Re: "In the old days we...."

A bit off topic. But in researching the Iomega Zip 250 MB USB External Drive , I indirectly ran across 3.5" USB External Floppy Disk Drive Portable 1.44 MB FDD . I didn't know such a product was available! Allows " new " computers to use " old " floppies by using a USB cable...

Re: "In the old days we...."

Iomega Zip 250 MB USB External Drive. Zip drives were floppies, and originally think they were 100MB with a parallel interface. I was using them in the late 90's early 00's for backup. I know they were floppy because I took several apart to make sure they were completely destroyed - they had sensit...

Re: "In the old days we...."

At one time, I had an Iomega Zip 250 MB USB External Drive . Despite it appearing similar to a "hard drive ", I believe (if I remember correctly) it was actually equivalent to a " tape drive ". I spent big $$ buying the " disks " for back-up. That reminds me of my overa...

Re: "Cannot connect to scanner" after upgrade to Mint 20 [Solved]

@davidaddy. I don't have a solution for your CanoScan LiDE 400 issue, as I don't have that scanner. However, if you look here CanoScan LiDE 400 Sane implies that it is a supported scanner. You will have to follow-up from there.

Re: Nvidia-340 driver crashes cinnamon

Sorry I could not help. For future reference for those that have a " new " Asus motherboard. Disable ASUS Motherboard's UEFI secure boot . As the website notes, turning off secure boot on an Asus motherboard is not directly obvious. Most new ASUS motherboards do not have the option to let ...

Re: Nvidia-340 driver crashes cinnamon

I am currently running Mint 20 with Cinnamon. I had this problem, so I switched to Nouveau. (I have a ASUS-GT630 video card installed, which you can say is not currently being used) I read in one post, cannot remember where, that " secure boot " had to be turned off before the Nvidia drive...

Re: Database

Where to begin with a response? Your question raises many other questions that would have to be examined too. This goes beyond something that can simply be answered in one thread. You don't identify what database you are intending to use. I will assume Base, as that what comes with LibreOffice. The ...

Re: Thoughts on HP Linux Imaging and Printing Drivers (HPLIP)

Ironically, I saw a concurrent thread where a person was having an issue with HPLIP and seems to have restored the printer to working condition without HPLIP.

Re: Thoughts on HP Linux Imaging and Printing Drivers (HPLIP)

To clarify, HPLIP has not been installed since I moved to Mint. Since printing is working, as expected, there isn't much point in installing HPLIP, but worth checking with the community for feedback. Thanks.

Thoughts on HP Linux Imaging and Printing Drivers (HPLIP)

Prior to switching to Mint, I had previously used HPLIP on Ubuntu 16.04. Since moving to Mint 20, I have not used HPLIP. A new version of HPLIP has now been released. HP Linux Imaging and Printing Drivers Now Support Linux Mint 20 and openSUSE Leap 15.2 . My printing needs have been " light &qu...

Re: Serial ports and where to find them.

This post looked worth looking into. First, there is a USB to Serial adapter in existence. So that resolves one issue assuming that there is no actual serial port/card installed. The next issue is getting that USB port to be recognized as either COM1 or COM2. I've run across some information on how ...

Re: Blu ray player?

I was able to play a Blu-Ray disk, circa 2016, using VLC on Mint 20. FYI. One Blu-Ray disk did not play. That problem is expected as not all Blu-Ray disks have been decrypted. Install libaacs0 (version 0.9.0-2) from Synaptic. A newer version is available here: https://www.videolan.org/developers/lib...

I read it, but obliviously not fully comprehending. :?: In that case I'm sorry, because I can't make this difficult matter clearer than that.... I never understood how this works myself. The way I interpret what Pjotr's site has is this: When you delete the first snapshot (while newer snapshots exi...

Well, I'm almost tempted to think that you didn't (entirely? carefully?) read my clarification on my website/blog. Because it's exactly that, what I try to explain there with an analogy....

How can you delete the initial, full-sized backup while leaving the incremental backups restorable? Is there any documentation on how this works? This is my attempt to clarify this: https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.com/p/clean-mint.html#ID7 (item 7) I am still having a concern with this. In yo...

Yea!!! :D :D LibreOffice, from the " fresh " PPA upgraded to version 7.0.1.2 today!! That's good news from the perspective of not having to play around with the PPA configurations. The upgrade, eventually happens. In this case, approximately 6 weeks. That answered my question. As an experi...
