Re: Linux Mint says that my docx and Excel files does not exist

You can run it without problems. Even if you have to open the folder as root, at least you have access to the files. Did you reboot? I need to put some food in my belly and won't be available for about an hour. I really appreciate all what you have done for me to day! It is 47.000 files that you ha...

Re: Linux Mint says that my docx and Excel files does not exist

Hanne, try changing the last part of the fstab line from defaults,auto,uid=1000,gid=1000 0 2 TO defaults,noatime,utf8,umask=000,uid=1000,gid=1000 0 2 Larry, for some strange reason that made fra_windows disappear from the left side of the file manager/Nemo unless I log in as root. (Oh or maybe I wa...

Re: Linux Mint says that my docx and Excel files does not exist

The folder under /mnt must have an underscore between fra and windows (fra_windows) to match what I gave you for your fstab file. If you want to change the place to mount it, open /etc/fstab as Root and change the path(/mnt/fra_windows) to whatever you want, save the file, then go into file manager...

Re: Linux Mint says that my docx and Excel files does not exist

Yes, it matters. You could go into your file manager, click on File System in the left panel, then right click on the /mnt folder and select "Open as Root" (yours might say Open as Administrator). When the new window opens, right click on the fra_windows folder and select rename. You can then make ...

Re: Linux Mint says that my docx and Excel files does not exist

Unfortunately the drive is not visible nemo any more.

Does it matter that I changed "fra_windows to "Fra_windows" because that is what is is called all the other places or is this just the name of a drive?

Are you going to copy the files to your main drive or do you want to make this a permanent mount so you can see that drive every time you boot the machine?
I would like to have the drive permanently mounted because that drive is so large.

Re: Linux Mint says that my docx and Excel files does not exist

In BIOS, disable fast boot. Go back to Disks program and unmount the partition again then run the rest of the commands. I come to command #3 "sudo mount -t vfat -o defaults,noatime,utf8,umask=000,uid=1000,gid=1000 /dev/sdc1 /mnt/fra_windows" which returns the message: "The mountpoint does not exist...

Re: Linux Mint says that my docx and Excel files does not exist

OK Hanne, in the terminal, run the following commands umount /dev/sdc1 sudo mkdir /mnt/fra_windows sudo mount -t vfat -o defaults,noatime,utf8,umask=000,uid=1000,gid=1000 /dev/sdc1 /mnt/fra_windows sudo chown -R -v $USER:$USER /mnt/fra_windows See if you can get into the files in the folder /mnt/fr...

Re: Linux Mint says that my docx and Excel files does not exist

Are you dual booting with Windows? Do you have fast start-up disabled in your BIOS and in Windows power config? No there is no dual boot with Windows. I think my BIOS is pretty much standard as I have never done anything in there - I'm a little afraid of fiddling around in there. But I can check, i...

Re: Linux Mint says that my docx and Excel files does not exist

Are those what you were expecting to see? If so, go into your file manager and see if you can open any of the files. Yea I definately expect to see "Fra_windows", but I can not access the files as they are placed on the drive that is not mounted (the 1 TB HDD) When I try with nemo to open the drive...

Re: Linux Mint says that my docx and Excel files does not exist

I have been wondering one thing and that is that I can see nothing at all when I look in media/hanne ls -a. There should also be anothere drive and that drive works and is mounted. I don't know whether that is important.

Re: Linux Mint says that my docx and Excel files does not exist

See if you can see the files now. When I try with nemo it says that "there is no such file or file catalogue" (like the drive is unmounted). And additional: "Can not mount 1 TB HDD" When I look with Disks (GUI) it shows that it is mounted on /mnt/ (but no figures after this like there was before). ...

I have done so. There were no errors. Should I run any other commands as well?

Re: Linux Mint says that my docx and Excel files does not exist

Hanne, I forgot to have you do the following command in the terminal first: umount sdc1 then rerun the last command I gave you. Is that drive you are trying to mount formatted as VFAT or NTFS? That is okay Larry! I'm just so happy for all your kind assistance! The new command you have me returns in...

I am so happy to read, what you write!
