Re: LM Cinnamon 19.2 takes 90s to shutdown - 17.3 immediate

Hi, First thing I would try would be to see if you have any apps, applets or extensions that you have ported over from 17.3 that don't get on very well with 19.2. Before you shut down, kill some of the smaller running programs (run 'top' in terminal) and see if that makes a large difference. First t...

Re: Linux Mint 18.3 No Longer Works after Laptop Battery Died

HI,
Is it possible that Timeshift has done its default backup without you knowing about it?
Can you open Timeshift and find out? - Just in case.

Re: Difference between Timeshift Snapshot and Backup

Hi, As Larry says, it is up to you. I'm sure many others ppl will post with their backup regimes also. So, Mine are Timeshift - set to every boot and daily and keep a few. No point for me to keep monthly Timeshift. Lucky backup - you can configure what folders to backup and when and where to. (whene...

Re: Luks ok: No entry to Mate

There is a way to change the password which may or may not help you - but it seems the primary issue is the 160GB of data. If you boot up to Live DVD/USB Mint, you'll be able to mount the data disk and an external disk to get your data (as long as its not encrypted). That is what I would do first (a...

[SOLVED] If software is installed prior to using PPA, is there a problem?

Hi, If, for example, I have Firejail installed and have configured Firefox to run within the sandbox, then decide for whatever reason to add the PPA for Firejail to the Update Manager, is that the correct order to do it, or should we.... -add the PPA before installing the software and let the Update...

Re: Mass file copies stall a lot going to USB

Hi, You haven't said what your hardware or OS is, but if you are plugging anything into a USB2 port there may be a power issue (as in not enough). Also, are you dragging/dropping or copy/paste or CLI copying? Are you using USB hubs (powered or not powered or ebay specials (the unbranded ones where y...

Re: Problem when I shut down Linux mint 19.1

Also, if it is happening 'sometimes', can you find a link between some applications you are running at the time of shutdown when the problem occurs, and when it doesn't?
Are you using Samba, or FTP, or is anything encrypted on your drive?

Re: Problem defaulting to Thunderbird

Why would something that was set up correctly all along be solved by a restart? I have now done two restarts with no change on the problem. Maybe there was a Chrome udate? Maybe a setting was changed by an itchy finger? Who knows? Go into Chrome and see if you can find a setting that relates to 'ma...

Application to multiboot DVD?

Hi, I know there are applications like multibootusb for USB, and they work well, but out of interest......... Which application would you recommend to do the same but to burn to DVD? I would like to put a few bootable applications on it such as Fix Grub, Clonezilla, DBan, etc etc and it would be goo...

Re: Problem defaulting to Thunderbird

Try a reboot and see if it is ok.
Also, what browser do you use?
In Firefox, for instance, you can choose where to point 'mailto'.

Re: Freezes, stuttering youtube vids and blinking capslock.

Hi, At a guess, if its happening in two different operating systems on the same hardware, then the hardware, or the BIOS settings are at fault. First thing I would try is vacuuming out the vents to the laptop - or if you have some to hand, some canned air - do this outside as you'll be surprised the...

Hi, What exactly defaults to Xfinity? Also, for your own sake, stop leaking data (if it is as you have written). For instance, (if it is as you have written), anyone can see your name, ISP, the state you live, and probably there are other places (idiotbook/twitter etc) where anyone who gave a toss c...

Re: Web problem with Fedex under Firefox browser

Hi,
These email notifications - just to make sure - are they from or to Fedex?
What version for Firefox are you using?
What plugins have you got enabled?
When did they last work?
Do you remember doing anything to Firefox, such as changing addons/extensions, upgrades etc?
