Re: The status of Mint Fluxbox CE

HI Kendall. :) First, Kudos to you and whoever else is behind this release. Nice job indeed. Haven't installed on a machine yet (Although will be doing so over the next few days) but i have installed in VirtualBox, and it's running very well. Haven't found any probs at all yet, and all in all i real...

Re: usb devices only mounted or recognized during startup

Hey, viking777...... a quick update for you. :) Since re-installing Mint x64, and then copying over whatever stuff i need from my old /home (as described above) i've only had 1 Nautilus crash, and that was when every USB port in the machine had something plugged in, and i'd also been doing a TON of ...

Re: usb devices only mounted or recognized during startup

You don't have to use a live CD, but you can't change or add a label to a mounted partition (at least not from gparted, it may be possible from the command line with 'e2label', I can't quite remember) and a live CD is the only way to ensure that all partitions are unmounted which is why I suggested...

Re: usb devices only mounted or recognized during startup

(I REALLY dislike UUID!!! ) Then don't use it. LOL!! Indeed, and in the past i've always changed my fstab to NOT use UUID's but to use the standard /dev/sda1 / type of thing. I have to confess that i'd never thought of, heard of, or used, Labels. DUH!! :D Open gparted from a live cd right click an ...

Re: usb devices only mounted or recognized during startup

I'm also having a similar problem here, on Mint 8 (64 bit) running on my laptop . If i plug one of my USB drives in (320gb) it's mounted & everything works OK, but then when i plug in my 8gb stick, Nautilus just crashes. From then on it's really hard to get USB sticks mounted. I have ntfs3g running ...

Re: Linux Mint 7 "Gloria" x64 released!

Gloria x64 is absolutely fantastic, and as always pretty much everything works great out of the box.... Nice one! :) Question: Is this the "Support" thread for the x64 version? I keep looking around the Mint forums, and can't find much on the x64 release at all (Apart from this thread). Are there no...

Re: What Filesystem!?

NTFS it is :D Thanks guys! You may want to install ntfs-config if you're using ntfs in Mint..... you don't need it, it just makes things a lot simpler. Have to also say that (as another poster pointed out) ext2ifs also works very well on XP, giving you the ability to read ext3 filesystems from with...

Re: Linux Mint 6 won't install to Grub sort of fixed

Thanks for all the help people, much appreciated. I finally got it sorted by changing my partition setup in the partition manager (Used a different partition as home) and then it all worked fine??? At least i think that's what i did, as i tried so many different things, and that was the last one & i...

Re: Linux Mint 6 won't install to Grub sort of fixed

I've spent all afternoon trying to get this one solved...... Very frustrating! I had Mint 5 on, working really well, been using it since release, so decided to install (Clean install) Mint 6...... But Grub just refuses to play at all...... so at the moment i have a completely borked system, which i'...

Re: Linux Mint 5 x64 released!

Sorry, but i've downloaded x64 edition and...i've found that the real instalation was ubuntu hardy. I think it's a temporal mistake. Isn'it? It could indeed be a temporal mistake, but i think it's more likely to be a good call while the problems with Intrepid Ibex get sorted out. Hardy works very w...

Re: Linux Mint 5 x64 released!

This may sound like a crazy question (?) but why is the 64 bit version of Mint, "AS QUICK AS" or "EVEN FASTER THAN" something like the XFCE 64 bit version of Sidux??? It's weird, but on this system (Core 2 Duo with 2gb DDR2) Mint 64 absolutely Flies!! It's faster than (Even using the standard Gnome)...

Re: Mint Crystal

Thanks for the reply Lantesh. I have already tried both the XFCE version & the Fluxbox version, and although they're great releases, they're still rather sluggish and heavier than i expected them to be, especially the Fluxbox edition. That's why i thought i'd have a go at it myself, by reducing the ...

Mint Crystal

I've downloaded & installed the latest Mint - Excellent, and works really well. However, this computer's an old P3 and while Gnome runs OK, it's nowhere near as fast as something like FVWM-Crystal (Or any other of the ????boxes). So i'm trying to slim it down by removing stuff that i either don't ne...

Just installing

Just installing the Fluxbox ed of Mint on a spare partition of my main machine. If it works anywhere near as good as it does from the CD, i must say that i'm really impressed!! Looks really good too, and although i'm at the moment using Daryna on this machine as well (As my Main OS) i may well switc...

Re: changing permissions

Isn't Krusader a KDE app though ? Well, it was developed as an KDE apt, but as with most KDE apts, it works fine also in Gnome. It works fine for sure, but i always thought that it wasn't a good idea (purely from a Dependency Loading point of view) to mix Gnome & KDE, and even GTK for that matter. ...

Re: Taskbar Locking up....

You have met a small bug that probably will remain. This happens when you change something in mintMenu or just open it but then the delay is and should be hardly noticeable Some people experience a longer delay and I (we) don't know why. There was an update to mintMenu the other day if my memory se...

Taskbar Locking up....

Does anyone else have this happen at all? It's fine for a while, and then i go to click on the start bar to access a particular program or what have you, and there's no response at all. All other features of the Taskbar are available (Open progs, Tomboy etc etc) just not the Main Menu. It always com...
