Re: New theme color issues after running full-upgrade!

Just wanted to add that this really seems to affect only Mint-Y-Dark* themes (all of them). Also Mint-Y-Darker* themes are not right, but they just don't seem to be dark at all - I have now changed to Adwaita-Dark theme and it seems to work correctly.

New theme color issues after running full-upgrade!

There were some minor problems after I ran the upgrade from 19.2 to 19.3, but after the last sudo apt dist-upgrade . After I did that I noticed new problems with GUI elements, basically I have a dark theme and suddenly buttons, text-fields, drop down menus (not when you "drop" them open), ...

How to try and mount an encrypted filesystem inside a file?

I hid an encrypted filesystem in my DosBOX C:\WINDOWS\WIN386.SWP (win 3.1 was installed there, but just so that the filename was for real and in such place where it's unlikely anyone would look). Badly enough I found that file, but not a memo where I wrote the mount command... There was no FUSE and ...

Re: Xorg CPU use is through the roof after updating to Mint 19.3

I was writing this message when I actually found the culprit for this. I've included what I had written before I suddenly got an idea and found what was putting strain on Xorg, but I moved the part about suddenly found the thing from the end of the message to right below (rest of what I wrote follow...

Xorg CPU use is through the roof after updating to Mint 19.3 [SOLVED]

Hi all! :) I recently upgraded my Linux Mint Xfce 19.2 install to 19.3 and after that I've seen constant heavy CPU usage which causes delays with everything, even simple cursor movements have become jumpy and slow - yet I can still use my browser even to watch FullHD videos. The slowdown mostly affe...

Re: Why can't I find and install Midori browser with APT even though it's available from Mint Community pages?

Yeah, I tried Epiphany too... The thing is, I'm looking for a lightweight browser to run on an older machine, but Epiphany just wasn't lean enough - I know browsers that are, but they lack so much in features and I'm trying to find the "sweet spot" browser for this particular computer, on...

Re: Why can't I find and install Midori browser with APT even though it's available from Mint Community pages?

Thank you - I will try that next :) Have you read the reviews in that site you linked to first? I wouldn't touch it after reading them. I did and they were inconclusive for me - so I will evaluate it myself, that's the only way I can see if it's good enough for the guy I'm doing this for (it's not ...

Re: Why can't I find and install Midori browser with APT even though it's available from Mint Community pages?

As Joe says. Note that even Bodhi Linux has dumped Midori, and replaced it by Epiphany in the bèta of its upcoming 5.1 release. Yeah, I tried Epiphany too... The thing is, I'm looking for a lightweight browser to run on an older machine, but Epiphany just wasn't lean enough - I know browsers that a...

EDIT: The Midori website appears to have .deb archives for download, so that (to me) would be preferred over Snap options. https://www.midori-browser.org/
Thank you - I will try that next :)

Why can't I find and install Midori browser with APT even though it's available from Mint Community pages?

I was looking for Midori browser and found nothing through 'sudo apt search midori', but it seems to be available for install from https://community.linuxmint.com/software/view/midori - there's an install button on that webpage, but since I'm not sure how that works from the browser I didn't want to...

Re: gksu removed from the repo's of Ubuntu 18.04

Still, what would I use to replace gksudo? I mean, I have a script that is meant to be driven from GUI, and it uses gksudo to provide GUI window for asking password, then for the rest of the commands needing root priviledges it uses plain sudo, because the sudo permissions should remain for some ti...

Re: gksu removed from the repo's of Ubuntu 18.04

We don't need no stinkin' gksu. We Linux desktop users have an understandable feeling of superiority over those poor Windows and macOS users. You can't feel superior if you are part of the majority. Removing gksu and making all of those HowTo's out there that specify it's use useless is just a way ...

Re: gksu removed from the repo's of Ubuntu 18.04

Why is this a problem? With the default menu entries in Cinnamon synaptic and gparted get called via xxx-pkexec, MintUpdate simply via mintupdate. There is no gksu in game, and how should this be used at all, as the root password is empty, in Ubuntu since ever, in Mint since 18.2? You know the root...

Re: gksu removed from the repo's of Ubuntu 18.04

You're mistaken; this is in fact good and welcome news! It should be celebrated that Ubuntu (finally) reached this milestone. gksu hasn't been maintained for many years and was only left to rot in the Ubuntu repository because some programs unfortunately still depended on it. Such programs have bee...

Re: gksu removed from the repo's of Ubuntu 18.04

Just upgraded from 18.3 to 19 and this particular feature is gone. And I need it badly. open .bashrc and at the bottom add these lines: alias gksu=pkexec alias pkexec='pkexec env DISPLAY=$DISPLAY XAUTHORITY=$XAUTHORITY' Still, what would I use to replace gksudo? I mean, I have a script that is mean...

Re: gksu removed from the repo's of Ubuntu 18.04

What, this is not good! pkexec seems to be just a su-replacement, while I want a GUI sudo -equivalent. I wrote a script that used sudo twice, replaced the first with gksudo , so the script launched from desktop would ask password once, then the second command would just run, since the permission was...

Re: linuxmint crashes and freezes constantly

On several Fujitsu laptops I found a trick that might work for you too: Edit /etc/default/grub Edit line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" by adding these to parameters: i8042.notimeout i8042.nomux Run sudo update-grub reboot Note that some Fujitsu models I've used this with still...
