Re: Duplicate Files Search

The goal is to see if the files found on the DVD still remain on the hard drive. Anywhere on the hard drive because when the DVD was produced files were collected from multiple directories. Not just home. I have a special directory where archival files are found. Intent is to purge old stuff that ha...

Duplicate Files Search

Here is a bit of a twist. Have several DVDs with various files. Would like to search the hard drives to see if any files match those on the DVD. I want to restrict the search to only those files already named on the DVD. FSLINT comes up with duplicates anywhere of any name. Can this be done? Command...

Samsung Galaxy Tab A

US outlet COSTCO has this model on sale for $169.99 which has me toying with the thought of buying my first tablet. Curious if any owners of this device can report in general about it and more specifically how well it connects to machines with Linux Mint installed. I've avoided Apple iPads as friend...

Thanks. That clarifies the issue for me.

Re: End of KDE

All other editions of Linux Mint 18.x just use the Ubuntu repositories for installing and updating KDE packages. Does this mean that although I am using Linux Mint I'll still be able to use Kmymoney if it remains available in the correct Ubuntu series repositories? Which hopefully would also provid...

Re: End of KDE

Dropping the KDE edition doesn't impact availability of KDE programs in the repositories. You can still install KDE programs on the other editions, same as now. My system has long been a hybrid. Mate being the DE but I've included a few KDE apps along the way. Two I consider essential; Kmymoney and...

Wireless router with website filtering

Last year I obtained an Archer C1200 wireless router. Seems I got a lemon. Any blip in the power and all settings get lost. Now I have another need which this current device seems incapable of fulfilling. Website filtering. The router is being used by a friend who also has need of a router based web...

Re: Korganizer adding ics calendars

Hi "chiefjim", Are you using Linux Mint 18.2 Cinnamon? "Korganizer" is a excellent KDE PIM application, so you would have to install "kdepim" or "kde-pim" and "kde-runtime" (the latter might be installed with kdepim automatically) to get it working ...

Korganizer adding ics calendars

Working with Mint 18.2 CIN. Has anyone figured out how to get Korganizer to import ics calendar files? Been about a year since I last tried.

Also downloaded mine direct. Under TOOLS, OPTIONS I had to select Texture Colors, True Color 32 bit and I have checked Compress.

Works fine

Re: What uses this?

You can also try to remove a package in synaptic and see what else it wants to remove, i.e., the packages which depend on it. Not much to go on. Just two items showing as installed. MariaDB common metapackage MariaDB is a fast, stable and true multi-user, multi-threaded SQL database server. SQL (St...

Re: What uses this?

the above post gives the terminal command. But on my install of 18.2 mate. mariadb is not installed. It's a data base program and should not need updating unless you've got some sort of database server in use. This is what I see: jim@jim-MS-7817 ~ $ apt-cache rdepends mariadb E: No packages found j...

What uses this?

A curiosity question. In the updates today was mariadb. "MariaDB is a fast, stable and true multi-user, multi-threaded SQL database server. SQL (Structured Query Language) is the most popular database query language in the world. The main goals of MariaDB are speed, robustness and ease of use. ...

I've been using a Brother HL-2170W since May 2008. One of the best computer related purchases I've ever made.

Found the biggest savings in selecting the high yield toner. Not much more in cost for getting more printed pages.

Re: Where is Opera

Try Vivaldi, the best web browser, a fork of Opera. Not actually a fork of Opera, I think. Former Opera employees, perhaps even the Opera founder, left Opera and started Vivaldi with the intent of keeping all the best features of the old Opera that aren't in the new Opera. But who knows how much so...

Re: run pc off external hard drive?

Your proposed setup is quite like what I have running here. My external drives utilize USB docking stations. Durability is limited to the quality of the power supplies used by those docking stations. So far no problems. The choice of brand and size drives to use was mine. My box uses USB 3 so speed ...

Hi samriggs, I'll have to check out your suggestions. Thanks for those. A lot of people suggest the online version of TurboTax, but unfortunately, it ends up costing me more than purchasing the software. What I've never found when researching the online versions is the degree of documentation you c...
