Re: USB stick read only

If we concentrate on one drive at a time then we can go from there.....

Shove the 32GB drive in again.
Go to Disks.
Click on the larger partition.
Click on the cog.
Click on 'Edit Mount Options'
The top slider.... User Session Defaults - turn off.

Once you've done that, what is highlighted?

Re: Firefox already running on startup.Reboot.Now blank screen

Ok, it was worth a go.

You can try a 'system repair' also by booting into live disk and running the following command from terminal.

Code: Select all

fsck -y /dev/sdX
Where X=your system drive (most likely but not definitely, a )

Re: Wine, playonlinux or not worth the hassle?

I would think if it is only 1 app you need, it should be easy to find some alternatives you can try out. google "alternatives to ............." Try them out, if you like them scrap windows. If you don't, remove them and try another. If you exhaust all the alternatives, then either dual boot or VM so...

Re: Timeshift insufficient disk space

Can you check that Timeshift isn't trying to save to one of your smaller partitions. If it is change it to the larger partition - (it will need to be formatted with EXT4) Also, it would be worth making another partition specifically for Timeshift snapshots or make sure to do backups and manual Times...

Re: Firefox already running on startup.Reboot.Now blank screen

Don't know what the problem is but you will probably be able to fix it quite easily IF you have Timeshift enabled.
If you boot to your Live USB Mint again, then run Timeshift and RESTORE snapshot - choose one a few days ago.
Post back if that works or not.

Re: fresh install won't boot

Well, now I've made it worse. I ran boot-repair off of the live session. At the end, there was a message to go to the Windows command prompt and enter bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path \EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi After rebooting, I can't get into Windows anymore. However, I still can get into Windows from th...

Re: Thunderbird Mail: bad image quality in displayed attachments

Right, thank you. I'm not going to bother with that. No you're right. It was only if you thought that the picture had been changed which it hasn't. I tried to see earlier on if I had the same issue but I use Nomacs as the default jpeg viewer. If you go into file manager and right click a picture - ...

Re: Thunderbird Mail: bad image quality in displayed attachments

As I'm sure you've looked throught the settings etc, the only one I can find that might make a difference is Settings/Advanced/General/'Hardware Acceleration'. Also - is it only one email account that shows the low def image or all accounts in Thunderbird? The hash = MD5 or whatever your preference ...

Re: Thunderbird Mail: bad image quality in displayed attachments

So, if you email a picture to yourself, download it to your hard drive, then open the picture up in an image viewer, checking the resolution/colours and possibly a hash, has the picture been changed?
I know you said it happened in Preview but just checking it is just preview.

Re: win denied access to hdd used with linux

I'm not sure what a hard drive cassette is. Assuming it is a caddy with a hard drive in it? If so, when you use Win10, you may have to shut it down completely rather than sleep/suspend/hibernate as it could lock the files. Hopefully its as simple as that. If not, then post back and will go through p...
