Re: Optical Drive Issue (Seagate)

Read head maybe going bad in the DVD. Difference is in the data density of the media, CD is 700MB and DVD is 4.7GB (>6x more dense), so you need more power and better alignment to read DVD. Thank you for your informative reply athi , very much appreciated. Hopefully I should be able to find a suita...

[SOLVED] Optical Drive Issue (Seagate)

Hi everyone, When trying to install LM MATE from my OSDisc.com dvd, onto my old trusted AKOYA/Medion E7216 laptop here, the optical drive made noises similar to a laser head searching for a 'Start Point' on the disc. Before attempting the installation, and as a precaution, I had replaced the origina...

Re: Safety of Linux Mint

Linux Mint is very secure. Even though it may contain some closed code, just like any other Linux distribution that's "halbwegs brauchbar" (of any use). You'll never be able to achieve 100 % security. Not in real life and not in the digital world. Not even when your computer is running Linux. You s...

Re: Firefox for LM 1.0 Shockwave Flash Plugin Issue.

I believe this thread explains how to do it: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=290635 Also I don't think there is any security risk if it is set to Never Activate. But I share your view of wanting to eliminate it. Thank You! polarvortex Your link to the solution was very much apprec...

Re: Right-Click on File/Folder causes black desktop followed by Login screen!

 Re-Installed the OS, but this time with the Linux Mint MATE 64Bit version. Everything appears to be running very well indeed compared to the 32Bit Version. In fact, this 64 Bit version is awesome! :D Why did I install the 32Bit version? We have important software's that were produced for earl...

Re: Right-Click on File/Folder causes black desktop followed by Login screen!

My apologies Flemur, how silly of me to forget to provide that info. I just realized, you also requested another command, which I will go and try to figure out, and then return it here instead of the format which I have just removed. Being a refugee from Microsoft and trying to fit in here, i...

Re: Suitable Graghics Card for Cinamon 19.1 32Bit

Hi Pjotr, Carried out all your instructions but the issues still remain, albeit not quite as severe as they were beforehand. It has also taken a few days/nights trying 3 different types of VGA cards that are able to fit into this small computer cabinet of mine, but none of them prevent the; "Running...
