Are you sure?
If somebody has access to your desktop, he/she can steal all your mail files.
Emails are stored on the server, i don't have anything local. So long as the password is not stored locally, then i don't see how someone could access emails or use the email client.

Re: evolution email?

But that should be the only time it needs to ask. I can't see why you'd want to type it in every time, sorry. It's an extra level of security. If someone is able to access my desktop then they immediately have access to my email as well. Whereas having an extra password when starting the applicatio...

Re: evolution email?

Poking around my own email client issues I've tried this one too. Evolution does ask for a password it just doesn't ask when you might expect it to! The first time you ask it to check the inbox for account you've set up, a window will pop up for you to put you password in. Be reassured by this. Yea...

evolution email?

Hi all- I have been experimenting with Evolution email as an alternative to Thunderbird. I like it, but there is one quirk i'm not sure i like. When you set up a mail account, it asks for your password. It then remembers it forever. Thunderbird 68 would always ask for my password when i started the ...

Re: foxclone issue

I hadn't thought of that, I'll remember for others with the same problems booting as you :) Was this a usb stick that you had installed mint to? Or were you booting your mint install usb and installing foxclone from the deb in it - which would only last until the next reboot? There is a way to add ...

Re: foxclone issue

Well, i've done my clone through the bootable Mint usb and then installing the .deb. All seems well. I think i must have done it that way in the past. I don't remember doing so, but i think it's the only way i could have. This has allowed me to update to Mint 20.1 without the worry of losing everyth...

Re: foxclone issue

You can do what sanmig suggested. That's the way I use foxclone for 'real'. All my PCs have a separate 2TB HDD for backup (it could just as easily be an external usb HDD or a stick - a stick would be slow). I've installed a separate copy of mint on the HDD and then installed foxclone in that from t...

Re: foxclone issue

V39 is dated May 2020 and is running with a 5.3 kernel, the later versions are 5.4. That's about the only significant difference I can think of that might affect boot. You can find it on foxclone.org. Let me know the outcome. There is no easy way to get to the GUI if it doesn't appear on boot. If i...

Re: foxclone issue

OK, i tried v40. No difference as far as getting into the gui. Again, i see the splash screen briefly, but then it disappears. I did realize i can enter "ubuntu" as the login name, with no password, and then i have a prompt. I tried to do a startx, but that gave an error that no screens we...

Re: foxclone issue

Do you have a switch in BIOS along the lines of enable CSM? If so enable it. googling your errors - it seems to be related to your AMD cpu. Can't replicate here as I'm all intel. If it was working before all I can suggest is goto foxclone.org and download the foxclone V40 iso (which is the previous...

Re: foxclone issue

There is no difference with the new (older) usb drive. This morning, on either usb, i'm not even seeing the green splash screen, just seems to go straight to the ubuntu login- maybe it's just going through the boot process too fast (?). Before i see the login, i see some errors. I'll post these in c...

Re: foxclone issue

Did you download the iso and try again? Check the md5sum on the iso. If none of that works, try switching the BIOS to legacy mode and see if it boots correctly. Yes, i did re-download and the md5sum checked out. It looks like i don't have the option of a legacy mode. I found the section, UEFI boot ...

I just tried that- it didn't work either. I can open up other terminals with alt-f1 through alt-f6, but can't find any combination to get me to the gui.

Re: foxclone issue

If it worked before, but not now, try downloading the iso again and burning to another stick if you have one. Do you know if you are booting legacy or UEFI and have you changed any of your BIOS settings since you last used it? It's the latest version from the website (since i'm using a new usb stic...

Re: Microphone Not Working

I am running a hp 2000. it is an old computer. how update the Kernel ? If it's an old computer, then the kernal is probably not the issue. But just in case, open a terminal and run the following command: inxi -Fxxz The kernel will be the first line. My guess is it will be 5.4. EDIT: MrEen beat me t...

foxclone issue

Hi all- I am attempting to do a clone of my drive using Foxclone. I had used it before, but something is different this time. When i boot it from the usb, i briefly see the green Foxclone splash screen, then it disappears and goes to a text login, asking for ubuntu login:. Using alt-f7 doesn't get m...

Re: Microphone Not Working

Do you happen to know what kernel you're running? If you're on a newer cpu, it might not be supported. I mention because i had issues with my microphone as well, but once i moved to the 5.8 kernel, the issue was fixed. Basically, the older kernel didn't fully support my newer cpu, which handled the ...

Re: thunderbird 78 differences

One thing I forgot to ask is you said you had to switch to 78 because you needed OAuth2 authentication, Tbird 68 has that, or is it something specific to Office 365 ? Yep i first tried doing it in v68. I don't understand the details by any means, but it has something to do with Office 365 moving to...

Re: thunderbird 78 differences

Sorry I can't of more help, maybe if/when Mint finally auto updates my 68 version I can. Yeah, and Mint gets theirs through Ubuntu, which i've read is in the works, but not sure what the timing is. But I appreciate your efforts in the meanwhile- reduces the odds that i've missed something. -Fizz
