Re: Transparent Menu & Panel

Thank You Smurphos. Your a star.
I actually edited the theme directly in /usr/share/themes, & set the menu to 0.80 & the panel to 0.50, following your instructions. IMO it now looks way better than the solid colour.
Thanks again. :D

Transparent Menu & Panel

Using up to date 19.1 Cinnamon with Mint Y dark theme.
Does anyone know how to add Transparency to the Menu & Panel without having to change themes?

Re: Mint 19 Cinnamon what's the fastest way to copy files?

Can we specify the block size in grsync? don't think you can. You might be able to using the command line. you'll have to google that. As it is, on my system 100 GB takes about 90 mins to copy to my external hard drive. So your 700 GB should take approx 10 hours. Though that is dependant on your ha...

Re: Ghost icons on taskbar? (Mate19)

This was an issue I used to have back in the days of Gnome 2. So it's no surprise it keeps popping up in Mate. I never have found a fix. Only that by either keeping tray icons to a minimum, or by delaying certain startup apps, keeps the issue at bay.

Re: problem of burning CD with Brasero

The resolution to getting Brasero to work on Mint 19, is as follows:

Code: Select all

sudo apt install lame wodim cdrdao growisofs
then:

Code: Select all

cd /usr/bin

Code: Select all

sudo chmod -v 4711 cdrdao && sudo chmod -v 4711 wodim && sudo chmod -v 0755 growisofs
Brasero should now work properly.

Re: Mint 19 Cinnamon what's the fastest way to copy files?

It's not just about speed it's about accuracy as well.
Personally for that amount of data, I would use rsync or the gui grsync.
As a matter of interest what size in GBs does your 1000 movies add up to?

Mate 19 - System Sounds

Anyone managed to get system sounds working? By that I mean button sounds, opening/closing apps, menu button etc..
They work by default in Ubuntu Mate, but I'm struggling in Mint. Any ideas?

Re: Windows stutter when being dragged

Thanks for your reply johnbonda. I don't think this can be a feature. It affects not only dragging windows, but windows opening & closing and any effect. It is purely Cinnamon specific & has been the same since day 1 of Cinnamon. Turning off all the effects helps, but only really masks the problem. ...

Re: XFCE desktop has altered appearance

Sounds to me like some file has been lost or deleted in your .config folder.
Can't you simply go to system settings & put things back how you want them? Or does it keep reverting back on reboot?

Re: Timeshift Question

Thanks for all your replies. In this case then I might backup my sda2 partition, which Mint is on, with fsarchiver, which I'm familiar with & know works, then restore Mint with Timeshift, to see how it goes, knowing I can restore with fsarchiver if things screw up. Not sure when I'll get round to do...

Re: Mint-y theme and icons

That's one of the reasons I suggested the Vibrancy theme. It's very similar to Mint-Y, in fact I think Mint-Y is based on it to a degree. The Toolbar Icons render perfectly, & it's available in many different colours.

Timeshift Question

I have just ran Timeshift & saved to an external drive. All went well. I excluded a partition which I call /storage which is mounted at boot, & basically contains all my Data, Music, Docs, Downloads etc..., about 120 Gigs worth (which I Backup separately). My concern is this. If ever need to use Tim...

Re: Mint-y theme and icons

This issue has bugged me since the release of Mint 18 xfce, as I prefer the more modern looking Mint-Y theme. My solution was to use Mint-Y as the style, then to install the Vibrancy Icon theme using this ppa: http://www.ravefinity.com/p/vibrancy-colors-gtk-icon-theme.html Then set the icons to Vibr...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

Thought I'd chime in here, with my opinion. I have been using KDE Neon for the last 12 months, & must say for me it is KDE done properly. No bloat. Fast, & rock solid stable. You only need to install the apps you need, & don't have the menus cluttered with things you'll never use. My only concern is...

Hi Briand18.
This is a known common issue on Cinnamon with integrated Intel Graphics.

Re: KDE5 is still disaster

I find it interesting how peoples perception of Plasma 5 varies so considerably. Last October I installed KDE Neon LTS as a dual boot with XFCE, & I have to say it has ran flawlessly ever since. In fact I would go as far as to say that in my 10 years using Linux, it is the most reliable, stable dist...

Re: Diagonal screen tearing

With integrated Intel Graphics the solution for system wide screen tearing is the following. In a terminal type: gksudo xed /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf in the empty file that opens, copy & paste the following: Section "Device" Identifier "Intel Graphics" Driver "intel" Option "TearFree"...

Re: CD ripping speed

Not sure why the difference in speed, but remember that when it comes to CDs/DVDs, it's usually the case that the slower the rip, the more accurate the rip. That's why most people recommend ripping at the lowest speed possible. If you use a program called EAC on Windows which is the most popular, yo...

@Termy.
Thanks for sharing your compton.conf configuration. Using it now on my system with intel integrated graphics & it Renders wonderfully.
Just tweaked the fade-delta down from 8 to 6 & added a bit more opacity to the frame & menu.
Thanks again.
