nvidia-glx-new_169.12+2.6.24.13-19.44_i386.deb But I am now unable to run Google Earth and I would dearly love, if possible, to get the newest and fastest genuine NVIDIA driver ( N...

Borked my nvideo driver install.
I tried the method outlined at Howto's/Tutorials " Howto Latest Nvidia Driver (.run) and my Acer AL1917 wide screen monitor is now running at 800x600 resolution instead of its native resolution of 1400x900. Firstly: rmack@multiple ~ $ sudo lspci | grep -i nvidia 01:00.0 VGA compatible controlle...
