AMD Video Drivers, worth the trouble to install?

I finally got the video card in for the computer I built, it uses an AMD RX 580 chipset. My other computers either used the onboard graphics built into the AMD processor or a video card using an Nvidia chipset. Is it worth the trouble to install the AMD drivers? I'm not really going to play games, j...

Re: Switching cpu without reinstalling linux?

I've done it several times, and have never run into a problem, the BIOS complains that you have changed the processor and you lose any changes to the BIOS prior to installing the new processor, but that's it. If your motherboard is old, I would suggest you upgrade the BIOS before you install the new...

Re: Odd Bluetooth problem

Well, I figured out what was wrong, the Bluetooth speaker was connecting to the cell phone in my pocket. I took the speaker off the list of connected devices on the cell phone, and it connects to the new computer.

Odd Bluetooth problem [SOLVED]

I built another computer, and I have a Bluetooth problem. I have a Bluetooth speaker, a Bugani M89, it worked fine on my old computer, but on the new computer, it connects but it's identified in Bluetooth Devices as "Realtek Bluetooth" and doesn't show up at all in Sound Settings. This mor...

Re: nVidia 535 driver?

If you are on the 525 driver, and it's working for you, take Termy's advice and skip the 535 driver. There are issues with the installation, and if you manage to get it installed, there are issues with it's operation, in my case the top inch on my monitor would flash black at random intervals, drove...

Sometimes, actually more times I care to admit, I can be very unintelligent, and this was one of those times. Please accept my apology and disregard. :)

Why is it so hard to get Dolby 5.1 out of Linux? [never mind]

It's frustrating as heck, I have tried everything I could find on how to get Dolby 5.1 out of Linux Mint, and a few other versions, and every one of them failed, some to the point where I just had to reinstall. It could have been me, simply because I was trying to do something that I barely understo...

Re: latest nvidia-drivers(535) not working correctly.

I have two nearly identical computers here and both of them gave me the black screen when update manager installed the 535 driver. The first one when I rebooted it inxi said that the driver wasn't installed, so I went to Driver Manager, but it told me to run "sudo dpkg --configure -a" whic...

Disabling the "tap to click" feature on a Logitech K400 Plus? [SOLVED]

On my computer downstairs I have a wireless Logitech K400 Plus keyboard with a touchpad, The problem I'm having is that the touchpad is too sensitive, it thinks that I am clicking when all I'm trying to do is move the mouse cursor from one place to another. I think the touchpad identifies as a mouse...

Re: Processor question

Thanks, I think I'll leave the 3300X right where it is. I have an Asrock B550 motherboard that has been lounging around in it's box for quite some time, I'll put the 4100 in that.

Processor question

I have a computer that has an MSI motherboard with a B550 chipset, presently it has a Ryzen 3 3300X processor installed in it. I have just acquired a Ryzen 3 4100, would it be worth my while to replace the 3300X? Right now, the computer is running just fine, but what would I gain or lose? I know tha...

Well, where the cards mount on the back of the case is recessed, so she can't get to the push button switch easily.

Re: Pet Cat Problem

Thanks for your replies, but I came up with a solution, I had a few of those card slot filler things, I'm not sure what they are called, but the piece of metal that is used to fill the opening in a case when you remove a card, anyway, I drilled a hole in one of those, mounted a push button switch in...

Pet Cat Problem [Solved]

The case on my computer was getting beat up, so I thought I would replace it. The new case has one drawback, the On/Off button is on the top of the case, and the Cat, being the attention hound that she is, has figured out that if I'm working on the computer, and she wants my attention, will jump up ...

Re: Hacking contest Pwn2Own: Ubuntu, Tesla, macOs and Windows 11 cracked

So, for this exploit to work on Ubuntu, the person has to have physical access to the computer, and have an authorized user and password. Unless they break into my house, they aren't going to get it. So, can someone please explain to me why I should be worried about this?

Re: Do you have a cheap Android tv box? Does it support EXT4?

I have two of them, but they both run Android 9, and neither one will read EXT 4 media. I'm thinking of scrapping both of them, supposedly there is a new one that is running Android 11 Go that is relatively inexpensive and if I can find it, I'll share the info with you.

Cloudfare Secure Connection Check while using Cruncyroll on Vivaldi

I like to watch anime, and I mostly go to Cruncyroll to stream it using Vivaldi, lately I've been getting these Cloudfare secure connection checks, it will show up in the middle of something I'm watching, do a check and then a box appears that I must check to prove I'm human. (Some people would say ...
