Re: VLC now very slow to open

It's the same for me. It's probably down to the fact that you're using a QT5 app on Gnome.
Try opening the QT5 settings app. If that's as slow to open, then, that's your problem.

Re: LMDE 5 Beta Testing

Well it can't have been aimed at me, because I don't even use LMDE. I was just sharing a link showing its current status.

Re: LM 19.3 and Cinnamon 5 ?

I would have though that if it was relatively straightforward, then the Mint devs would have pushed it through the usual update Channels. It might be worth thinking of installing 20.2, if you want the latest Cinnamon.

Re: Desktop Background slow to appear

Mines the same, not quite as bad, maybe 5s.
I think that this may have something to do with Mint using a customized login manager.
I know that it doesn't happen on Xubuntu though.

Re: Zoom Issues

Thanks wallyUSA. It doesn't look like it's a solvable problem. As I suspected it's an issue at Zoom's end. As is normally the case not as much effort goes into testing the Linux version as it does the Windows version. Hence the glitches. I'll keep checking the Zoom updates to see if the issue gets r...

update..
It looks like I'm not alone with the Audio issue. It appears to be a Zoom issue on Linux.

Re: Zoom audio: I can talk and be heard, but I can't hear anything

@dw861... So glad I found this, this has been driving me mad for Months. Only this morning, all was working fine, then went into a breakout room & sound disappears, I can be heard but can't hear anything. I did suspect it was a Zoom linux glitch. One thing that worked for me though was to have t...

Re: Zoom Issues

Hi. I've actually jumped from the 5.4.xx kernel to 5.8 in the hope that would resolve my problems, unfortunately not. Hard Drive is fine although 10 years old, though an upgrade could be in order. As I said though the issues only appear in Linux not on Windows. I posted this in the LMDE forum, to se...

Re: Zoom Issues

You are correct, my desktop is about 10 years old, however Zoom runs perfectly well on Windows 10 on the same computer, even screen sharing HD video without an issue. Here are my specs: System: Host: xfce Kernel: 5.8.0-43-generic x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: Xfce 4.14.2 Distro: Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS (Focal...

Sorrry. It's a HP Pavilion G5370UK Desktop. i3.550 Dual core processor with integrated HD Graphics, i915 driver using modesetting.
Zoom was installed as a deb package from the Zoom website.
Hope this helps.

Zoom Issues

Hi. I'm in a situation were because of Covid, I'm forced to use Zoom on a regular basis. I've been using Ubuntu & derivatives including Mint. 2 problems keep reoccurring. 1. For no seeming reason, Video freezes & a few seconds later I crash out of the meeting, totally at random. 2. Audio jus...

Glad You're sorted.
That's one reason why I always do a fresh install rather than an upgrade. Saves all the little glitches.

Redshift does come as part of the Mint stock install. So you could boot into the live usb/dvd, & see if it works there.

Re: redshift failure in 20.0 xfce

"Malformed Argument" Seems to indicate that you dont have the launch command correct. Try copying & pasting my command & see if you get the same result. redshift-gtk -l 53.7:0.41 . Any items in your accessory menu that you have created are found in you Home folder, in your .local/s...

Re: redshift failure in 20.0 xfce

Not sure what you mean by "close out button". You do need to click the "save launcher" button though after you have edited the command, in menulibre. It's in the top bar, second from the left.

Re: redshift failure in 20.0 xfce

Redshift seems to be working OK for me. What I do is edit the application using menulibre. I change the command option from "redshift-gtk" to "redshift-gtk -l 53.7:0.41" then save the launcher. Try that, using your own coordinates obviously, & see if that helps.

Re: CPU usage during Zoom is way (way!) higher than in Windows. Why?

No, It's not a problem on your side. I think it's a problem on the Zoom packaging side. I have the same issue. Using Mint 20 xfce, on a normal Zoom meeting on my Intel i3 cpu, I use between 20-25% cpu. On Windows 10 it's about 10-15%. However the real hit comes when you try screen sharing a video. O...

Re: Netgear A6210 USB Wireless Adapter Only Works Intermittenly

This may or may not be relevant to your issue, but I've been having similar networking issues recently that have been driving me mad.
Out of desperation I went back to the 4.15.0-96 Kernel and haven't had a problem since.
