The Bluetooth Blues

I have Linux Mint 18.2 installed on an MSI mobo/I3 computer. A keyboard, mouse, and USB Bluetooth transceiver dongle, all Logitech "Unified" Bluetooth, are installed and have been working perfectly for some time on this machine. These have always worked seamlessly, with no pairing issues or any of t...

Uncrackable Thumb Drive Encryption?

I have a thumb drive which contains quite a bit of information which I am required to keep confidential, but which I have to sometimes do partial downloads from, to computers I do not own. As an additional security measure, I keep the information encrypted on a USB thumb drive, which is always physi...

Re: Self-deleting malware?

Ah then, a couple of things maybe going on here. I did try to reduce the numbe rof open tabs, but I don't know what the actual Ram usage was.

Thanks.

Self-deleting malware?

Using Brave browser, (ASUS UX50V, 4GB Ram, 102 Gb HDD, Cinnamon 64-bit v. 3.4.3) after several sessions surfing the internet over a day or so, I noticed my computer progressively slowing down as use continued, and HDD activity light on more and more. This got progressively worse until the thing was ...

Disappearing, reappearing desktop icons.

I have newly-installed Mint 18.2 Cinnamon 64-bit, version 3.4.3, on an ASUS UX50V. All I wanted to do was turn off all features that auto-position desktop icons, so I can put icons where I want them, but this should-be-simple task appears to be impossible. Right clicking on the Desktop, opening the ...

Re: GIMP Free Select, Copy & Paste; can it be done?

Flemur

I can't get to where I can even make a new pattern selection. There is nothing to close out, nothing to hit carriage return for.

Re: GIMP Free Select, Copy & Paste; can it be done?

OK, I HAD tried a simple right click/copy /paste and it does not work with free select. You can do a "Fill with pattern" with free select, but you practically need a 4-year degree and and hour's time to navigate through the maze to find the place where you can select the pattern you need to use.. GI...

Re: GIMP Free Select, Copy & Paste; can it be done?

hmmm.. I intended to try that, and thought I had...

Maybe I neglected, in all the fiddling, to try a right click w/o going to the drop-down menu first, since the drop-down was what worked w/ Rect Sel.

Definitely will have look at clone.

Thanks for that!

Re: Mint 19.1 Tessa undelete

Thanks catweasel, gm10, Larry. I agree win7 is ephemeral and outdated, but I only use it for a few of apps that won't talk to Mint. I'll go to my grave completely ignorant of MS 8 &10. It'll be a happy day when I'm done with MS for good. Is there a shell that would enable me to run Win7 from a DVD d...

GIMP Free Select, Copy & Paste; can it be done?

I am using Mint 19.1 and the free Gimp that came with it to repair .png's and .jpeg's. I have had good luck doing simple patch-ups with the "Rectangle Select"; Rectangle Selecting over an area that needs repair, dragging the rectangle from it to an area that has the pattern I need, doing an Edit/Cop...

Mint 19.1 Tessa undelete

I am running Mint 19.1, "Tessa" (ASUS UX50v, Centrino proc, 4gB, RAM, 200gb hdd), in a dual boot machine with Vista, and need to do a complete reinstall as neither O.S. is really running right (obviously, I'll get rid if Vista all together, and use WIN7). I put all the items I need to back up in a s...

(SOLVED)Re: McWifi Misrouting

thanks for the very timely replies!

yes, that's all kind of what I was afraid of.

I was hoping the was a way to bypass the issue, as McD's doesn't seem to Care, and AT&T is impossible to deal with.

McWifi Misrouting

Running Mint TESSA, Cinnamon, (BRAVE browser, centrino processor, ASUS UX50V, 4GB) I can no longer log on to previously working McDonald's wifi. I get the standard yellow and white logon screen, but when I click on the yellow button, center-left of screen (which worked before), instead of the other ...

Re: deleted history/ no youtube videos

I should add that I'm using McDonald's wifi, and it can be a bit balky about allowing full functionality.
I tried signing in again, but it acts like I am still signed-in.

deleted history/ no youtube videos

I am running Mint, downloaded about 6 months ago, and Brave Browser. I just did a complete delete of most of the items in "History", everything in the list but a couple of items like passwords, "for all time", and now youtube videos won't play. I've deleted History exactly like this before, and not ...

Re: Taskbar Recovery

( apologies for the delayed response: this is literally my first post to this forum, and I just assumed I would get email notification of your reply; I did not.) The edition is "Tessa", which I believe has to be Cinnamon. I should also mention that I have this set up as a dual-boot machine with (ugh...

Taskbar Recovery

I turned off the taskbar (at least that is what it is called in Win7 ); the strip along the bottom of the screen, with the green Mint icon menu button on the far left, and the sound volume, WiFi, Time/Date etc icons on the right. A small window appeared as I was online, atop my browser, and I clicke...
