All you have to do is download the screenfetch-dev file, make it executable, and run it in a terminal.

Re: Conky: Embed web page?
Anyone know if it is possible to embed a web page on your desktop using Conky? I have a security camera for my home and it has a web page to view. It would be nice to be able to embed the camera screen on my desktop. I'm pretty sure that would require conky be capable of processing HTML, which it i...

Re: What could replace Windows Home Server?
Thank you both very much for your help! 900i : SME Server seems to have all the functionality I need, so I'll look into it. They really have documented things well so even I should be able to try it. Thank you for sharing this! KittyKatt : I used Arch Linux for a short while a few years ago. I reca...

Re: Host or domain name not found
Wow, lot of information to go over there. I wanted to clarify a couple of points. 1) You're getting errors when the windows mail server is the sender and the Linux server is the recipient? Or vice versa? I didn't quite understand that part. 2) When you're on your home network, is the server that is ...

Re: What could replace Windows Home Server?
All of my machines run Arch Linux, even my server. Desktop and laptop run on testing repositories and the server runs on stable stuff and gets updated every once in a blue moon. :) Ubuntu Server is a very widely used one. I've seen a lot of CentOS on servers before, as well as Red Hat-related Linux ...

Re: /etc/bash.bashrc problem
Vincent, on further reflection I _think_ that ~/.bashrc is sourcing /etc/bash.bashrc which may account for the problem. I pasted both the original ~/.bashrc and /etc/bash.bashrc into pastebin separately. Hope you are able to see the files. Larrylba As posted before, when you submit something to pas...

Re: Linux Torvalds may be heading toward Mint or Cinnamon!
system-config-printer installs printers in your own user account if you aren't root - unless you make a printer available to all users which requires root access. But Gnome 3's printer configuration tool requires you to be root. Anyway, the old system-config-printer which Gnome 2 distros used is st...

Re: Linux Torvalds may be heading toward Mint or Cinnamon!
Besides the desktop background one, all of those actions require access to root-only writable files. Your kidding right? (I hope).... root acces for changing standard fonts???? Desktop > right click > Change Background and then select the tab Fonts.... no root acces required. They change certain GL...

Re: Linux Torvalds may be heading toward Mint or Cinnamon!
The only time i want to be asked for my root password is when i install a program or make (crucial/critical) changes in my settings. And also when i perform a sudo command in the terminal. That are the moments you can bug me asking my root password. Root password for adding a printer??? Ridiculous!...

Re: gedit annoyance
I used to get this error sometimes when I used gedit. I don't remember if I fixed it or not (this was a couple of years back), but I'll see if I can find out what I did, if anything.

Re: SolusOS RC1
We will indeed be sticking to the GNOME2 experience and most likely to a GNOME2 codebase (ie forking it to keep it up to modern standards). :) Should we expect a second MATE? I, personally, am expecting at least a couple more GNOME2 forks to turn up due to it being basically thrown out the ...

Re: SolusOS RC1
So, for those wanting the Gnome 2 experience, why not try out SolusOS? It's using Debian Stable for a base, a custom built 3.0.0-pae kernel with BFS patch and preemption model enforced by default. But... the next stable release won't be using Gnome 2 base, and I guess you are going to update your O...
