Re: system freezing

Update- So, some of my issues seem to be related to suspend/lock. But it looks like there are others. I finally encountered another screen freezing. I happened to restart Cinnamon, which normally processes just fine. This time, mid-restart the screen froze. I could still move the mouse around, but n...

Re: system freezing

Just for sh_ts and grins, make the following changes to determine if the lock is the problem vs the suspend. Lock when computer put to sleep: off Lock computer after screensaver starts: off Well, you may be on to something. With the screensaver set to not lock i've not been able to get the machine ...

Re: system freezing

That almost sound to me like the screen is blanked, but your keyboard and mouse aren't "waking" it. Maybe the keyboard and mouse are the ones not really waking back up as I've seen a few threads on that. The screen does always come back- it goes from a blank screen to showing my background. It's af...

What do your screensaver settings look like? They do interact with the power settings.
Nothing fancy- i'm using the default one that comes with Mint.
Delay before starting: 10 minutes
Lock when computer put to sleep: on
Lock computer after screensaver starts: on
Delay before locking: 1hr

Re: system freezing

Have you tried the "export AMD_DEBUG=nodma,nongg" fix? It may be related to the amd gpu WALKER_ERROR and MAPPING_ERROR. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=1886954#p1886954 I haven't tried it yet, but i did look through the thread. The original thread is on ArchLinux, and it sounds like th...

Re: system freezing

The next time it happens, don't enter your password if the login screen isn't properly displayed. Instead, enter a terminal with Ctrl-Alt-F1, log in, and then enter the command startx. I don't know if this'll work, but it'll be worth a try. Looking over the history of this post, here's some of the ...

Re: screen brightness on battery

Hmm... i think i found a solution. I added "acpi_backlight=vendor" to the grub parameters, and now it seems to remember the brightness level. It no longer changes the brightness when i switch from a/c to battery.

Re: system freezing

Must be sleep then. Based on what I've read, hibernation requires specific changes to enable it in the recent releases. Since it's a sleep issue, then a lot of those references don't apply since they're mostly for hibernation. I'll see what I can find on sleep related issues instead. (Edit) Is the ...

Re: Fix for USB scanner not working on LM20 that worked on LM19

@Fizz, could you, please, send me a content of /var/log/ipp-usb/* directory? Sure, it has two files. 04a9-178e-505AAC-Canon-MG5700-series.log main.log main.log is very short- just 3 lines. But the other is more than 3300 lines long, all since i tried to use my scanner starting on the 9th (first tim...

Re: Fix for USB scanner not working on LM20 that worked on LM19

I now notice that i can open simple-scan through the Mint Menu (just "simple-scan", no mention of "airscan:e0") and now it recognizes the device as "CANON Canon PIXMA MG5700 Series" just as it did before i posted about my issues. But now it is successfully scanning. Weird.

Re: Fix for USB scanner not working on LM20 that worked on LM19

device `airscan:e0: (USB) is a eSCL (USB)' eSCL network scanner This does not look right. I'd expect the device format to have the format: airscan:e0: DNS-SD_NAME_OF_DEVICE (USB) Have you adjusted the MG5720's Bonjour Name via its web interface? No, i didn't do anything with that. Did i miss someth...

Re: system freezing

Whew- that is a lot to parse through, but i will start. Thanks for the references.

My power management applet refers to it as "suspend". So i'm not sure if that counts as "sleep" or "hibernate". Or if it's yet another important distinction.

Re: Fix for USB scanner not working on LM20 that worked on LM19

I too am having an issue. I have a Canon MG5720 printer/scanner, which used to work fine under Mint 19. I am now on Mint 20 and having issues. The scanner works fine on my laptop, which is connecting to it via wi-fi. My desktop machine is connected via usb directly. When i start Document Scanner, it...
