Re: setting the screen saver
Go to Menu > Preferences > Screensaver and set your preferences there. You can also try Menu > Preferences > Power Management and set preferences there as well. I had issues with this and changing the preferences in both Screensaver and Power Management didn't help. It still went to screensaver afte...

Re: [Solved, Kinda] Software Manager Refuses To Start
Just as an aside, but not off-topic: I recently installed Mint 16 MATE on a friend's laptop. She installed some fonts, insisting that she wanted the fonts to be the same as she had used previously on her Windows system. I left her to it. Two days later, I get a call for help. Synaptic, Software Mana...

Re: Disabling touchpad tap to click
Don't know what desktop you're running, but in MATE go to Menu > Preferences > Mouse > Touchpad. From there you can choose to disable the touchpad while typing.
Hope this helps.

Re: google chrome problems
I, too, have had issues with Chrome, albeit on Mint 13 Mate edition. Facebook not working properly, various other web pages not responding properly etc., but I solved this by using the Chromium browser instead. The only issue there was that it kept insisting that the flash plug-in was out of date. T...

Re: opensource ATI drivers, fans, screen brightness and ...
I struggled with Cinnamon and Gnome 3 on my DV6 for ages and never found a suitable solution. So I installed Mint 13 with Mate, added the Fglrx driver available in Synaptic, added the Jupiter Applet and everything's been fine. Machine idles at 58c, the fan's behaving itself and video's not a problem...

Re: Linux Mint 13 "Maya" RC released!
Installed Mint 13 RC Mate edition last night on my HP Pavilion DV6. No real issues except after installing the latest AMD Catalyst drivers from the website, I lost my display. So I reinstalled and used the Fglrx package available in Synaptic and everything's fine now. Added Jupiter and my machine id...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments
I'm still using Gnome 2.3x on my Ubuntu 10.04 install. I won't be installing 12.04 as I don't like Unity so I'm waiting for Maya. I tried Cinnamon on Mint 12 and was very taken with it. I'm pretty sure it will mature nicely over the coming year and so I voted for Cinnamon.

Yes, it will overwrite the Windows bootloader and use GRUB instead.
As far as I can remember, to fix the Windows bootloader, you need to insert your Windows disc, boot it, choose Repair your computer, choose your installation, choose Command Prompt and then type

Re: install ATI driver 11-11 failed
You can do it by going to the file in the file browser, right clicking it, go to properties, then go to the permissions tab, and make it executable. Close the properties tab and then double click the file to run it.
Be sure to remove any previously installed ATI driver first, though.

Re: To Any One Who is Having ATI issue Here is Some Help
+surjagain Try the steps for removing the ATI driver as outlined by tbruff13 above or on this web page: http://www.upubuntu.com/2011/11/how-to-install-amd-catalyst-1111.html You shouldn't need to re-install the whole OS just to remove a driver. Hope that helps? Ok i tried it and it failed miserably...

Re: eee pc 701 and LM 11
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 on my 701 which is still fairly slow to boot, but at least it fits on the 4Gb drive. May I ask you your boot time ? From hitting the power button to the Gnome desktop, including log-in, 55 seconds. As I ony use it for net access, I removed Openoffice and other non-essential a...

Don't forget to run sudo apt-get clean and sudo apt-get autoclean Then, in Synaptic > Setings > Preferences > Files and tick the Delete Downloaded Packages After Installation Ubuntu Tweak has some easy to use tools for cleaning up unwanted and orphaned packages. You could also try installing and run...

Re: Cannot install adobeair .bin file
I've now installed Adobe Air using this method on three installs, Jolicloud, Mint and Eeebuntu without fail. The install was also successful using both the BBC iPlayer and Tweetdeck links.
I'm afraid I cannot be of any further assistance. Good luck.

Re: I got an old laptop
There isn't much difference between the memory usage of Gnome and XFCE and I would imagine, as lagagnon said, it will be quite sluggish once you start using it properly. Fluxbox should perform well. It's a shame there isn't a KDE 3.5 version as that would work quite well, too. Mepis 8.0.10 is nice a...

Restricted account? I'm not entirely sure what that means, but I've always been under the impression that it meant you can't run as super user. So, no sudo password=no install. Is that the case?
