Re: Latest Chromium "upgrade"...
Just got the update and not a lot different from the last version for me except the little conical flask offering 3 other features, of which one I might take them up on (saving tabs)

I'm using Chromium Version 123.0.6312.58 (after new update today) and uBlock Origin 1.56.0 and works fine for me.

Re: Seeking HOWTO select minimum install from full download ISO
1) Don't think you can easily. Try different distro or xfce. Or install with persistence, uninstall the software you don't want. Not sure Ventoy (see below) supports persistence. 2) Try Ventoy. Once it is set up you can just copy over .iso images and when you boot from the usb drive it comes up with...

Re: seeking HOWTO get android phone notifications at Mint 21.3 desktop
Unless someone posts back with better ideas, you could try KDE Connect. Not sure exactly what notifications you'll be able to get though and it would be through KDE (if it does work) rather than the DE. Doing a quick search in F-Droid brings up a few nice things that may or may not work - at least t...

Re: Recover Deleted File on USB HDD
Sometimes. Don't use the drive at all till you are ready to run recovery. Obviously(?) What file system is on the drive? If it is NTFS or FAT, I would recommend using Windows recovery software on a friend's Windows (getdataback or similar.) You could try Testdisk/Photorec (from repository) if you ha...

Can you go to Menu, System Reports.
Click the System Information tab on the left.
Click 'Copy' at the bottom.
In your reply, paste the info and 'Submit' the info.
What did you upgrade from. Was it definitely an upgrade or a new install or an update?

Also have you rebooted a few times and got the same result?

Welcome to the forums. Your English seems fine to me. Better than my Russian. If you are in Cinnamon, go the Menu and type in keyboard the Keyboard app will come up and you can make shortcuts in there. There are some shortcuts already there and they are easy to change. Are there any specific ones yo...

Re: Confusion .... What don't I understand ?
Depends on how pedantic we are trying to get. Most people understand that Apple and Microsoft are different, but then we are also talking the difference between hardware and software - so people in the latter camp might not actually understand what an operating system is. A lot of people I know swit...

Re: Confusion .... What don't I understand ?
To add to what Spamegg said, Yes, but also people should be aware that a different operating system will be 'different' - doesn't matter whether you swap to/from Windows etc. Should they be made aware before installing a new OS. or does everyone assume that people just know that? It might not be tha...

Sometimes. Can you use the OS clone of device 1 for device 2?
Depends how different the hardware is - if you have loaded specific drivers etc. Mostly might be a problem between NVidia and non-NVidia or some wifi hardware.
Try it and see - what do you lose? A half hour?

Do you mean that you need to type in the password?
When you open update manager, if there are updates and you click to install them, it brings up a password box. Is that what you mean?

Re: Suspected worm on home network
misbehaving Could you be a little more specific? Probably best place to start would be your router. If you turn off every device that is connected to it apart from your computer - can you see what connections your router is making? If so, subtract the ones that your computer might be trying to make...

Re: Confusion .... What don't I understand ?
Excellent.
As you have seen, Linux (and especially Mint) is all about choice.
No one will tell you what you MUST or MUST NOT have.
If you have any other more specific questions, probably best to start a new thread.
Good luck.

Re: Confusion .... What don't I understand ?
Welcome to the forums. I don't run any programs by the companies you mention (although there is a time and a place to use them if and when I want to) and I'm sure many others don't either. What is it exactly you are wanting to do with your computer? Word processing, games, etc? You don't say what yo...

Re: Upgrading to LM21.3 Virginia
Unfortunately my upgrade (not a new install) to 21.3 didn't go too well. On rebooting after going through the fast upgrade process (4 or 5 minutes tops), the taskbar had disappeared. No Mint menu etc. At least could double click on icons that were on desktop and could rightclick to get into Terminal...

Re: How to find messages that flash past too quickly to read when booting?
+1 to above 2 answers. You'll worry yourself to sleep if you start looking at those messages. Mostly they are the machine looking for hardware/configurations/other magical items, not finding it (because it isn't there), and telling itself that it hasn't found that item so it can continue to the next...

Re: USB external disc recommendation
If you are backing up from an internal SSD, then I'd recommend getting an SSD external drive - you'll notice the difference if you have a USB 3.2 port on your motherboard you can get to. However - you don't say what hardware you have so if you have an internal spinny drive you are transferring to/fr...

Re: Irfanview in Mint 20.1
I completely empathise with you. IrfanView is the only software I really miss and I don't want to install WINE so it is tough luck on me. Have you tried KolourPaint? I end up using a couple of different programs to replace IV. What version of Wine are you using and how did you install it? What versi...
