Yes, they can, at least that is how it is in the norwegian one.

Personally I think automatic translation should be avoided, because it may result in a crappy looking article :P

If the article does not look professional enough, no one will think the distribution is any better.

Now I have spent some hours creating my first Wikipedia-article ever. I created the Linux Mint-article for the norwegian Wikipedia. And I think it became nice and tidy. I think it is excellent that you wrote it, and it has very many good points. But a little effort to get some citations would make the effort complete.
