Re: Issues trying to install LM alongside Win for dual boot

Thanks both! Turns out I had to switch it the other way around, ie from Discrete to Switchable graphics -- it helped in that the screen didn't turn into gibberish anymore, but it would end up in errors and wouldn't load X (no photo as yet) or sound the startup chime. Since my laptop goes back for re...

Re: Issues trying to install LM alongside Win for dual boot

Nobody? :(

One idea that came to my mind -- since it looks very much like botched graphics, I'll try to change it from Switchable to Discrete and run again.

Re: Optimal dual boot partioning for a particular use case

Well, it's not going very smoothly, I kinda hit a wall -- I started a separate thread on the boot and installation board: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=340476

Issues trying to install LM alongside Win for dual boot

Hi all, I hope someone will be able to halp me. I'm trying to install Mint for dual boot alongside my Win10 Home on my Lenovo Legion 5. In Windows: I disabled Fast Startup. In BIOS: 1. I disabled Secure Boot. 2. I disabled the 'OS optimisation' something (can't remember the option name verbatim... O...

Re: Optimal dual boot partioning for a particular use case

Thank you for all the extensive info. I'll definitely think about it and make adjustments as I go, once I see how I use this new machine (arrives today, yay!) in practice. If I mainly use Windows on it and only log in to Mint once in a blue moon, I won't be customising it too much. If most of my act...

Thanks!

With option 1 confirmed, I don't think I'll be going for option 2 then.

Optimal dual boot partioning for a particular use case

Hi all, I went full Mint on two machines over a year ago and I still ask newbie questions. :D I'm getting a new machine tomorrow and this time I'll have to keep Windows -- for work and, to kill two birds with one stone, for gaming. So I've decided I'll set it up for dual boot. The SSD is 512GB, I'm ...

How do I change the selection/highlight colour?

For example in Nemo? The threads on the subject seem outdated -- someone going by Satya apparently created a tool to do that but his PPA repository is not supported by bionic. The great most of the advice leads to editing the relevant dconf key -- so I installed Dconf Editor and did that but to no e...

Re: Anyone else having issues Kernel 5.3.0-53.109?

I hope that a future Linux Kernel 5.4, when available for dummies like me through Update Manager, will definitely resolve this issue. It is available through UM, but you need to install it first before it gets auto-updated. UM: View > Linux Kernels > (Continue) > 5.4 > choose version > Install.

Re: Anyone else having issues Kernel 5.3.0-53.109?

Same here, i have a Lenovo Ryzen 5, impossible to shutdown or reboot. I made a rollback to 5.3.0-51 now works great! Same, although my description would be 'shuts down but doesn't power off', but I'm sure we're talking the same thing. Also Lenovo with Ryzen/AMD, and a rollback to 51 helped. Anythin...

Re: [SOLVED] The Wine conundrum

FWIW, I remember I had to re-install pulseaudio-module-bluetooth after the library downgrade, as my Bluetooth stopped working. You can always make a Timeshift backup so you have a restore point when something goes wrong. A live USB, too, if you need that safety net.

Tried again. Purged wine-devel-amd64 and wine-devel-i386. Removed the additional repository and key. Tried to purge add-achitecture-32bit, but it couldn't be found. Re: The Wine conundrum

Irrelevant, you've got third party wine repositories added and third-party wine packages added, so of course your install is a mess. A "clean" Linux Mint install does not have those problems. So remove those foreign repositories and packages first. I ran that install after removing the tw...

Re: The Wine conundrum

Except it isn't working for me. And not only for me, apparently, if alternative instructions with a workaround for the missing dependencies wall are published. There are no missing dependencies for the version distributed with Linux Mint, so nah. Nah what? Did you see the output of apt install wine...

Re: The Wine conundrum

Hello, rodia77. Tries 1+2 only show that the executable file wine cannot be found following the search path $PATH , no more, no less. This does not prove that Wine has not been installed. Invalid conclusion. Try 3 gives the correct result: dpkg -l "*wine*" | grep ii ii wine-devel-amd64 5....

Re: I'm mad as heck and I'm not going to

Me, from the very beginning using this, I've only used manual snapshots. And I don't even do it every time, but sometimes I make a snapshot before I take a bunch of upgrades, or maybe I'm going to install some rogue ppa and get freaky, I'll want that safety net. Same here. So, I think you're good p...
