Re: Linux Mint 10 reviews & thoughts

I think sometimes it is just hit and miss. I first installed Mint on my laptop. I used Mint for a few months and before I realized it I never booted into WindowsXP. The laptop was given to me so I did a fresh install of XP and never installed programs or music, picture, stuff like that which would ...

Re: Gaming

My sister in law only uses her laptop to play a couple facebook games with her family. I installed mint onto it and she hasnt had any problems. I guess she would qualify as only using linux for gaming.

Re: Perfect way to get off microsoft.

There are good Linux apps, some of them work also on Windows and sometime even better than on Linux, but Dia and Planner are crap and not equal to Visio for instance. And Office is also far better than OO.o for real work... unfortunately. :( Personally I love open office. I even preferred it to win...

Re: Perfect way to get off microsoft.

I have considered the perfect way to get off Microsoft. Cut it cold turkey. just make the switch and just make it a no choice to operating systems......People will adjust if they had to do this. That is basically what I did. This is what I had to do. For a year I kept a dual Boot on my pc of mint a...

Re: Isadora vs. Julia

Mint 9 worked great for me. I switched to mint 10 when it came out and have experienced some audio problems. I recently switched from 10 to Mint Debian and love it. Between 9 and 10 I would recomend 9.

I don't plan on having it installed and I know there won't be enough room.
That's great to hear.

Re: How To: Completely remove PulseAudio & replace it with A

This guide is great. After doing this everything works great, except when i right click my panel and add to panel, there is no volume control listed. In fact the only way i have found to control sound levels is to install gnome alsa mixer, but it would be more convenient to get a volume control on t...

Re: Is Pulse Audio the worst trajedy in the history of Linux

I have even been trying to find a good distro that just doesn't incorporate it at all. Arch? How hard is arch to install and setup? I am not a total linux noob, but i'm not an expert yet. I looked at arch but got scared off by the huge install guide that they linked to. It sounds amazing though

Re: Is Pulse Audio the worst trajedy in the history of Linux

I mean, some people need it, which is why it should be in the repos, or even in the software center with special scripting instructions for fully changing over to PA if your need it.....but it just breaks too many peoples systems for it to be included by default on an operating system intended for ...

I agree with you guys. I would go as far as to say out of the all the distros i've tried mint feels the most like a "complete" OS from the first boot after installation.

Just wanna say thanks again.

I reformatted my computer with the newest ubuntu 10.04 a few days ago and had a terrible experience. Normally ubuntu is great for me. I switched to mint around the launch of mint 7 and havent tried ubuntu since then. This experience with ubuntu, while others really like it, was nothing but problems ...

Re: Kernel 2.6.30 is going to rock

I also recently upgraded to 2.6.30 to (hopefully) improve performance on my intel card. It definately gave me a huge improvement on my intel performance. I have also noticed the faster boot times.

Just wanted to say thanks to the devs.

Hey everyone. I'm new to linux mint and linux in general. Decided about a week ago i have had enough with windows after getting a new laptop that had vista preinstalled. To make a long story short, reverting it to XP ended up not being worth the time messing with drivers. I have tried linux a couple...
