No wireless on EEE PC 1015N (Broadcom 4131 card)
I'm not picking up any wireless networks on my Eee PC while using LMDE. Wired internet works just fine. I've tried installing the packages firmware-b43-installer and broadcom-sta with no changes. I tried using the windows network driver tool to install the windows driver from asus.com and it tells m...

Primary Monitor?
I have two monitors connected right now. I'd prefer to do most of my work on the larger monitor and move stuff to the smaller monitor when I need to. My GNOME panel shows up on the larger monitor exactly how I want to to be and when I launch programs from there they show up on the larger monitor. Wh...

Re: Problem with compiz/cube desktop
http://www.jejik.com/articles/2008/10/how_to_properly_start_compiz_in_gnome/ In virtually every compiz tutorial you read on the net you will find the following advice on starting compiz when you log in: Open System -> Preferences -> Sessions and add “compiz --replace” to the startup programs list. T...

I guess I asked for help too soon. After a reboot it started working.

Update Manager not updating
Installed LMDE after a bit of a hiatus from Linux. I changed my sources to point to debian.linuxmint.com instead of debian.org and installed the update to Update Manager. Now I have a big list of updates to install. When I click install a window pops up showing a list of additional packages that wil...

Re: Lmde Dual boot
Yeah I saw those posts already. Quite informative if you're doing a single boot but I just couldn't figure out how to translate that into a dual boot system. I know windows can be pretty picky about where it is on the disk. I bookmarked the thread on installing to a USB drive but I don't think that'...

Re: Lmde Dual boot
Yikes. This is a lot trickier to dual boot than Mint 10. I could have sworn the last version of LMDE was a little more automated than this. Here is what I have so far. Could someone take a look and let me know if I'm right? I've seen mention of a /boot partition but I'm not sure where that would go ...

Re: Romeo + Mint Debian?
The icon next to Menu is now sort of a black sun instead of the Mint leaf. Any idea how to fix this?
One other thing that isn't related. I noticed now that the splash screen that comes up on log in has a debian background instead of Mint.

Re: I've had a Testing-moment.
Is there some way to get the cool new toys from Mint 10 in LMDE?
EDIT: Just discovered the Romeo repository. I'm guessing that's it.

Re: Linux Mint 10 "Julia" released!
Very nice. I'm having issues with Compiz not working though. I'm running LM10 as a guest in Virtualbox 3.2.10. I have installed the Guest Additions and enabled 3D in the settings and it's still not working. Any advice? I had no problems getting it to work in LM9. Try running compiz --replace in ter...

Re: Running Scripts at startup
I found a much better way to accomplish what I was trying to do by following this guide but I'm still curious how to run stuff on startup.

Running Scripts at startup
I'm trying to get Compiz working on my machine. Every time I start up I don't have all the cool compiz effects like wobbly windows and the desktop cube until I do compiz --replace or reload it with compiz fusion icon. I found this script but I'm having trouble getting it to run on boot. I saved it a...

Stopping the XServer
I'm trying to install the drivers from nvidia's website and it complains that xserver is still running. I did some poking around and found reference to using or yet neither of these work.
What's the current way of doing this?
Code: Select all
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
Code: Select all
sudo service gdm stop
What's the current way of doing this?

Re: Unable to resolve host
Ah, I see. I was changing it in hosts but not hostname. There were actually fewer problems than I expected. Aside from the shortcuts I mentioned, sudo gedit would still run gedit with permissions after complaining and other programs like firefox ran just fine.

Unable to resolve host
I noticed today that I could no longer seem to open some programs with their shortcuts that required super user like Synaptic Package Manager or right clicking a file and opening as an administrator (I'm not sure if I'm phrasing this right, excuse my noobness). I also noticed every time I used sudo ...

Re: Compiling Problems
There doesn't appear to be a configure or make install script in this program.
