Re: Boot issues with Mint 19.3 XFCE

karlchen, Thank you for the explanation of how to recover from the initial problem I experienced. Going to print it and keep it handy :D The handling of boot order in this bios isn't the greatest. I have two SSDs, installed, one with Mint XFCE and one with MX XFCE. I had hoped to be able to use the ...

Boot issues with Mint 19.3 XFCE

I've just installed Mint 19.3 XFCE 64 bit on the hardware in my tag line. Its the first time trying XFCE on Mint - I usually install Mint Cinnamon, but I thought I'd give it a try because I like it on MX. The install went smoothly (from a DVD due to the legacy AMI BIOS). I configured it to my liking...

Portable Mint

I recently installed Mint 19.2 Cinnamon on an old AMD Athlon II X2 desktop running a Radeon GPU and an SSD. I decided to move the SSD into a laptop (Lenovo i5/8Gb/Nvidia 940MX). I expected to have to reinstall the OS for the new hardware; I've moved disks on windows systems and the old install was a...

[SOLVED] Etcher, Appimage and Repositories

I'm not sure where to post this so I've avoided the mainstream forums. Today I tried to install balenaetcher from the (Mint 19.2 Cinnamon 64 bit) repository. I used Software manager, Synaptic and apt but I couldn't find it. I assume that it isn't in the default repositories. I've "installed" it usin...

Re: [SOLVED] HP System Tray icon

Thanks to blueocean and smurphos for their help! The delay added in the autostart file works perfectly.
Thank you both!

Re: HP System Tray icon

Hi blueocean, Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't have the printers applet enabled so it took me a while to figure out where that setting was. The setting you have shown is enabled by default on my setup and adding the panel applet and rebooting doesn't seem to help. Its a minor irritation, but I wo...

[SOLVED] HP System Tray icon

I am running Mint 19.2 Cinnamon 64 bit with an HP Laserjet M251nw network printer. I have installed HPLIP 3.19.8 as the version in the repository (3.17.x) wasn't able to find my network attached printer. 3.19.8 works just fine. When I start HP Device Manager I can see in the Configure/Preferences/Sy...

SSD configuration after install

I've installed Mint 19.2 multiple times recently on HDD and SSD for various reasons unconnected with Mint or it's excellent quality. Following installation, browsing the Forums I saw a link which referred to optimising an SSD to prolong it's life. As someone who has recently added an SSD to my agein...

Re: Lenovo Laptop BIOS

On my Lenovo 510 there is a small hole between the headphone jack and the SD card slot.

Inserting a paperclip causes it to start in BIOS mode.

Stupidest thing ever, but that's how it works. :?

[SOLVED] Memory Issue

Decided to take a chance and added a further 8 Gb of memory in the second bank with the same timings and it works perfectly. Thanks for the advice. I'm caching Firefox to Ram now to preserve my somewhat older (in technology terms) SSD after following some advice on the Easy Linux Tips Project blog. :D

Re: Lenovo Laptop

I have a Lenovo Ideapad 510 with 8Gb ram and an Nvidia GPU.
I've installed Mint 19.2 and Manjaro on it without problems.
Manjaro uses bumblebee which I find slows graphics performance.
Mint is better on my laptop.

Re: Memory Issue

I didn't check the timings of the new RAM; The Corsair stuff shows 9-9-9-24 which I assume are the timings. I'll have to shut the PC down and pull the ram to check - thanks for the tip, I hadn't thought that timings in different banks would be an issue. PC is running fine now that I pulled out the C...

[SOLVED] Memory Issue

I recently revived an old PC running an Athlon II X2 260 on a ASUS E5248_M4A77T motherboard with 4Gb of Corsair 1333Mhz DDR3 memory (2 x 2Gb - TW3X4G1333C9D). I installed Mint 19.2 Cinnamon and added an additional 8GB of Non ECC ram (from Micron) - also DDR3 1333 for a total of 12Gb. It seemed to ru...

Re: Bluetooth Keyboard recommendation

Hi muffybean, I use Logitech bluetooth Kbd/Mouse combinations, specifically a K270 kbd and M185 mouse. I've plugged them in to Mint 18.3/19.0/19.1/19.2, Raspbian, Windows 10, Windows 7, Manjaro Linux and it has always worked flawlessly. The downside from your point of view is that the kbd may be too...

Dark Themes

I installed Dark Reader on Firefox 70.0 and it gave a pleasing dark background to align with my preferred dark theme. The downside was the garish colors both in fonts and backgrounds when browsing in Firefox. I''m running Mint19.2 Cinnamon. Is there a sensible dark theme available for Firefox. I'm q...
