Re: Mint and Chrome and no swap

It's actually completely illogical to assume that the installer will inform you of probable bad decisions on your part, like that one. There's an ancient saying in the computer world, that data always multiplies to fill available storage. It was true in the 1950s and still is. As mentioned if you'r...

Re: Linux doesn't support AMD Turbo Core Technology on APU ?

The driver I had with 18.1 was AMD Microcode, I remember now, I found the name somewhere these days by chance With 19.1 the system set itself with no proprietary driver amd-microcode is not a driver at all, it's firmware for the cpu. It only shows up in driver manager because it's proprietary code ...

Re: Mint and Chrome and no swap

Yes ok thanks but it may be long to conclude doing this because It is quite rare when I have to use Chrome at its maximum capacities and so disabling all this features all the time for an event which occurs once a week or two weeks ... that's also why it took me time to answer this. For example now ...

Re: Mint and Chrome and no swap

Even for a known memory hog like Chrome, occupying almost 8 GB of memory would be really a lot memory. And if Chrome really can be proven to do so, would this not be a reason to blame Chrome rather than Linux Mint? You are right, I examined the tasks and when my RAM is 100% occupied I have in fact ...

Re: Cloning system drive - is it worth it?

Hi I am using Clonezilla Live on USB Stick for 10 years Just press Enter 6 or 7 times and then it lists the volumes. What is complicated is to understant that it first requires a place for the Image to be saved then you will have to chose "Simple" mode then "device image" and then partition save or ...

Re: Mint 19.1 Cinnamon updates

As I have tried to explain Picasa opens every folder, even folders within folders, so every single photo is displayed on the right hand panel. To find a single photo you are looking for you just have to scroll down the thumbnails, right click on it on "locate on Disc" and you get the location. That...

Re: Standard user or Admininstrator?

In Mint, for most users and usercases, sticking to the defaults works pretty well most of the time. 8) Is this not the exact contrary of the subject of this thread ? If I manage my activity as you write so I use sudo widely on my account which runs an infected internet browser and then it picks up ...

Re: Standard user or Admininstrator?

Re: Sudo group and security

About this last point I just read this Is it more secure to log in as someone other than the administrator? 8. No. In Windows, it's better for security to log in as another user than the administrator. But not so in Linux Mint. In Linux Mint, this issue has been solved neatly: even the administrator...

The fact that Linux Mint propose it is a very good reason Where does Linux Mint suggest to install and run without any swap space? As far as I remember the Linux Mint installer defaults to creating a swap device or on Mint 19.x a swapfile and to configuring the newly installed system to use it. and...

Re: Sudo group and security

OK what I read confirm that we must have a special account reserved to most important online actions as bank, shops etc but we could use sudo on it with a limited risk On the other hand we must absolutely avoid to use sudo on an account that is exposed to malwares. It is more clear but i was in the ...
