Re: New System build and NVMe PCIe M.2 Support

Can vouch for corsair NVMe drives, I have two and they are working great. In fact, I would reccommend you just use NVMe for day to day usage, and use an external SSD or HDD as backup, M.2 is much faster.

Re: having trouble with Driver Manager

I love Mint and I can't even tell you how much I respect all the work that has been done, but it really is a bug. At least, I had this happen to me when I had never installed any driver manually. I have had it happen when I didn't add the spotify repo key, and had it happen when I tried out the Nouv...

Re: having trouble with Driver Manager

If you can log in, you might wanna just restore from timeshift. You can use timeshift from terminal but I've never done it and don't know the commands.

Re: having trouble with Driver Manager

When you ran ubuntu-drivers autoinstall, did it all go okay? No idea why it would do that, I have removed and reinstalled the nvidia drivers more than a couple of times (had some issues with it including the greyed out bug you experienced) and that has never happened to me. Try logging in (Ctrl + Al...

Re: having trouble with Driver Manager

If your have Nvidia card:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get purge nvidia*
sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall
I also had the greyed out bug and this solved it for me

*edit* Sorry I don't know the commands for AMD drivers but you could probs just google how to remove them, and ubuntu-drivers autoinstall should work anyway

Re: having trouble with DRIVER MANAGER

When I had this issue it was because I hadn't added the spotify repository key. When driver manager started, it would attempt to load from that repo, fail, and tell me to check the internet connection. What sources can you see when you open up "Software Sources"?

Re: having trouble with DRIVER MANAGER

Do you have Spotify installed? I had an issue which might be the same as this, and fixed it.

Re: Nvidia drivers wont work

Have you tried

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get purge nvidia*
sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall
Because I recently had issues with driver manager and these commands sorted it all out.

*edit Forgot to add, don't forget to restart

I solved my issue with stutter on Mint 19.2 in a weird way

So I've been having this issue with stuttering, doesn't matter what I'm doing, and It's been there since I installed I think. Typing, listening, watching, browsing, every two seconds roughly I would experience stutter for a split second. It's honestly not a lot, but I got annoyed at it and decided t...

Re: What do you like about mint?

The fact that with this operating system I can learn at my own pace, plus I can make it look as good as I want. More generally, the fact that I have access to multiple sources of thousands of pieces of software to do pretty much anything, which are all more or less guaranteed to be free of malware a...

Re: Questions about my dual boot setup and ESP

Yeah it works great now and I can restore from snapshots using Timeshift. You're right, I don't need to make an ESP for Mint, I can just install the bootloader to the Windows one. I still don't understand how it works but I'm one step closer I guess. Oh, and no more 40GB swap partition haha  Th...

Re: Questions about my dual boot setup and ESP

what you have right now might be a split bootloader That actually makes sense, because my windows ESP is mounted to /boot/efi, but theres a folder called "GRUB" in /boot, next to /boot/efi. Also, there are loads of other files like vmlinuz-4.15.0-58-generic in /boot. Thanks so much for the response...

Re: Questions about my dual boot setup and ESP

Okay that is interesting, well in my experience it is always best to keep it simple where possible! The only issue is that if I install Mint to the Windows ESP, am I setting myself up for disaster when Windows decides to update every 2 weeks? So it sounds like that is the setup I already have, but o...

*Solved* Questions about my dual boot setup and ESP

Soo my knowledge on this leaves a lot to be desired, I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. My understanding is that the ESP is a partition in which all the bootloaders for all the OS's on a system reside. I run a dual boot setup with Mint (obvs :D ) and Windows on separate driv...

Re: Welcome Ladies - post here :)

Hey Ladies! Decided to take the plunge a couple of weeks ago and build my own PC, It's exciting but also scary aha. I heard about Linux a while ago but my dad recommended it when I told him I was building a PC, he said it's much more stable. So far, no crashes (I get a crash every couple of weeks at...
